Have I missed the Hallmark/Netflix/ Amazon prime thread on all those cheesy Prince from (insert unlikely name for snowy European country) meets girl from New York films?

Anyone share my guilty pleasure of these so awful they’re good films?

please tell me I’m not the only one here.

And so much red checky fabric - shirts, coats, pyjamas, cushions etc

witchypaws · 15/11/2023 00:06

I've just started (my5) a very Yorkshire Christmas

So far
Checked red fabric
Stranded American woman
Kindly widower with cute child
Greedy land owner

In tonight's film a Christmas tree got donated to the town, and put up in front of the town hall. Nice tree but nothing particularly out of the ordinary. But the next day one of the side characters said,

'Last night my husband and I got hot chocolate and just sat and looked at the tree for an hour. It was the most romantic thing we've done for years.'

I'm sorry, what? You stared at a Christmas tree for an hour??

RoseMartha · 15/11/2023 01:13

I watched a some last week on Netflix and Ch5. Some of them are too cheesy and predictable even for me. I had to stop watching two of them. Both were where the main girl was visiting the uk from New York for different reasons.

I watched Lucy Shimmers and the Prince of Peace on youtube tonight.

I love Christmas films. And The Family Stone is my present wrapping film, I love it.

I'm really just commenting so I can find the thread again. But my favourite Christmas film recently has been Castle for Christmas.

I started watching Christmas in Scotland (or varistion thereof) on channel 5 on Sunday but couldn't finish it. I've been reliably informed it will be repeated endlessly so I can catch it again.

Cheers! (Clinks large mug of hot chocolate whilst eyeing up the local grumpy maple syrup farmer/property developer/time travelling knight)

I watched Christmas in Scotland at the weekend and thought it was great, definitely catch the rest of it if you can.

I watched that one and was racking my brains trying to remember where I'd seen her before. I had to Google in the end because it was driving me mad.

‘All I Want for Christmas’ is a good one. It has Lauren Bacall & Thora Birch in it.

RoseMartha · 15/11/2023 21:43

Hope at Christmas on Prime

VillageFete · 15/11/2023 21:52

@Mountaindhew One of my favourites. Lacey at her finest 🤣 Can’t stand Prime for finding things.

@AmyandPhilipfan Is this the one with previous Hallmark hunk, Cameron Mathison? Also Jenni Garth? I like that one.

The Queen of Christmas cheese - Candace Cameron Bure, was speaking on Instagram. I thought Bure was pronounced like “Pure” But with a B at the beginning. Apparently it’s a much fancier “Buret” Like “Beret” But with a U in.
I need to get a life 🙈

VillageFete · 15/11/2023 22:34

Typed “Lacey Chabert” In to Prime. Currently watching “The sweetest Christmas”

Impressed so far, she’s a semi finalist in the American gingerbread competition. Her hunky ex is back on the scene with his charming child. The Town she lives in is very festive, lots of snow and twinkling lights.

AmyandPhilipfan · 15/11/2023 23:25

Tonight I have watched Falling For Christmas. About a spoiled heiress who hits her head, gets amnesia and is taken in by the kindly widower with the adorable young child and while with them she learns to be humble and sweet. It was pretty good.

witchypaws · 15/11/2023 23:33

I've just found a load on paramount + so I've started one... will report back

I watched one yesterday that I think has been on Great Movies Christmas every day for a week Grin - or at least it feels that way. It's called 'Christmas Angel' (2009 version- a number of films have the same title, another issue with Christmas movies).
Woman with no job, friends with seemingly poor bloke in rundown apartment discovers he is a kind of Secret Santa for the area (and actually filthy rich)- he give her a job, he is making up for a bad past. Woman meets journo who discovers the secret. Not much in the way of snow, or Christmas cookies, but 'a message' instead. Grin

You can guess how it ends. Grin

VillageFete · 16/11/2023 08:47

@Raahh I keep seeing this too! And it actually on Movies 24 now! I’m watching 5 mins, then I have to go to work 😩

Raahh · 16/11/2023 08:52

@VillageFete I don't know why they keep showing it- it's not like it's a new one, stars one of the 'big names' like CCB, or is even that good. Grin.

But I keep watching it, and wondering why she doesn't have bottled water in the fridge any way. I bet in rl there she actually would- (when she washes her hair with the dog bowl water ) Grin

IceAndLemonPlease · 16/11/2023 18:35

I’m getting started on them tonight. Will update later !

Roselilly36 · 16/11/2023 18:57

Last Christmas

JewelleryCat · 16/11/2023 19:28

I wouldn’t think of ITVX for Christmas films, only channel 5 lol. Do you recommend it?

ThePlantKiller · 16/11/2023 19:54

I'd recommend A Christmas Movie Christmas which is on ITVX.

Currently watching Christmas Homecoming on Prime, which has Julie Benz from Dexter as a military widow who takes on an injured soldier as a tenant. Tenant helps her save the local military museum, while rediscovering the magic of Christmas at the same time.

IceAndLemonPlease · 16/11/2023 21:52

Loved “Christmas bells are ringing”. One of my new hallmark favourites. Just watched it tonight for the first time!

AndThenTheWolvesCame · 16/11/2023 22:00

I saw ‘Sister swap: Christmas in the City’ and its sister film ‘Sister swap: Christmas in the country’ (I think that one was called!).

They are 2 film each following one sister as they need a break and take over each other’s home responsibilities for Christmas. Each film follows the work and love lives of one sister so you see the bits you missed from the other film. It’s got actress who was the bride from Father of the Bride in it and her real life sister!
