What's your go to Boxing Day breakfast?

We're hosting this Christmas and I have 9 people in total (7 adults, 2 kids, one adult is Gluten-Free) I'm cooking for.

Looking for inspiration for Boxing Day breakfasts - what do you usually do?

Shamelessly hoping I can steal an idea or two.
Currently thinking something simple like scrambled eggs, bacon and toast.
Is it too 'every day'? I'm probably overthinking this way too much - first time I'm hosting this many people and they all arrive on the day we come back from holiday (I'm an idiot - I know Smile)

We always do a big fruit salad with yogurt and some croissants.
Don't fancy a full english/meaty breakfast after Christmas day but still want something a bit special!

Bubble 'n Squeak using leftovers from The Dinner, with fried eggs on top.

Oooo! That is a good idea - love the thought of some croissants, jams and yoghurt!
I think you're probably right that eggs and bacon may be a bit too much after Christmas Day!

French toast

A lot depends on what food you'll be having later too .
We have a Tradition of home-made pizza on Boxing Day , I set the dough on to prove in the morning (We're having pizza today as DS wants to try making a stuffed crust)

Except for DS we're vegetarian (DS and the cats have chicken just plain roasted ) any vegetables left get made into soup .
So really we don't have leftovers .

Your toast , scrambled egg and bacon sounds ideal . add some brown sauce/ketchup , nice coffee/tea and fresh orange .
Sausages can go in the oven

Your guests will be delighted with a simpler but delicious breakfast and don''t forget its the company and relaxing that counts .

Jus-Roll do ready to bake pastries (but the Cinnamon Swirls has a new recipe they're more like buns than passtries ) , some mini muffins ? Nigella Christmas Muffins are popular .

Enjoy it , don't complicate

You can buy and freeze the bread , bacon, sausages (if you want them) and the muffins .
Even milk freezes .

French toast & selection of fruit, maple syrup, bacon, scrambled eggs. Help yourself.

Bubble 'n Squeak using leftovers from The Dinner, with fried eggs on top.

This! 😁

It is what we always had as kids and I still love it.
Whenever we have Sunday lunch, I always make far too much so I can have B&S for the next 2-3 days.
OH is not a fan so all the more for me!

Trifle.

Pancakes! The American style. Cook ahead and freeze. Then just oven from frozen. Serve with maple syrup, fruit, whipped cream and streaky bacon if you want to be very authentic

IsabelleSE19 · 08/10/2023 14:23

We always do a big cooked brunch of eggs and bacon etc in the mid-late morning, then I can get away with not catering two meals of breakfast and lunch! If people want to eat earlier they can graze on whatever we have in. We usually still have Nigella's Christmas Morning Muffins kicking around after the previous day!

If I’m honest I start in the leftovers - I love a gammon, Turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce sandwich any time or a cup of tea with chocs or crackers and cheese from the leftover cheese board.
But, if I had guests I would go for pancakes with berries and yoghurt or pancakes with bacon and maple syrup with a fruit salad on the side

Floralovesflowers · 08/10/2023 14:26

Full english cooked by dh - a tradition I accidentally started about 20 years ago which my adult dc still love and now the grandchildren too.

Generally we have family, sometimes friends on Boxing Day & it works really well (more of a brunch really). A walk usually follows said brunch then home & a nap. No further cooking takes place that day!

Crumpets with dry fried raspberries and blueberries with cinnamon powder, topped with full fat thick Greek yogurt or crème fraiche (thanks to hairy bikers for this)

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 08/10/2023 14:39

Turkey and stuffing sandwiches here! I wouldn't serve those to guests though.

My husband makes a huge stack of waffles and we put them on the table with maple syrup, crispy bacon, blueberries, Greek yogurt and compote so that everyone can choose their topping.

TweedTart · 08/10/2023 14:46

Bubble & Squeak, leftover ham & eggs.

Abfab63 · 08/10/2023 14:50

Fried ham and eggs!

SeaToSki · 08/10/2023 14:51

If you dont have much prep time between coming back from holiday and everyone arriving, I would suggest planning every meal out ahead of time and using as many make ahead and freeze options as possible. I hope you have enough freezer space!

I would look at breakfast casseroles as they freeze well. Then plan a delivery of fresh produce, dairy and bread as soon as you get home. Also leave the house guest ready before you go on holiday so you dont come back to making up beds and trying to find towels etc.
I hope you are also spreading the load a little. There is no reason why a guest cant come with food and a plan to make a specific meal. Just make sure you let them know how much fridge space you can let them have (or if they need to bring a cooler to keep the food fresh in)

Bubble & Squeak, leftover ham & eggs.

Literally this. I do a ham on Christmas Eve and we have a full dinner on the day, and tbh my favourite meal of all of them is the bubble and squeak for brunch on Boxing Day 😁
