Stocking fillers for kids at uni

Kids not ready to give up stockings just yet but with them getting older it's harder. We have a rule of 10 presents in a stocking (to keep it fair!)

So far thinking alcohol minis, posh toiletries, designer pants. Will get a food gift card and put in a small box.

Trying to think of things that would be useful to take back to uni.

Any recommendations for any new small board games / card games to fit in stockings?

I don’t do alcohol in stockings as youngest isn’t 18 yet (month off!) but some wierd miniatures is a good one potentially

Trumpton · 28/10/2023 12:58

I try to keep to 10 or so items and a budget of about £25-30 each gift. My DDs are adult so have reusable bags with individually wrapped items. It is so funny to see them finding the same gift and unwrapping them together!

Some great ideas on here for adult DC. Mine are mid 20s and still love a stocking.
My usual list.
Toblerone
Hair wax
socks
A miniature
Posh shower gel
I put little rechargeable headtorches in last year, they were a hit.
I like the idea of a reuseable bag to put everything in instead of a stocking. That way I can do one for the girlfriends as well.

@Trumpton (hello!) Bubble tea sounds interesting - any recommendations?

They always get a large Toblerone too. It takes up a lot of space 😁

£3.50 in Sainsburys atm with Nectar card. Interesting flavours too 👌

askmenow · 28/10/2023 13:24

Sainsburys TU grey beanie hat with integrated led headlight.

As well as the socks, toiletries, and sweets, Mine have each got a crocheted positive potato this year. Very silly but will make them smile. They each have a slightly different one - an emotional support pickle, a positive potato, a positive poo and a positive chicken. I got them for about 5 each from Amazon, after shopping around a bit.

Egg cups and toy alpaca guinea pigs were hits last year.

Oh @Skap ! Hello!
We meet again!
I got single fruit bubble tea from Tesco £2.30 each.

Wildernesstips · 28/10/2023 13:50

I've just bought mine some headlights for his crocs from Amazon. But I try to keep the majority to consumable items.

Some great ideas here.

londonmummy1966 · 28/10/2023 13:52

I've bought DD2 the tote bag and a couple of note books from the V&A Chanel exhibition - online via V&A shop. DC1 is in halls with limited facilities so I bought some of the microwave egg accessories from the middle of Lidl last week - silly egg cup, microwave boiled egg maker and microwave egg poacher. Means she can have avocado and eggs with her toast in the morning.

londonmummy1966 · 28/10/2023 13:53

I've also sent off a holey cashmere jumper to Turtle doves in exchange for a pair of fingerless gloves so one of them can have those.

starfishmummy · 28/10/2023 14:04

Spares of anything they use a lot but regularly lose or break

Eg cheap earbuds

A Crimpit wrap maker
Electric candle (for halls rooms where real candles not allowed)

My dd says the stocking is the best part of Christmas so I try and chose things I know she will like. Dd doesn’t drink so no miniatures, she’s a bit quirky (ASD) and finding things are hard, luckily she’s a swifty so I will probably get her some kind on Taylor swift bracelet. Other things…..

A gift card for one of her favourite take aways.
Some of her favourite snacks (mini pot of Pringles, pop tarts, chocolate orange).
A fidget toy.
Lush lip balm.
A treasure hunt map thingy for the City she’s studying in.
Some alphabet beads (for making Taylor swift bracelets).
Sketching pencils
Chilli bottle (or similar).

nicky2512 · 28/10/2023 15:36

I still put a bottle of matey bubble bath in for my two - throwback to when they used to get so excited about it when they were little!
Has made me smile to see how many dds will be getting beads for Taylor Swift bracelets. My dd is 21 and I ordered some for her the other day.

Sainsburys TU grey beanie hat with integrated led headlight.

I got this for my husband last year, for the night time dog walk. It's brilliant!

HippyChickMama · 28/10/2023 15:44

Ds uses his laptop a lot for school and says the most useful present he's ever received was a multi USB connector that we put in his stocking last Christmas

Clarinet1 · 28/10/2023 15:56

How about some Jibbitz if they have Crocs?

I second more or less any kind of stationery - highlighters? Pens? Jazzy paperclips?

Something related to the subject they’re studying? E.g. As a music student I could always use more clarinet reeds!
