Ladies stocking fillers

SharonTheHappySquirrel · 11/10/2023 21:33

I am doing stockings fillers to go inside the main present for a few ladies, ages between 40-60. On my list so far are the usual things of chocs, a small bottle of prosecco, a nice hand cream, nice candle, have bought some turtle dove wrist warmers. What would you like to receive as stocking fillers, or what are you buying for the ladies in your lives? Can be jokey, they all have a good sense of humour

Nice stationary ( eg busy b), nice cosmetics eg Ren, and if you are getting shower gel get the fancy stuff eg elemis or l'occitane

What do you all write in your notebooks?

They write out "I must not call women 'ladies'" a thousand times.

I use a notebook as a bullet journal but one typically lasts over a year then I start a new one, which I prefer to choose myself. I also have a small one with a list of books I've read in it. I also have a Christmas list one which has lasted over 20 years. But I probably wouldn't use any others. One of my DCs uses loads of them though, she writes fiction and usually has several on the go but again likes a very specific type so unless you knew that chances are you might give her something that wouldn't get used.

I did find something useful yesterday in a gift shop, a tiny little wire comb for cleaning hairbrushes and combs, it does a really good job.

I’m at this age range.
I absolutely hate the presents of candles, make up, bath bombs, hand cream, tin cocktails, scarves etc. By this age people are very choosy what they put in or on themselves.
My stocking usually has box of chocolates ( no mint or chocolate oranges please ) or good fudge, winter socks, interesting tea bags.
I would also like a mug/ funny coaster/scratch card.

I get two stockings because I’m spoilt (or rather, DM cannot resist so we open an extra one each on Boxing Day!).

Things I like getting:
bubble bath
g&t in cans or mini gin
seeds
bed socks (I wear them all winter as normal socks)
random kitchen implements
chocolate
hand cream
snacks (mini packs of olives)

I've just spent a small fortune at the V&A online shop - they have lots of lovely ideas and as they have the Chanel exhibition on at the moment there are some really nice Chanel themed gifts. I usually get my DDs tote bags from there as stocking presents and this year they have CHanel and Mary Quant ones (latter are £5 I think). Also nice notecards etc. which are always useful at Christmas for writing thank you letters....https://www.vam.ac.uk/shop/home

Agreed @SharonTheHappySquirrel the National Portrait Gallery, Tate Modern and Design Museums all have great gift shops online too.

Rina66 · 15/10/2023 20:46

Sorry, that was for @londonmummy1966

@FeltCarrot "What do you all write in your notebooks?"

I always have a notebook near at hand. If someone mentions a tv show or a book I might like. A recipe or an ingredient. Something said in a podcast or on the radio I might want to look into further. If I have an idea for something to write. Something I could give someone. Loads of stuff.

wibdib · 16/10/2023 00:45

Another thing that is useful - a glass nail file. Much more gentle to use than traditional emery boards, last for ages and the sort of thing it can be useful to have several of - car, handbag, desk drawer, dressing table, l hallway leaving the house drawer etc etc as you’re likely to notice a broken nail at in opportune moments so if there’s plenty on hand they’ll get used.

Ilovelurchers · 16/10/2023 07:19

I've been making a stocking for myself for when I go away with my daughter just after Xmas (we are going to have a second Xmas just the two of us).

I have bought me:
-Fragrance
-amusing (to me) pin badge
-little purse/bag suitable for Xmas parties and nothing else really!
-bikini (I know....)
-head massager
-miniature dolls house kit, which is something I have always wanted.

Might also get face masks, nail polish, books I really want....

It's nice you are doing this for your friends, whatever you call them! 😉 Good luck.

Very puzzled by the ‘ladies’ title. Do you mean women, @SharonTheHappySquirrel?

Personally I wouldn’t trust the taste of anyone who couldn’t describe me using an acceptable term …

Are you for real ??

crochetmonkey74 · 16/10/2023 14:41

I love a fancy jam or some posh crackers for cheese. Also partial to a nail varnish. I love practical things like handbag size wet wipes, travel toothbrush and paste, mini hair brush, microfibre hair towel. Love some nice chocolate or a nice M&S choc festive item. I really love bubble bath or shower gel and some nice body lotion too. NIce socks - like bamboo ones. I quite like a couple of pens like muji fineliners or something or other little bits of stationery like a mini stapler or post its. One thing my family have started putting in is a charity shop book- sometimes wrapped in brown paper so it is a mystery book

recklessgran · 18/10/2023 21:05

Pocket posh puzzle book
£10 WHSmith/Waterstones gift card to buy a paperback of my choice
Nail polish and remover pads.
Jelly belly car air freshener
Sheet masks
A small password book
Miniature bottle of spirits [Jack Daniels in my case]
A pack of Zebra biros. Cheap and cheerful but brilliant writers.
Small notebooks - extra marks for pretty covers and elastic closure.

RubyGemStone · 18/10/2023 21:51

Really do know your audience because I am not eco-conscious, don't want a bloody plant or any lentil type shite but love a mini prosecco.

Our friend did our small group (of LADIES within said age range) stockings last year. Was quite fab, can't remember everything but it included:

Mini Gin
Hand cream
Jar of something (I got chutney, other friend posh jam, someone else piccalilli)
Snack (sweets, bombay mix and for me, wasabi almonds)
'A Very Short Introduction' Book (different for each person)
Sliding Parcel Opener
Sheet Mask
Microplane type thing
Small trashy novel (Mills & Boon type thing)
Mini Bullet
Stojo Cup

And my favourite ever thing Trolley Coin Keyring. Never knew I needed this.
