Xmas gifts for a crotchet-ist

Hi everyone I don’t know if I got the name right but I’m looking for a Christmas gift for my sister who has recently started crotchet again something she really enjoys.

My dad suggested needles or a bag for all her crotchet items. Does anyone have ideas of what’s good to buy or where to buy from?

Thank you for any help!

Hobbycraft have their yarn bowls on special offer at the moment I think. It's a special bowl to put your working ball of yarn in to stop it rolling all over the floor.

Pretty stitch markers, maybe from etsy?

Thank you @MammaWeasel i know hobbycraft is not too far away so will definitely look and stitch markers also sound good!

Crochet kits - Wool and the Gang, Wool Couture and Stitch & Story are all good brands who have lovely yarn

If she likes making toys and animals, the Ed’s Animals pattern books from Toft are adorable. Toft also do kits for them https://www.toftuk.com/

This book is also full of adorable animals: Unicorns, Dragons and More Fantasy Amigurumi: Bring 14 Magical Characters to Life! (Unicorns, Dragons and More Amigurumi): Bring 14 Magical Characters to Life! Volume 1 https://amzn.eu/d/fUHACnL

Coco Knits stitch markers are nicer than the plastic ones so make a lovely treat. Make sure you get ones that open if it’s for crochet https://ayarnstory.co.uk/products/colored-opening-stitch-markers

What sort of things is she crocheting? If she's crocheting blankets and big things that would require different storage etc to if she's crocheting toys and little things.

Wool Warehouse has a wide choice of Attic24 yarn colour packs which are great for beginners. The Sungold crochet-a-long yarn pack goes on sale next week ready for pattern release in early January. That would make a lovely gift for a new crocheter.

I love my thread cutting necklace, put it round my neck when I'm crocheting and I don't find myself frantically searching for the scissors down the side of the sofa cushions, under my arse, on the floor........ every time I need to snip a strand.

my dd loves a yarn bowl I think she uses them as ornaments now 😄 I also got her a voucher for a craft shop she likes. where she gets fancier yarn.

oooh that's lovely 😍

There's a few different designs if you google yarn cutter pendent, knit pro do one too.

You can also get crochet rings which you use instead of wrapping the yarn round your fingers, but I have fat fingers so not sure they'd fit 😀

thank you ill definitely have a look..those would be right up her street.

It depends how much you want to spend, but I crochet and I would be over the moon if someone bought me the Attic24 Sungold yarn pack from Wool Warehouse. She doesn't have to use it to make a blanket, she could make a stripy bag or similar. Or just a voucher for wool warehouse so she can choose her own yarn.

These are all great ideas thank you everyone her birthday is early in the new year so I think I’ve got birthday ideas as well. I see a trip to Hobbycraft this weekend for a yarn bowl as they are look fab and will stop her small dog getting at the wool as much!

I know it’s not a crotchet item but a couple of years ago I got my cousin a reading light that goes around your neck in a ‘U’ shape and is bendy. It points downwards towards a book that you would be holding in your hands, but she said it has been great for when she is crocheting and knitting and needs good, bright light to see by. I think I got it from Boots Christmas gift section for about £5.

Depending on budget, the clover amour crochet hook set - they really are amazing.

Honestly? I'd like a voucher for woolwarehouse, or an indie Yarn dyer.

I had a yarn bowl and hated it. Ditto the rings that hold the yarn. I'm not interested in posh stitch markers and the cheapish ones i have hundreds of. Unless you know which hooks she likes and needs it would be easy to get that wrong.

Sorry. Blush

TheFairyCaravan · 16/11/2023 22:27

I’ve got a yarn bowl which DS2 bought me. It’s absolutely beautiful to look at, it’s turned, polished wood (I think he got it from Etsy) but I don’t use it. A ball of yarn doesn’t fit in it properly so I’d have to turn one into a sphere on my yarn winder, another useless present, and I really can’t be bothered.

I’d rather have vouchers so I could choose my own hooks or yarn tbh.

Scampuss · 16/11/2023 22:50

Yarn bowls only really work for yarn wound in balls, which isn't common tbh.

TurquoiseThings · 16/11/2023 23:19

I crochet and on my wishlist this year is a granny square blocker. Just an idea that no one has mentioned so far. I wouldn't want a yarn bowl as my skeins of yarn aren't round. Hooks and stitch markers are a personal choice and she likely already has ones she likes to use.

LulooLemon · 16/11/2023 23:33

Voucher for local independent yarn shop?

EversoDisorganised · 16/11/2023 23:40

Another no to yarn bowls, they don't work for me. The only stitch markers I like are the cheap plastic ring ones and hooks are a very personal choice. I would love one of the newer Attic 24 yarn packs though.

Jewelspun · 17/11/2023 00:22

Bowltech crochet hooks.

He's on Facebook and his name is Allan.

I agree that yarn bowls, crochet hooks and stitch markers can depend very much on personal taste.

Vouchers for Wool Warehouse are are a good idea, I agree. Then your sister can choose whatever she likes. Postage is free over £30. Were you thinking of spending that much?

yoshiblue · 17/11/2023 05:25

Second Wool Warehouse voucher or Attic 24 yarn pack.

Or how about tickets to Yarndale in Skipton next year. They may not be out yet, but you could order her one of their project bags and give £20 which will cover two tickets.

yarndale.co.uk/yarndale-stuff/bags/

Agree, yarn bowls are a waste of time. I use a Curver oval bowl, but it's not really a present type gift.

Enko · 17/11/2023 07:14

I am another one who doesn't use her yarn bowl though I love the look of it.

I only use one type of crochet hook addi.swing. they are ergonomical and I love them dd calls them my tooth brushes!

I do like pretty stitch markers
Love a Derdri Uys kit of any sort especially Ubuntu

Or yes vouchers

EversoDisorganised · 17/11/2023 07:17

Ha, yes, that illustrates the point about crochet hooks, I bought an Addi swing hook following recommendations on here and couldn't get on with it at all, I gave it away.
