Christmas Present Idea Dump (ADULTS)!

LoverOfSushi · 29/09/2023 13:06

Hi everyone.

I know there are threads that go on RE Christmas present ideas, but personally I find it hard to skim through these to get ideas (as it descends into chat IMO). I also think it would be good to have a thread for only adult present ideas/ deals.

I would love for this thread to only have links and descriptions posted so its easier to scroll through and find good ideas (no comments)Grin

I'll go first - here are some of my ideas already:
Chillys bottle currently £4 off
Big bobble hats (not on offer but very cool idea IMO)
Xmas bauble with family faces in
Powder (fire safe) candle
(not linked) but portable chargers are handy to have
These Lulu lemon mens boxers which I bought for my partner to do sport and he absolutely swears by them
Adult lego - specifically linked this one as I think it's incredibleGrin

Any reciprocated ideas/help hugely appreciated 🙏

EDIT: please don't comment to follow the thread but instead click 'watch thread'

@stayathomer would you say any of the Susie Dent books would be suitable for a 12 year old who loves writing? I’ve just had a quick look at them and they sound amazing, I can’t believe I’ve never heard of them before.

Loulouli · 01/10/2023 09:51

Can I ask the hive mind for your views. Is this a good price or do you think it is worth waiting for Black Friday?

VouisLuitton · 01/10/2023 09:59

@Loulouli I think they will be even cheaper on Black Friday. However, last time they were on sale a few months ago I missed out on getting one as they were out of stock within a couple of days. So I have ordered one now at this cheaper price. Still waiting for it to arrive in store after a week so I’m guessing stock may still be low.

@clpsmum not all adults are "capable of buying what they need though" - financial reasons, access to shops etc.

Agreed!

Think you've mixed me up with a different poster! I absolutely but adults presents

A great stocking filler - these reusable face wipes (I haven't tried these specifically so can't vouch for quality)

Loving this. If there's a similar offer to fussy bit for wild deo would love it please
I got my sons Under amour heat socks for birthdays earlier in the year and they've washed so so well. £7.99 at sports direct or 2 packs for £13. Stocking bound they make an ideal gift as a bit nicer (for me anyway as we don't have lots of cash) than Slazenger but they love wearing them. I love a nice sock too as a gift. And would adore some odd balls knickers ?

Still not mastered the link. Does it not work on the app?

clpsmum · 01/10/2023 10:42

The book of you is another present that has always been well received when I've given it

Nonplusultra · 01/10/2023 10:45

Lego rental has blown my mind. That’s a fantastic concept. Wonder if I could convince ds to hire his out

Needmorelego · 01/10/2023 11:05

@clpsmumapologies - it was someone else replying to you 🙂
@43ontherocksporfavor you were the one who said it.
Do you only buy gifts to people who can afford to buy one back then? As I said - not all adults are "capable of buying what they need". If you have a relative who is on a limited income, can't get to any shops or doesn't have the means to buy online do you not buy them a gift?
Cos that's quite mean to be honest.

I have an idea but no link. I have often thought that a counter top ice cube maker would be a cool present for my whiskey drinking dh, but have never found one at a reasonable price - I can't afford to pay upwards of £100 unfortunately.

LoverOfSushi · 01/10/2023 11:16

Desperate attempt to keep this thread on topic and to not descent into debate

Cinema passes are great, especially to cool cinemas that do food and comfy seats too.
This chocolate box is great for anyone, but I gave this one year to a builder who loooved them
Sports equiptment, i.e. badminton/ tennis stuff...
Bought my mum a basket for her bike one year - much loved present
Walking maps, Camping stools, picnic blanket, compass for hikers/campers
And a hack (although not sure about legalities) - One of my friends gets a custom paint by numbers made using a famous painting.... He proudly displays an "Edward Cortes" in his living room!

@Bubblesatbathtime what about this one?

I would think 12 would probably be fine, some of it looked like it would take a bit of studying, as in not easy easy reading, but still understandable! I think I'd have liked it as a 12 year old (and I'm an author now!) I know you looked at them but maybe take a look at the look inside on Amazon-the other thing is she has more books than I thought so you'll definitely find something-oh and yay to your child year old writing, well done to them!!

Willow12345 · 01/10/2023 11:46

Just bought the adult Lego insect collection for my entomologist DD - thanks for the recommendation.

Studio have them for £99 and 20% off first order. That's where I got mine. Its used every day.

Georgieporgie29 · 01/10/2023 12:31

@stayathomer thank you so much, I’ll have a look at that on Amazon. She wants to be an author too so I’m hoping these will help with that dream for a while.

Yes! I have them on now (horrible excema on my hands). I’m not in the UK but I read about them on MN and ordered grey ones. Then I had to order for my mum, dd and ds. They are really nice.

I concur - I bought them for all of us last year and they’re brilliant

cobden28 · 01/10/2023 14:39

My elderly Mum has Alhzeimers and loves flowers, so I arrange a bouqet from Interflora for her at birthdays and Christmas. She's diabetic so anything edible is a no-no.

For my adult daughter, I ask her a couple of months in advance what she would like for Christmas but make it clear I have a budget for Christmas presents. She works from home on a computer-based job so I generally ask what she'd like in particular from her Amazon wishlist and order it online for delivery direct to her.

villanova · 01/10/2023 14:49

I know they always get mentioned on threads, but I'd like to recommend again the Swiss Card as a very practical, easy to carry alternative to a penknife, or for notes/ sewing repairs/ DIY on the go, or the much cheaper wallet cards, which you can get for a variety of functions.

Any ideas for gifts for Dads? He has cancer so can’t drink anymore due to his meds (previously would have got him a beer subscription) and can’t travel too far. Into rugby but doesn’t have the patience to read any sports personality biographies for example. Quite crap with technology, but is into cooking?
He does have a “beer shed” that has a pool table and likes spending time in there?

Bubblesatbathtime · 01/10/2023 16:25

Thank you @LoverOfSushi and @Notherereally1 for the ice machine recommendations- I will check them both out.
