@Agnorant those air plants are fab.. do you have them? If so would love to know how big they are and if they're easy to keep alive Smile

I don’t have them, but I’m buying them for my adult daughter for Christmas. From what I’ve read they’re easy to keep alive, fingers crossed! 🤞🏼

@onlyatchristmastime Im genuinely intrigued as to how you find a contribution to any reputable charity as being rude and judgemental? Who would be feeling judged? The recipient? I can kind of see your point if other adult family members were given something they specifically wanted, and “her” gift was transferred to a charity gift, however, as a grown adult that can buy myself absolutely anything I want I would personally be very happy for the money to go where it will needed. I totally agree with you that there are many “charities” that are anything but charitable but there are so many options that don’t necessarily involve handing over money.

I guess I love this idea because I have been gifted this way and I thought it was a brilliant idea! In my case, however, it was a Toy Drive for disadvantaged children and the toys were bought by my family member and handed over to so not specifically money being transferred.

Its not for everyone and that’s absolutely fine 😁

I know I’m the minority but I love a fancy large candle, must be beautiful not Yankee or anything like that. I also would love a large chocolate hamper! I’m a bit older but I’d of still liked these things at 30!

Oh you're good!!

Neice is sorted and so is daughter in law!

Thank you so much x

Curious to know what you got them in the end?

Wildhorses2244 · 07/10/2023 17:08

If she has plenty of her own money, then something consumable is the way forward. Really good champagne? Or a really decent vintage bottle of wine? Or a small hamper with a couple of interesting luxury foods in that she would love but not buy herself.

I love books as gifts for people who are well off. The gift isn’t in the book but in the choosing of something entertaining or interesting, sharing your taste.

Charity gifts are good too, alongside a small matching token. Chocolate alongside support for coco growers? A book with a books for schools initiative? A favourite food alongside a food bank donation? Etc

I have a few women to buy for.. so far I've bought a heated throw, a flower subscription, and White Company bits.

Have also ordered the air plants for me 😬

Make me a really good lemon drizzle cake - I don't like xmas cake.

Or one year, someone bought me some beautiful hand made glass xmas decorations. Small but very pretty and individual. 😊

Emmmmz9 · 07/10/2023 18:13

@Houseplanter have the airplants on my daughter’s list but I so want them for myself!

Yes to the lemon drizzle cake [yum]
I am in the same position (but a good deal older than 30) - I would hate a food hamper as I am a fussy eater, but I love a decent candle, a voucher for a treatment such as a facial or massage would also be a popular choice or a nice bottle of wine (not necessarily expensive)

MaryGreenhill · 07/10/2023 18:21

A Pair of Uggs

ApocalypseNowt · 07/10/2023 18:22

I got my friend a 3 month cheese subscription and a 3 month book subscription so she could read & eat cheese (which, let's face it, is the ultimate life goal).

MaryGreenhill · 07/10/2023 18:23

Or a new pair of New Balance trainers

AuntieStella · 07/10/2023 18:25

Something you have made or baked yourself

Bottle/s of the good version of her favourite tipple

Bottle of really good olive oil (I don't mean the flavoured stuff, I mean the single posh estate stuff). Ditto aged balsamic vinegar

A whole cheese or a cheese hamper

Agnorant · 07/10/2023 18:25

The one and best thing I’ve bought for several are the Turtle doves cashmere gloves. Especially for those sitting still working on their computer or just have cold hands. They truly are great and so soft. I cannot recommend them enough.

GlacindaTheTroll · 07/10/2023 18:27

Go to your nearest independent bookshop and describe her. See what they recommend.

Or a book subscription

Houseplanter · 07/10/2023 18:36

Will def update about the air plants!

Voucher for a creative workshop (if she's into that sort of thing).

SunshineDaisiesButterMellowxx · 07/10/2023 19:13

A vintage toy from my childhood. There was a doll i had, can't remember what it was called but she had long blond hair and a tiny heart under her eye, she came with this brush thingy that you filled with hot water and the metal on it would get hot and change her hair colour, ive searched for her and cant find the exact doll, so if i had everything that i could buy already and somebody bought me that very doll, i think id actually piss my pants. Would be my best present ever!!!

HolidayHappy123 · 07/10/2023 19:54

Dyptique rose diffuser

@PrudeyTwoShoes just beat me to it 😁

NancyJoan · 07/10/2023 19:57

Everyman membership, Diptyque candle, voucher for a manicure.

erinaceus · 07/10/2023 19:58

A little thoughtful thing as a memento, plus a donation to a charity of cause close to her heart.
