I am thinking early morning of Sat 23rd? is that too late?

OP posts:
Toomanysquishmallows · 18/12/2023 15:27

I’m wondering about this as well , maybe Thursday?

MugsAplentyForMe · 18/12/2023 15:28

Mines being delivered Friday

TheFlis · 18/12/2023 15:29

We have a Tesco delivery coming Thursday night and then are collecting the main meat from the butcher on Saturday. There is a great grocer and a couple of small supermarkets within walking distance for any missing items or last minute additions.

Mrsjayy · 18/12/2023 15:30

we have a click and collect Friday and we are going to go Saturday.

LifeonMarsnotVenus · 18/12/2023 15:30

Shops are open till late ish on Sunday so that's when I'll be popping out and looking for the reduced cheap bargains.

I'm not doing a BIG food shop though as it's just the 3 of us and we don't do a traditional turkey dinner and pudding.

CactusPat · 18/12/2023 15:31

Thursday would be ideal for me but I’m undecided as I’m not sure if the veg will keep (which is wildly irrational as I’m sure that usually my carrots don’t rot in three days 😬)

purplecorkheart · 18/12/2023 15:32

I have a delivery of store cupboard and freezer stuff tomorrow. Picking up my meat from butcher on Sat morning early and will probably get the last bits and bobs then but plain to get bread/milk etc on Friday. We tend not to buy in a huge amount of extra stuff for Christmas so shopping is not too stressful.

lilmishap · 18/12/2023 15:33

Xmas eve when I get paid.
This is without a doubt the most stressful Christmas I've ever had, last month the kitchen tap flooded the kitchen and took out the cooker and ruined the flooring. Over a grand in replacing everything including the floors in kitchen and hallway. Insurance isn't going to pay out in time.
It's really made me reassess how important we all think this one bloody day is.

caringcarer · 18/12/2023 15:33

I've wondered about this too. I know supermarkets will be closed on the Sunday this year. Saturday will be chaotic. I thought maybe the Friday. I'm going to my youngest DS's for Xmas and I've already bought a frozen turkey crown and a beef for Xmas day also streaky bacon to go on the turkey. I'll need to go shopping with my son but I'm going to see if he is available for Friday after he finishes work.

Why will the shops be closed Sunday?

HeddaGarbled · 18/12/2023 15:35

I’m doing first thing on Friday because we’re visiting family on Saturday. But it’s really only veg and stuff like cream that needs to be fresh. Store cupboard and frozen stuff is already in and the meat’s on order from the butcher.

dh has was having a veg crisis yesterday I mean carrots and Brussels keep for days but clearly they turn to dust over Christmas 😂

LifeonMarsnotVenus · 18/12/2023 15:36

Our shops are definitely open on Sunday here in Ireland. I know Aldi is open until 7pm.

Stress101 · 18/12/2023 15:37

Click and collect at 9am.on the 23rd.

ChainBastard · 18/12/2023 15:38

Being delivered Saturday.
I do the same EVERY year though, the shops start sending their emails about booking Xmas slots in November. I think to myself "no need to rush, I'm not hosting" (I never do, my house isn't big enough and I hate cooking). It then gets to a couple of weeks into December and I realise that while I don't need extra food to feed guests, I do actually still need my normal week's shop, so have to go looking for somewhere that still has slots!
Morrisons came through this year, thankfully.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 18/12/2023 15:40

I feel like I might get my arse handed to me but what’s wrong with frozen veg? 👀

I don’t host over Christmas or ever in fact so it’ll be frozen everything for us. Delivery coming in next hour with most bits but I need to go Aldi tomorrow and Iceland delivery coming tomorrow morning too.

CactusPat · 18/12/2023 15:43

And also knowing that if I go Friday morning rather than Thursday evening, it will be exactly the same veg at Tesco anyway 😂 (which will also turn to dust because I should really be buying it on Saturday of course…)

Where are you? Shops are open with normal Sunday hours where I am.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 18/12/2023 15:49

Friday afternoon. My school breaks up qt lunch time and I'll go on the way home.

Oceancreature · 18/12/2023 15:51

Click and collect on Friday morning here.

ohtowinthelottery · 18/12/2023 16:00

I'll do my usual weekly food shop on Thursday morning then I'll go to the market for veg, cheese and smoked salmon. Beef and ham already in the freezer.

Lilithlogic · 18/12/2023 16:16

I have most if it already. Things that will spoil will be delivered by Waitrose on Saturday. Cheese hamper Wednesday, Meat from butchers on Thursday, large game pie and pork pie from F & M on Friday

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 18/12/2023 16:26

Very early (there when M&S doors open at 7 am) on the 23rd is when I’ve always done it when hosting. Turkey, Fresh OJ, smoked salmon, bagels, veg/salad/bread.

By then I’ll have bought/made everything else.

CointreauVersial · 18/12/2023 16:26

I have an online grocery slot booked for Friday. So if anything is missed/forgotten, I still have time to pop out and buy it, although will try and stick to the village supermarket which I can walk to, rather than brave the big one.

Only 6 of us on Christmas Day, but 18 on Boxing Day, so that's my main focus.
