Blow up bed for MIL?

justanothermanicmonday1 · 03/12/2023 21:36

Hi all,

We have invited our MIL to stay over on Christmas night and unfortunately don't have a guest bed.

Can anyone recommend a blow up bed that doesn't deflate, is sturdy and reasonably priced?

Thank you!

Does it have to be blow up? I've never found a good one. Could it be one of those metal fold out ones?

Southlandssue · 03/12/2023 21:38

Aerobed is what you need, but not cheap https://www.aerobed.com/

The yawn air beds are meant to be really good. We often use a blow up camping mattress and it's ok as long as the guest isn't really overweight.

Gymmum82 · 03/12/2023 21:39

I’d give up my bed for the guest and sleep on the blow up myself

Aliceinnorthernland · 03/12/2023 21:40

I've got a mattress that folds up from Amazon. It's much better than an airbed IMO.

Folding beds aren’t expensive and come with a mattress. I don’t think anyone would sleep well on a blow up bed

That's great.

I have a small baby who isn't sleeping well so we are co sleeping and would rather keep my own bed for that reason. Thanks

Having slept on a very expensive and appallingly uncomfortable air bed at DSs home I would recommend a mattress or camp bed.

FlutteryButterfly · 03/12/2023 21:44

Innex double height double/king size are great. Definitely get a good night sleep on one of these. Can be made up either normal fitted sheets etc

justanothermanicmonday1 · 03/12/2023 21:44

Do people just like to leave bitchy comments without context?

I have a small baby who is going through a very rough 4 month regression who won't sleep in her cot. Therefore we have to co sleep. So a blow up bed for me won't be safe for the baby. The baby won't settle with DP in the night.

Jesus.

Thanks to everyone who left helpful recommendations.

I'll look at a camp bed or a mattress.

Can I kindly ask the name of the bed please? Thanks

My parents have a bed in a box. Comes with its own pump and I always have a great night sleep!

HardcoreLadyType · 03/12/2023 21:48

We have the aero beds linked above.

You plug them in to the electricity and they inflate automatically. They are the height of a normal bed.

The only thing about them is, they are not as warm as a normal bed, because they are filled with air, which is the same temperature as the room, and doesn’t warm up. I find in winter that you need a quilt underneath, as well as one on top.

TomatoSandwiches · 03/12/2023 21:48

Op you don't even need a reason to not give up your bed, I never would and whenever I visit somewhere I never impose myself and instead book a hotel or room close by.

I do agree that camp beds are a better option than air mattresses though.

triballeader · 03/12/2023 21:49

IF your MiL is getting older or has the start of arthritis or other mobility issues may I recommend you look at a fishing camp bed. Slightly higher off the ground, slightly wider, more padded and far more sturdy. My eldest DD Got one for when I visit. I could have hugged her as the blow up mattress was painful to sleep on and hard to get up from. Not much more expensive than a good camp bed and will fold up between uses.

I love my MIL very much and if I didn't have a small baby she would have our bed. No questions asked. People on MN just love to make you feel like shit🤣 anyway, thank you 🌺

She's in her early 60s however doesn't have the best knees, so this is very useful thank you.

We have a huge corner sofa she can take, my DP has been sleeping there since me and DC have been co sleeping, but it isn't the comfiest to sleep on. Either way we need something else!

Will look into this.

Thank you!

I'm about the same age as your Mil. I would rather sleep on the sofa than a blow up bed. Maybe just ask her what she would prefer

Yes I’d say the same

And if storage is a problem they don’t take up as much room as a camp bed.

you can sleep fine on a decent air bed

justanothermanicmonday1 · 03/12/2023 21:58

Has anyone ever used this?

Wondering if it's comfortable?

She can always have the sofa as it is huge and very warm and will be comfortable once we add pillows and a big duvet!

Thanks

We’ve just stayed at DS flat , on an airbed ( couple , early 60s , reasonably fit ) and it was fine
I think it was a reasonably pricey one , with an electric plug in pump. , but it was comfy
A bit cold , but get a fleece under blanket ? With a proper duvet and pillows
TBH it was 3 nights and so nice to be there and enjoy their company, it was fine
And when I stayed on my own , I just cocooned myself in the duvet , worked like a dream
