Ladies stocking fillers

SharonTheHappySquirrel · 11/10/2023 21:33

I am doing stockings fillers to go inside the main present for a few ladies, ages between 40-60. On my list so far are the usual things of chocs, a small bottle of prosecco, a nice hand cream, nice candle, have bought some turtle dove wrist warmers. What would you like to receive as stocking fillers, or what are you buying for the ladies in your lives? Can be jokey, they all have a good sense of humour

Very puzzled by the ‘ladies’ title. Do you mean women, @SharonTheHappySquirrel?

Personally I wouldn’t trust the taste of anyone who couldn’t describe me using an acceptable term …

Faux puzzlement 🙄

and acceptable to one is not to another, luckily I know all my friends really don’t give a shit if I refer to them as ladies. I’m sure there’s loads of things you do that I find unacceptable

Things I really appreciate:
Bath bombs/bath salts/bubble bath/shower gel
Vegan chocs
Miniature Absolut Vodka
Tropic Lip Fudge
Colourful nail varnish
Bold earrings
Nice scarves
Books
Bamboo socks

Most of those items would be more expensive than a "stocking filler" surely? Confused who gets jewellery as a filler rather than a main present?

Me because you can get some nice jewellery for 10-20 pounds in silver

OMGitsnotgood · 14/10/2023 03:55

I'd be happy with almost everything suggested so far, I'm clearly easily pleased!. (Then again, i don't find 'ladies' offensive either.)

I'd like notelets or notecards as I often drop people thank you notes for various reasons, and you don't see so many around these days. TKMaxx often have nice ones or garden centres.

I like small 'cocktail' napkins for when just having drinks and nibbles. Not always that easy to find either although TKMaxx and garden centres have come up trumps there too.

I was given a selection of herb seeds and pretty little pots for my birthday last year. Even a selection of seeds on their own without the pots would make a practical stocking filler.

Tiny retractable tape measure for pocket/handbag.
This is a great suggestion that might sound strange at first reading. I 'won' one in a cracker years ago and carried in my handbag til i lost it.Surprising how often I used it. Thank you for reminding me to look for a replacement!

A sleep mask. Silk ones are inexpensive on Amazon. Can't do without mine! A silk fan - again some nice multipacks on Amazon.

CurlewKate · 14/10/2023 05:03

It depends. Are you saying "ladies" and "40-60" because you want ideas for older women? In which case, just give them what you would give a "normal🤣" woman! And for the love of god, no miniature toiletries. Or candles or Prosecco. How about a book. A plain(not flowery) notebook and pen. Some interesting spices. Posh chocolate. A tub of instant chai. Some folding nail scissors. Some of those wipes for tidying up nail polish. A key ring type phone charger.

Shower steamers
Tiny umbrella that fits in an evening bag
Ladies Swiss Army knife
Terrys choc mint (same as the orange but a mint version, I can confirm it's delicious!)
Cocktail in a can

I must try this flavour, thank you!

This is why you really need to know your recipients. I'd agree that those things are a little uninspired but I'd be happy to receive them as things that I would use up so no waste.

Guiltyfeethavegotnorhythm0 · 14/10/2023 07:54

Ooo I'd like nice pen , maybe some nail polish and maybe a new notebook of some sort .

EfficientlyDecluttering · 14/10/2023 08:11

It is definitely a case of knowing your audience, I don’t want anything that reminds me of my age eg reading glasses or anything menopause related. No eye masks either, I have a heated one already because I get dry eyes but I’d have no use whatsoever for the sort you sleep in. I also already have a tiny handbag sized tape measure.

I do think this is a problem, by the time you are 50+ you not only tend to buy the things you need or want like thermal mugs and reading glasses and you have also had years of people buying you handbag mirrors, candles, scarves, mugs, notebooks, fluffy socks and you just don’t need any more. Giftcards are more and more appealing then I can use them on things I actually want or need.

