Where do you hide your gifts?

It's getting increasingly difficult each year to keep the gifts hidden.

Last year was a disaster when we put everything up the loft but it frosted over and when it melted water dripped ok everything 😅... this year they are locked in the ensuite toilet in the spare bedroom.

My parents were not exactly djscreet and a massive pile at the bottom of their bed covered with a sheet was about the extent of their ingenuity!

On top of our wardrobe. Our child is only nearly 2 though and just him so far, so I guess we may need to find more space over the years!

SellFridges · 30/11/2023 15:29

I’ve started leaving them in plain sight in big boxes. I don’t go to massive effort to hide them anymore - if the kids want to snoop around our bedroom then they’ll find them.

Kids are 8 and 12.

NotFastButFurious · 30/11/2023 15:29

have you got family or friends nearby who'd stash them for you?

Makkacakka · 30/11/2023 15:29

My parents on the other hand, hid ours inside their huge in-built wardrobes. I knew there were presents from mum and dad there (father Christmas would bring the rest of course) and I never felt like going hunting. I think I liked surprises even then!

mylifeisprettygood · 30/11/2023 15:30

I hide in plain sight. There are piles of boxes in our bedroom but I tell the kids when they come jn that they are for nanny, uncle blah blah, cousin what's it etc etc. Have done it that way always and they don't question it or ask to look in the boxes.

INeedNewShoes · 30/11/2023 15:31

On top of the tall bookcases in our living room in plain cardboard boxes. I store boxes up there all year round so thus far DD hasn't clocked them even though they're in plain view!

PhantomErik · 30/11/2023 15:33

Ours are in a couple of big suitcases that live on top of the wardrobe.

I add to the suitcases throughout the year when I find nice things so it adds up gradually & everything goes straight in them so I don't have to go in search of that thing I bought 6 months ago etc.

Been there, done that - lost the t-shirt!

GreyWednesday · 30/11/2023 15:39

We don’t. Everything is in boxes/bags so DSCs don’t see anything by accident and have their surprises ruined, but they’re just in our room.

My mum never hid anything either. She’d just say please don’t look in my wardrobe because the Christmas presents are in there. I don’t remember ever looking!

IShouldBeSleeping · 30/11/2023 15:43

Everything is stashed in our ottoman bed. The kids don’t know it opens. I wonder how long I can keep it up for.

TryAgainWithFeeling · 30/11/2023 15:44

In boxes on top of the wardrobes. Too high for kids to reach if they wanted to snoop.

CanIPutTheTreeUpYet · 30/11/2023 16:15

I have a bedroom cupboard, the only place I could put them. I was just saying to my DH last night how the DC have never went looking for their presents, I don't think it's ever occured to them to do so. I definitely did when I was a child!
For big stuff, it's hidden in plain sight. My DS has got a telescope in a massive box in my bedroom. He's walked past it many times but never once been interested enough to see the writing on the side 🤣 although I do get deliveries almost daily so likely doesn't stand out as much as it would elsewhere.
And I know they have never went rooting around in my bedroom cupboard as it would all fall out as soon as they opened the door 🤣 even I try not to go in there unless absolutely necessary! Like an organised, jumbled Jenga pile up in there!

Auntieobem · 30/11/2023 16:17

On top of wardrobe, in wardrobe, in garage, at granny's.

toddlermam · 30/11/2023 16:24

We put ours for our 3 year old DS in the garage however my parents used to store ours at the grandparents house as they had a huge storage room.

wjpa · 30/11/2023 16:25

In my wardrobe
to be fair, I don’t have many clothes so there’s lots of space

LeviOsaNotLeviosaa · 30/11/2023 16:43

Loft usually, but garage at the moment as need easy access for wrapping etc. Easier to bring things in on Xmas eve too so it’ll stay out there this year. We have a lock on the external door, and the front half blocked so it couldn’t be broken into/stolen, and a pin coded bolt on the internal door so DC can’t get in.

ConfessionsOfAMumDramaQueen · 30/11/2023 16:46

My parents taped black bags (badly) over the door of their ensuite shower and put them all inside 😂

I figured out santa wasn't real early on but never bothered me!

LovedMyLastNameItHadToGo · 30/11/2023 16:47

In their Amazon boxes in the front room! I’m wrapping this weekend though! Couple in the car boot too.

mondaytosunday · 30/11/2023 16:48

Under stairs cupboard.

eardefender · 30/11/2023 16:51

In our bedroom, in the divan draw of the 'big bed'. The one that's difficult to open because you have to pull out the bedside table. My kids have never found them.

MrsMitford3 · 30/11/2023 16:53

Mine are older now but have always loosely known where they were hidden spare room but we all like surprises so no one is a peek-er.
I use those big handled bags from Rex-each printed in a pattern to remind me of the recipient-for example DH has a bird print, DS periodic table etc etc and it's very handy to then pull out by bag and wrap.

I have told them the harrowing story of when I was a little girl and i convinced my sister to tell me what she got me-a yarn doll-which ruined the surprise/christmas completely and served as a cautionary tale for their childhood...

cottonstar · 30/11/2023 17:01

I have large decorative boxes high up on top of a large kallax unit that are used for storing birthday and Christmas gifts. Anything large goes in my wardrobe, which is only a standard one but it’s surprising how much it stores (and the DC can’t get in there).

flowerchild2000 · 30/11/2023 17:13

Always hide them in boring places the kids would never look like in the dirty laundry lol

TherebytheGraceofGodgoI · 30/11/2023 17:17

Big stuff is down the side of the wardrobe with my dressing gown hanging from the top of the wardrobe to hide anything. Small stuff in the laundry basket in my room as no one ever goes in there as they have their own baskets

Prettypennies · 30/11/2023 17:25

My parents kindly store our presents in their loft & discreetly pop then in our car when they visit Christmas Eve 😁

Cadno31 · 30/11/2023 17:28

Everything gets kept in my mum's spare room. She only lives in the street behind me so I pop in with stuff as and when. And then I do the wrapping while I pop in for a cuppa. They'd be found in my house in a minute!
