Thanks everyone so much fir the ideas.
@Twonka we do it with www.plan.ie
I like them as they're not religious and very much about girls and female equality.

@Saunaandsteam we aren't allowed to send seeds unfortunately.

Thanks @evtheria some ideas I would never have though of.

@sorryiasked that's so clever. I'll have to check if they are allowed. Her uncle has to translate out letters so I'm not sure how traditional they are.

DD (9) would like a sewing machine for xmas. Could I please have some recommendations for a child friendly sewing machine? Xx

I’m not sure what your budget is but this seems a decent machine. It’s suitable for a beginner and made for John Lewis by Janome a v reputable sewing machine maker.

Can I strongly recommend going for a normal, but simple beginner’s machine and not a “child’s/toy” one. The latter will never yield good results and by 9 it’s better for her to be taught to use one safely and able to actually make things effectively, and you risk putting her off for life if things don’t work well.

I had a refurbished Singer at that age and have never needed another machine. The JL one linked above looks to review well, and the Singer outlet website has all kinds of deals too.

Tesco having another 25% off soon - maybe 2/3 weeks?
Also starting to have 50% off specific areas clothing wise with clubcard, I know men’s underwear and socks are definitely one of them and wouldn’t be surprised if they did it off all nightwear etc.
I work for them.

Thank you- please can you tell us when the 25% off is on?! 😊

Novacandy · 21/09/2023 22:21

@Ginann yes, I’ll post on here when I know dates 100% :)

Ginann · 21/09/2023 22:29

@Ehunt1 oh typical I missed it!

Yes I'm also hoping for the Tu discount soon.

Ginann · 21/09/2023 22:29

@Novacandy sounds like I just missed one too 🙈

I bought this for my 10 year old. Very good starter model. As pp said previously, don’t buy a kiddy machine, it’s a false economy.

I have a high spec Brother machine and a lot of the feet/bobbins fit on it too.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 21/09/2023 23:58

I use that John Lewis machine, it’s excellent, the only thing that it can’t cope with is thick fabrics, so a thick heavy denim for example. Janome customer services are super helpful too (I wanted a different foot plate for invisible zips and John Lewis were useless so I went direct). It’s fine for a 9 year old too.

Do Dunelm ever do discount codes? Ds3 (17) is complaining of feeling cold at night. He doesn’t want an Oodie but I think he might like a teddy fleece all-in-one and bedding.

BastardtheCat · 22/09/2023 05:25

@Threeboysadogandacat Tesco are selling SilentNight Teddy bedding at half price at the moment in-store for Clubcard members. The colours are limited to a navy, a biscuity colour and a grey style tartan, if I remember rightly.

They're going quickly though.

Hi are the cheapest nomination charms £22?

My mum bought my dd13 a bracelet and two charms one for her birthday.

She is getting dd11 a bracelet plus both a charm each for Christmas.

I know they are cheaper than Pandora but they really don't look worth the money and I wondered if I could save my mum some money.

The BLC discount which my mum and husband have doesn't work.

Are there ever any offers? Anyone tried the cheap fake ones?

Thanks.

I wanted to get my daughter a spa day for Christmas gift (trying not to buy too much ‘stuff’ as clutter is horrendous in the house! Anyone seen anything suitable for 13 year old? I know most spas are over 16 or 17 but surely there must be something out there. We are north west but happy to travel to make a night/weekend of it x

I’m north west too and I can’t think of anywhere that would allow under 16s except perhaps in the pool. Would a night away in a hotel and some vouchers for hair and nail places and somewhere nice for lunch do maybe? My son would enjoy that!

Darkbutstarrynight · 22/09/2023 09:26

Has anyone any thoughts on which of the cheaper coffee machines is better to use with Costa coffee pods please? Eg tassimo, dulce gusto or nespresso I suppose. Plan would be we would buy the machine but DD will the pods moving on as a way of actually saving money on the actual Costas she buys!

She could use centre parcs spas from the age of 14, is her birthday anywhere near?

ProseccoandPizza · 22/09/2023 09:35

Hotels etc don’t allow under 16’s in spa areas due to insurance but you may be above to book a room with a spa bath. I’m in Wales but have stayed in a few ‘party’ type rooms ie 3 double beds with large spa baths.

I use my Tassimo all the time, although I actually prefer the Kenco pods to the Costa ones. I was a bit worried when I bought it that it'd be a bit of a dust gatherer but I've had loads of use out of it.

The Victoria's Secret sale is on with up to 50% off. I just got my DD16 a lovely nightwear cami for £8 down from £29 (which is much more than 50% surely...? Anyway, not complaining!)
