I've searched for threads on this as I'm sure there must be some?

What's everyone planning for Christmas Eve dinner this year?

I am unfortunate that I do not have any takeaways who deliver here, so take away is a no go for us but looking for inspiration?!

We now do a beige food platter every year - party type food like pizza, chips, mini sausage rolls, spring rolls, mozzarella sticks etc.... And looking forward to it already 😂

We do a baked Camembert with crusty bread and cold meet/ pickle platter.
Although this year I'm sorely tempted by the pithivier that was on bake off - essentially dauphinoise pie

EllaPaella · 03/12/2023 16:41

We go out for dinner on Christmas eve but when I was a kid my parents always did a ham baked in red wine served with cheesy baked potatos and salad. That's just what I would do if I was cooking on xmas eve.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 03/12/2023 16:44

Salmon fillet

Winter42 · 03/12/2023 16:52

We always have hot pork rolls with stuffing then Panna cotta.

Multipleexclamationmarks · 03/12/2023 16:55

Picky buffet bits

PrincessHoneysuckle · 03/12/2023 16:56

Probably Chinese or indian

njg616 · 03/12/2023 16:56

Cheeseboard and nibbles

VisiblyNot25 · 03/12/2023 16:57

We always do a party tea on Xmas eve

ElevenSeven · 03/12/2023 16:57

M&S party food, melted Camembert and crusty bread etc

Red wine.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 03/12/2023 16:58

Chinese takeaway. I can't remember how it started but it became tradition somewhere along the way.

That's our Boxing Day tea 🤣

Bloody love it.

HeddaGarbled · 03/12/2023 16:59

Steak pie.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 03/12/2023 17:00

Nachos

CirceIsMyHomegirl · 03/12/2023 17:03

Venison casserole, red cabbage cooked in balsamic and demerara, roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, purple broccoli.
Followed by apple crumble and then a cheese plate and some lindt chocolates - I'm more excited about Christmas eve than Christmas day.

ArcticBells · 03/12/2023 17:03

Fish pie , it's a family tradition

Fartooold · 03/12/2023 17:04

I alternate, side of salmon one year, baked ham the next.
All done with 'bits', crusty bread and for ham, cheesy baked potatoes, salad, etc., and in the case of salmon, new potatoes and salad etc.,

I always do too much, insisting on quiches etc that no one eats, se determined to cut back this year!

mamaduckbone · 03/12/2023 17:04

A pot of something tasty that can simmer all day in the slow cooker - chilli or beef with ginger and spring onions probably. Or a Chinese takeaway, but that doesn't help you!

Bigsislookingforadvice · 03/12/2023 17:04

Slow cooked BBQ style beef brisket, mac n cheese, loaded skins - late lunch / early dinner before an evening of games and drinks with DP adult children & their dp. Simple and yummy.

PaminaMozart · 03/12/2023 17:08

Cheese and caramelized onion flan plus a 'massive' (yes, really!!) salad.

My massive salads are legendary... 😘

Pourmeanotherwine · 03/12/2023 17:08

Bit undecided. We often go out for pizza Christma eve, but it's a Sunday this year, so bit weird for going out. May go out earlier in the week. Got the vegan/ veggie students home, so it's always tricky to find something everyone likes.

colourfulchinadolls · 03/12/2023 17:08

I normally do a gammon joint on around the 23rd, we have it hot on that date and then Christmas eve is leftover cold gammon with a nice crusty bread, chutneys, cheese, tomatoes and other salad bits. If it doesn't look like enough I chuck some beige freezer stuff/a pizza or two in the oven and people can help themselves! Plus hot drinks, soft drinks, mulled wine etc. Very relaxed affair.

That sounds delicious, do you use a particular recipe ?
