Well driving home today and a house had its Christmas tree up all decorated and lights on in the front bay window!! It’s only the 30th October the clocks only went back yesterday, I mean it’s Halloween tomorrow , bonfire night at the weekend. Is it only me that think why?

OP posts:

I'd be tempted to knock on and ask what the fuck are they playing at.

minipie · 30/10/2023 23:02

You walked through a time slip OP. It’s the only sane explanation.

It's only 13 days till Diwali.

My neighbours have always put their Christmas tree up a couple of weeks beforehand, and then just keep it up for Christmas.

@AnOldCynic

mind your own fucking business. What they do inside their home is NONE of your business.

@Nanalisa60

there are a few up around here. Well technically one of them isn't up for the season, it's just not down from about 2 years ago 😂

it happens every year.

i think it was last year a poster said theirs was up as their very Ill child wanted one last Christmas, so unbeknown to him they brought it forward as he wasn't going to make it to Dec.

presumably most people that out them up early just do it because it makes them happy & that's good enough for me!!

You have no idea what is going on in someone else’s life or the reasons why they have their tree up so early

CanIPutTheTreeUpYet · 30/10/2023 23:55

My friends little girl died just before Christmas, years ago. I don't fully know her reasons, don't need to, but if she wants to start Christmas early each year, be it to remember the last moments she had with her daughter, or to give herself time to grieve again before she can mask for her other children... It's harming no one. Even if someone just loves Christmas because it reminds them of a happy childhood... It's their Christmas. I couldn't care less how other people live, hopefully they're happy living their life for themselves and not to fit in with other people.

funbags3 · 30/10/2023 23:58

I detest this time of year but if people want to celebrate early, it's none of my business.

FreyafromLondon · 31/10/2023 00:38

I know someone that put theirs up on the 5th of September!! It's fucking ridiculous

WaitingfortheTardis · 31/10/2023 05:13

I find as soon as all the Halloween rubbish has been removed I can start to really look forward to Christmas, but this does seem very early. Maybe it's a Halloween tree!

Actually, I remember the year my parents moved abroad and we did a full Christmas together before they went in October as we knew we wouldn't be seeing them for quite a long time. We probably did look a bit mad to anyone who looked in and saw the tree and decorations. We did take it down in between though.

Therunecaster · 31/10/2023 06:21

My 1st tree goes up on the 1st of November. It makes me happy and does no harm. That's a good reason for me!

LynetteScavo · 31/10/2023 06:32

If people want to have Christmas trees in their house all year round, so what?

Years ago a family in my road put a tree up at the end of October. I thought it was very early, but then I learned that their child was I'll and wasn't going to live until Christmas, so they were celebrating early for him. Now I never judge early trees.

Some people don't have trees, some have several, some take them down on Boxing Day, some leave them up until epiphany. There is no Christmas tree law,.

Ohdearanotheryear · 31/10/2023 06:36

I can't understand why some people get overly annoyed or bothered by what other people do in their own homes. Live and let live, there's worst things happening.

Singleandproud · 31/10/2023 06:44

It's not unusual to see trees up early here as lots of people (men mostly) work offshore or in the forces so they celebrate before they go off.

We don't have a tree as DD doesn't like it (ASD) + 2 cats, we just string lights around the bookcase.

There is no Christmas tree law, just let people carry on and do your own thing.

My friend's husband has less than three months to live, he loves everything about Christmas, their tree has been up for two weeks, since the day he received the news from his consultant.

Who the hell gave anyone else the power to judge what anyone does in their own home that has naff all effect on anyone else.

Cluelessbutmeanswell · 31/10/2023 06:53

It's a comfort for those who struggle with the long dark nights. Allow people their own choices and just focus on yourself.

JingsMahBucket · 31/10/2023 06:53

You know, it really isn’t difficult to just let people enjoy things.

Blippard · 31/10/2023 06:58

It is strange how focused people get on how other people choose to decorate their own homes.

BlairWaldorfOG · 31/10/2023 07:53

There's been one decorated in our village since the 1st September. I just can't get her up about someone else's decision in their own home. My children love driving past it.

FourChimneys · 31/10/2023 08:03

I am the most Bah Humbug person in the world about Christmas but fully respect the rights of everyone to choose their own interior decor, seasonal or otherwise.

If it makes people happy then that is all that matters. The world needs more happiness.

vidflex · 31/10/2023 08:07

My ASD child likes the lights. One small tree up already. It brings them a lot of joy and is helping the transition from day to night easier for them. Not doing anyone any harm is it.

dicedicebaby · 31/10/2023 08:12

One of my Fb friends posted a photo of her lounge looking like Santa's fucking grotto at the weekend. Mental.

Ariela · 31/10/2023 08:28

Are you sure they bothered to take it down in January?

Nonplusultra · 31/10/2023 08:33

I’ve no issues with what people do in their own homes but I wish there was a law against businesses having ostentatious and unignorable Christmas displays in October. Fine to sell Christmas stock. Not fine to have twinkly fake greenery around the door and a window display.

But in your own home - do whatever makes you happy.

Are they from the Phillipines by any chance as September is the start of their ‘Ber’ months when the Christmas trees and decorations go up.