DilemmaDelilah · 14/10/2023 08:40

I would like one of those hair drying wraps.
I would NOT like hand cream as I'm still using up stuff I have had in previous years! Same with smellies in general, although I do like bath so bubble bath is ok - but a tiny bottle of something really nice rather than a big bottle of something inexpensive.
Chocolate coins are a must, as is a tube of smarties. I also like other foodie gifts, but the difficulty is that if you are doing the same for everybody there is always going to be somebody who doesn't like something, or who is diabetic/on a diet.
I don't like prosecco - or most alcohol in fact. A mini bottle of Bristol Cream sherry would go down well though.
Books are always welcome.
There is a seller on Etsy who makes the most fabulous ceramic birds - I would definitely like one of those https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/RFStudioPottery?ref=shop-header-name&listing_id=795203842
Some summer bulbs or seed balls would be nice.

The robin in the picture is the least nice bird in my opinion, check out the others!

DilemmaDelilah · 14/10/2023 08:44

Oooh! Also a mini screwdriver set (not for specs) and a glasses case. In fact - small tools in general.... I had a lovely small but heavy hammer before my DH 'borrowed ' it.

BashfulClam · 14/10/2023 09:36

Why do people always give folk mini hand cream I have millions of the buggers, and lipbalms. Also someone said Dove, I would hate that. I don’t mind the dove bar but the other items make me feel sick (despite telling my mum she buys me it every year and I give it to the food bank). The mini umbrella is good, I get my husband a pret gift card so he can get a lunch when he works in town. I love a desk calendar so when I work at home i can see things at a glance. A lunch bento box or food flask would be nice.

KirstenBlest · 14/10/2023 11:03

A magnet pen holder - great idea
A note pad which also has a magnet on the back. - great idea
A nice pen - too personal, i'm fussy with things like pens and wallets
A decent sized mug. - no thanks
Funny socks Menopausal Socks for Sale | Redbubble - bloody awful

nice hand cream can easily be regifted or passed on

lipbalm - if it's so shit, how come I often get asked for it? Usually by men in warm offices or on holiday when they realise that they should have got one with SPF

justwatchingtelly · 14/10/2023 12:12

Lush bath bomb
A face and hand mask
A nice shampoo and conditioner set
A chocolate orange
Scratch card
Lip balms (not fussed about it being a brand)
A book
A pair of gloves or socks
Clementine and an apple

I like consumables, not clutter.

Thanks for keeping the ideas coming.

I am almost in the 40-60 age range, give it another couple of years, but I just flagged up the age range as they would like very different things than a uni student kind of age lady. And no, despite a PP calling out my use of the word, I will not stop stop using it. 😂

defo keeping an eye out for mint choc orange. One for myself will be going in the trolley too.

BTW- I'm a lady in that age range and not offended by the word at all! 🙄

Mini umbrella a good idea - as I have a habit of leaving them all over the place.
I have, at present, 3 lots of very nice lip balm and 2 tubes, definitely don't want any more!!!
Years ago there was a rub in nail buffing stuff in a little flat tin - that was good. I don't know if they still do that?
Hair glitter? Wash out stuff. Can be used by anyone from 5 to 85.
Small pack of paper tissues - bulks out the stocking and doesn't cost very much.
Happynose sore nose balm for colds.
Instant heating hand heater thingies - especially if you all know each other through outdoor events.

DilemmaDelilah · 14/10/2023 16:33

@sm4713 I am also a lady... Or at least I try to be! I am also female, and a woman, but most of all a lady.

KirstenBlest · 14/10/2023 18:53

I gave someone a hay fever balm (Hay Max) and that was well-received.
Burt's Bees do a cuticle balm,

D20 · 14/10/2023 19:41

A great stocking filler I receive last year was a rechargeable candle lighter (taser).

Instead of a candle what about fragrance oil for burners/ceramic diffusers/lava rock?

I like the bird and blend tea idea - I’ve been following them for ages and not bought anything because it seems a little frivolous just for me so what a great excuse if I’m buying for someone else.
