A bit of a cliche I know, but my favourite part of Christmas is watching people open their presents and seeing them happy.

Every year I have a "favourite" gift that I've bought that I'm excited about.

There's a few this year but randomly I'm probably most excited about my niece's heatless curlers 😅

What about you?

Both are things my children haven't asked for but I know will love

DD13: some Charlotte Tilbury make up, she thinks it's too expensive to ask for but she's always browsing the website. I already know she will be squealing 'you didn't' when she opens it.

DS6: a beautiful plush Darth Vader that records your voice and changes it to a Darth Vader voice. He will love it

A barbie house for my 5 year old

We keep telling her Santa doesn't make Barbie house as it's too big

Going to set it up on xmas eve. Bought loads of accessories , pool, furniture etc
When she comes down in the morning, she will see it!

GarageGalore · 02/12/2023 09:33

I've got tech for my DC. One is expecting it, but the other is getting a refurbished laptop and it is this that I a nervous/excited at. DC has no idea and they could either love it or reject it because it is secondhand (it has one small scratch else you wouldn't know) or not exactly what they had been googling (which was totally inappropriate for first computer) but I know the spec is more than enough to do what they want to do (hence refurbished for cost). Its going to be hit or miss!

ChillyFeets · 02/12/2023 09:35

We have already given it and it was a pure delight!
We got MIL a ticket to see Barry Manilow with us next year (we had to tell her as she cares for FIL who has severe dementia so she needs to organise respite care)
This is probably the best present we've ever given her. She is beyond excited 😊

Tryingtohelp12 · 02/12/2023 09:46

@kikisparks just advice to set up in advance !!! Mine was a pain to initially set up /connect to wifi but very popular now xxx

PictureFrameWindow · 02/12/2023 10:20

That is so lovely @ChillyFeets I hope she has a fantastic time!

Due to sickness, DS sits in the front of the car and I drive. DH sits in the back and always ‘complains’ that he is cold as he doesn’t have a heated seat.
This year, he is having a plug in heated cover for his seat and I know he will be thrilled with it (and we’ll have a family laugh). Can’t wait to see his face!

Twinboyz · 02/12/2023 10:51

Thats amazing @IndiganDop what a lovely gift! I bet he will be so chuffed. I would have loved that - I spent a lot of my 20's trying to find old toys that I'd loved and lost over the years on eBay. A wonderful present. 😍

CreeperBoom · 02/12/2023 11:02

Gah, I had totally finished my Xmas shopping, and now I want to buy the write your own book set!

I'm looking forward to DS's lego. He wanted a set which has never existed, and it has been so much fun piecing it together from bits of different sets, brinklink orders and creating my own instructions. It is looking really impressive, so I can't wait for him to see.

BearSoFair · 02/12/2023 11:12

Celestron stargazing binoculars for DS2. He's not expecting it at all, he thinks headphones are his big present this year but we managed to get both with brilliant Black Friday discounts!

moonlight1705 · 02/12/2023 11:25

Wellies for DH from DD. She's only 4 so doesn't quite understand how expensive they can be but really wanted daddy to have some wellies like us. I found some amazing ones on a really good Black Friday deal with vouchers do a £70 pair wad bought for £25 in actual cash. He will love them!

DD will be excited by the little toy dog that you can walk around on a lead. She's been pointing them out in M&S for months.

My niece is getting a tea set which is unbelievably cute 😍

Wanttobeok · 01/12/2023 20:32

@MamaMissions I can't copy the link for some reason but if you go to etsy and search write your own storybook it will come up, the shop is called makeitpersonal Ltd

My advice with etsy is always leave stuff in your basket for a couple of days because they nearly always send 10% off discount codes etc through your notifications

@Wanttobeok thank you so much, I will check out Etsy, and try your advice about leaving in the basket. Thank you 🙏🏽

siriusblackcat · 02/12/2023 12:35

DD 14 sent me her list, a Shein haul totalling £35. She's so sweet.

The thing I'm most excited about giving her though is a beaded bracelet with the date of the Taylor Swift concert I managed, somehow, to get tickets for.
She has no idea and I can't wait to see her reaction. We went to watch it at the cinema the other month and she cried so she'll probably explode when she realises 😊

Wanttobeok · 02/12/2023 13:04

So jealous of all the people who managed to get Taylor Swift tickets. It would blow his little mind if we could give him those for Christmas 😢

Hope you're kids are super excited xx

Giving my DD who collects rare coins her 24k gold King Charles 3rd coin 😊 I can't wait to see her face

This is a bit outing but never mind.

