Not a bargain but I wondered if anyone had any suggestions. A good friend had a baby at the beginning of the month and I’d like to get the baby a little Christmas gift, but she’ll only be about a month and a half. I’m sure she’ll get lots of “baby’s first Christmas” things from family.

I don’t have children myself and she’s the first close friend to have a baby so I’m a bit clueless about what is an appropriate gift. I wondered about getting a book, but do I go for a baby book or something a bit older she can keep? The Usborne illustrated fairy tales book someone recommended for another poster above is lovely, but is it silly to buy something like that for a tiny newborn baby? Or any other non-book suggestions would be very much appreciated!

A named stocking or lovely book is a great idea to keep. I bought the Wintertide bear last year for my cousins baby who was 3 months old at the time and made a personalised bauble. Like you, I thought they might be inundated with first Christmas stuff, so I got this mother and baby box, too which is brilliant value. £22 from Next with contents worth £96.

Thank you @BuyStuff and @RJnomore1

a couple of questions on checking out with VERY …

  • where do I put the “welcome” code that gives the discount? I’ve been accepted for the credit and am going through checkout, all the way to payment, but can’t see anywhere to put it?
  • does the “buy now pay later” option also count as credit for the purpose of the 20% discount?

Shamelessly bumping my own post in a plea for help. The 20% off at VERY for new credit account users is definitely the ONLY way I can get the MacBook. They have already approved my credit. But I can’t figure out where to put the code to take the 20% off, nor whether I can use the “buy now pay later” with the 20% off.

Help? Please oh wise ones 😊I know I’ve seen this asked before but can’t find the answers.

You won't be able to get it as your credit limit needs to cover the item cost before discount sorry

I've had this with very before where I've got nervous after each page of the checkout that the voucher box isn't going to appear but its right near the very end after the delivery page. I've just gone to fake order something to try and find out exactly which page it's on but I got nervous at the delivery page that I was accidentally going to buy it!

thaegumathteth · 24/11/2023 12:14

Oops @Happyhippos21 don't all 18 month olds need caffeine!!! i clearly do so I can read posts properly 🙄

For people with actual teen girls -

Des vu have 25% off site wide. Lots out of stock but some available.

Mytribeof3 · 24/11/2023 12:15

Has anyone here ordered from The Chocolate Society? If so, would you recommend?

poignant · 24/11/2023 12:18

With Very I accidentally ordered something when trying to find the box for code. The cancellation was easy luckily.

Anyone waiting on Laithwaites I’m beginning to think they’re in serious financial trouble. I ordered a taster set last weekend and my husband ordered all our Christmas wine £200+ ( hosting this year) with named delivery day of Wednesday. Money taken immediately . Website has been down since Tuesday, order not listed on his account. He’s emailed them as no live chat or phone contact available, email response is they’ll get back in 2-4 working days. BE WARNED - if you planning on putting in big wine orders.

Thanks for this - I was due to place a huge order with them. Fingers crossed they aren’t in trouble and you get your order 🤞

WimbyAce · 24/11/2023 12:42

Lots of complaints on Twitter re Laithwaites, def something going on.

Clucket87 · 24/11/2023 12:45

There has been something put on X about the delays etc.
Might explain some of the delays for people. Xx

Fueledwithfairydustandgin · 24/11/2023 12:48

@Cornishqween what is your budget? I showjump so could maybe help with horsey ideas

CanIPutTheTreeUpYet · 24/11/2023 12:49

@Mytribeof3 I've just reordered the Box of the Month (Almost Perfect) and two cinnamon toast chocolate bars. I took a punt on them last month and obviously thought it was worth going back! We keep the box of the month as a 'special box', twice a week my DC and I sit on my bed and pick which one we're going to try. Even the flavours which sounded weird were nice!
My son absolutely loves the Cinnamon bar so I've bought one for his stocking as a surprise.

I'd definitely recommend and another pp here confirmed to me that they are good when I was ordering too ☺️
Edited to add, I ordered an hour ago and just had a 'your shipment is on its way,' email.

fishfingersandchipsagain · 24/11/2023 12:52

Thank you so much for the VERY help 🙂

I might try giving them a phone to see if there is anything they can do.

@poignant so sorry I made you accidentally order!

Cornishqween · 24/11/2023 12:58

@frecklejuice my dd got it for her 8th bday and adored it, has made so much with it and she's not a kid who sits still for long. Equally my 11 year old old niece had a ball playing with it too so I've got her one for Xmas. I'd say it's quite universal

TherebytheGraceofGodgoI · 24/11/2023 12:58

@Mytribeof3 Ive been waiting for ages for a sale at The Chocolate Society and have stocked up on bulk hot chocolate for the year! Once you try hot chocolate with chocolate you will never go back to powder and now DS feels the same, we get through a lot. (Especially as it’s ’one for the cup, one for the mouth’). I love their hot choc.
They also sell the chocolate shaker that was popular last year and again, once you shake your hot choc, you can never go back.
I’ve tried their malt balls and in all honesty would probably prefer Maltesers. Their chocolate covered orange peel is gorgeous.
20% off all until midnight Monday

Cornishqween · 24/11/2023 12:59

Thanks @Beckafett & @dancemom those are exactly the sort of thing I was after.
