Stocking fillers for kids at uni

mylittleprince · 28/10/2023 10:46

Kids not ready to give up stockings just yet but with them getting older it's harder. We have a rule of 10 presents in a stocking (to keep it fair!)

So far thinking alcohol minis, posh toiletries, designer pants. Will get a food gift card and put in a small box.

Trying to think of things that would be useful to take back to uni.

Any recommendations for any new small board games / card games to fit in stockings?

Ooh following for ideas. Usually I do small toiletries, fluffy socks and chocolate in stockings. This year will be harder in general because anything DD wants to take back with her will have to be carted on the train.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 28/10/2023 10:50

I've just ordered one of these for each of mine

I saw it recommended on one of the Christmas threads and thought it was a fantastic idea

My thoughts too, realistically anything bought this year needs to be able to go back on the train. Going to encourage grandparents to give cash which they're not always keen on doing but I can't really think of anything else they need as much. Will suggest a book or something so that they can give something to unwrap with it.

Top of Dd's wish list is Deliveroo gift card.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 28/10/2023 10:52

They always get a large Toblerone too. It takes up a lot of space 😁

My adult DC love a Toblerone too. Xmas tradition.

Also car cleaning kits
Airfresner for car. Sometimes a Star Wars one.

Something novelty eg Lego keyring, Yahoda bottle opener.

This year I've got D's who bakes, a Colin the caterpillar mould set, for baking a Colin cake.

A book of stamps. A nice Waterman pen.

Cards against humanity

Small games that my uni age DC have loved;

Coup
One night ultimate werewolf
Hive travel
monopoly deal (aimed at younger kids but they still love it)

I’m also putting in a fancy pack of playing cards, perfume/ cologne samples, jewellery off Etsy, fairy lights, guitar picks & strings, and a little bottle of Tabasco.

AdoraBell · 28/10/2023 11:12

For my DDs I do their preferred Lipsalves, one likes Palmers and the likes the ones in metal pots. Grift cards for coffee shop, one is Starbucks 🤢the other not. Coffee pods. Hair clips/bands for ponytails/
bun. A naice lipstick/nail polish/perfumers soap.

I’m sure I’ve forgotten something.

LesleyA · 28/10/2023 11:25

Suduko book, magazine, mouthwash, towelling band to keep hair from face when makeup/cleansing, nail clippers, coffee mug, Christmas ornament that you shake and snow comes down - for fun. Room spray , candle, freezer bags, dental floss, screen cleaning wipes,

Ophy83 · 28/10/2023 11:36

Independent toy stores often do a great range of card games. There's one in Canterbury called Whirligig that is brilliant if you're anywhere near there.
Charlotte Tilbury lipstick or whatever their preferred fancy brand that they wouldn't necessarily buy themselves!
A cashmere beanie - Zara do some nice ones.

I’ve never heard of clear post it notes!! Off to look!

BeyondMyWits · 28/10/2023 12:25

Socks... my girls (final year) say they can NEVER have too many socks, it increases time between laundry visits.

BrutusMcDogface · 28/10/2023 12:26

Oh no, they’re plastic 😔 I won’t be getting them.

I don’t have kids at uni yet but when I was there myself, I would have loved food gift cards, maybe for takeaways or even supermarkets so the cash could go on nights out.

CheersToMe · 28/10/2023 12:35

Chilly bottle
Travel mug
Pizza cutter
Mini travel toiletries
Travel adaptor plug with USB ports
Fancy socks
Fancy pants
Chocolate
Sweets
Blu tac
Book
Magazine
Tape measure
Fairy lights
Jar of fave spread (biscoff, Nutella etc)

toads912 · 28/10/2023 12:38

i had a knife sharpener in my stocking one year whilst I was at uni, and I still have it 4 house moves later!
A tad boring but incredibly useful

Delphigirl · 28/10/2023 12:52

we have a formula now and I get complaints if there is too much deviation:
-Pants
-socks
-gold chocolate coins
-starbucks/Nero gift card
-Lipstick /mascara for girls hair wax/beard oil for boys
-nice body wash/soap on a rope
-paperback novel
-something personalised with a photo of the dogs (one year pack of cards each, another year Tshirt with dog skiing/skydiving etc, another year towels with dogs hairy face on etc… they are getting sillier and it is becoming a tradition. May do pants with dogs on and kill 2 categories with one stone this year)
-something unexpected and useful like spare wireless headphones, nice bottle opener, Swiss Army knife, proper manicure set, wireless speaker
-something really silly