When DS was about 2, his granny brought a hideous snow globe back from America. It lit up, had a key to turn to play music, and showed Santa's sleigh packed with gifts. DS loved this snow globe and every year he would get it out and admire it, and when the globe was out, Christmas started for him.

When he was 8, he dropped it and smashed the glass. I have never heard him so distressed. He broke his heart for days. We looked for alternates and now have about 6 snow globes of varying sizes, but none have ever really taken the place of "the" one.

Reader, even though it's 20 years old and sold exclusively in US target stores, I found it advertised on Facebook marketplace back in September. Someone in Derbyshire had one. So this year, at the age of 19, DS is going to open "his" snow globe for Christmas. He has no idea, and neither does my DH. I can't wait!

You win the thread. That's made me choke up a bit.

housethatbuiltme · 02/12/2023 14:13

My oldest is autistic and shows no facial reaction or 'emotion' but will probably drive us up the wall retelling facts (from the haynes manual) or things from the joke book (always does).

My middle child will love EVERYTHING, kid has exuberant excitement for anything.

My youngest I have money on being excite by shoes (I normally think clothes aren't gifts but they are the disney elsa boots and shes obsessed with shoes).

The3rdWatermelon · 02/12/2023 14:30

It’s technically 1 year old DD’s second Christmas, but last year she was 2 months old and I was SO poorly after having her with PND and two lots of double mastitis that turned to sepsis. This year she is much more of a person and I’ve just been discharged from perinatal mental health. The few Christmases before last year were really hard, being around family with kids while we were going through IVF.

I’m so excited for Christmas this year. We have decorations up already. We said we wouldn’t get her too much, but I found a rocking horse on FB for £10. It’s about £80 new, and it’s currently hidden in MIL’s caravan. I can’t wait for her to see it!

Highlighta · 02/12/2023 14:36

Both my DC are early 20s but my dd (21) has left home now and lives far away. So I won't see her for Christmas. 😔. I have tried to still make it special, I don't really care too much that is she an adult now.

So, I made her up an advent calendar, it's a sharing one for her and her bf. So there are 24 little gifts of various things, and although I won't be there to see her open them each day, I know she will love it.

I think my favorite is the Mexican day 😀 they are huge fans of spicy food, so that day they have the hottest sauce I could find (ghost pepper sauce with instructions to use sparingly) along with cactus fairy lights and some cactus ice cubes. Some other faves are some decorations for their own tree, ones with their names on and of our dogs, oh and Poopouri spray and fart bombs also await.

Then her parcel went missing, I have been so stressed about it. But it was delivered today thank goodness, so when she gets home tonight she gets to open two days. She has no clue what is in it, I've just said to be on the lookout for a delivery coming.

My ds had an advent too, he is 24 and for two mornings now has asked can he open it 😂

We are never too old for Christmas.

Bubble tea set for dd
Toasting Marshmallow and toppings set for ds

It's the little things!

They've both got a big gift but I think they know about them so it won't be a surprise

One year we got ds a trials bike and he was very meh about it. That was a shame!

MrTiddlesTheCat · 02/12/2023 15:07

DS is getting a drum kit. I'm both excited about seeing his face, he's been asking for years, and terrified the cats will hate me forever.

Highlighta · 02/12/2023 15:15

It's the little things!

Here as well. Every year on Christmas Day they get a silly gift. It's always something cheap and cheerful, but it always seems to be the most memorable.

I find random things during the year, in sales etc and the more random it is, the better. Last year ds had a book '100 facts about Pandas' 😂. He spent almost all Christmas Day reading it. So every now and then I will stop mid a conversation and ask him what today's fact about a Panda is. 😂. This year his daft gift is a 1000 piece puzzle of... A tube of Pringles.

Reminds me of when my DD was little. We were very poor. So I paid a little every week for months to a local toy shop for a Barbie dressing table for her. It came with everything a little girl playing dress up could want. I was so excited for her.

She didn't play with it once. She was obsessed with a small doll (less than 10cm) that came in a moses basket with a little baby's bottle. A 99p stocking filler from Asda whose head kept falling off. But she loved it.
