What food did you buy this Christmas that you liked/disliked?

Liked:
Morrisons turkey joint with stuffing - very nice and the right amount
Tesco veg - all fine

Disliked:
Tesco finest Belgian chocolate log - sweet and dry
Tesco finest small Christmas pudding - too many nuts
Tesco pate with apple chutney - nothing special
Tesco party food eg sausage rolls, spring rolls - very basic, wouldn’t buy again

I abso love florentines my fave

Oh another miss! We bought a savoury pastry christmas tree thingy. Dreadful. Like chewing on cardboard.

Hit - Tesco organic turkey crown. Tasty, plenty to eat and left overs, and good value I thought.

Hits from Sainsbury’s for me -
Taste the difference clementine Yule log
Taste the difference cherry rum and coconut mince pies
Turkey crown, was only £9 for a small one and was really tasty!

Misses, only one which was chorizo pigs in blankets (M&S I think?) - just a bit weird!

M&S turkey crown…..tough as old boots, as well as being over priced, but their chocolate pine cone puddings were glorious

I bought 4 mini Lemon Panatonne from HomeSense/TKMaxx.
Cannot remenber the brand , but they were about four slices worth so enough for one serving , bit miserly on the lemon but I had some lemon curd .

With the big ones they get dry and there;s nowhere to put them .
Deffo a buy for next year .

Sainsbury's mince pies with brandy in, really lovely.
Dambuster Mature Cheddar cheese
Cheddar cheese and smoked paprika mini cheddars
Butchers turkey and pigs in blankets, so much nicer than M&S which is where we usually buy from.
Tesco party food - pigs & blankets in mini Yorkshire puddings, American snack selection, loaded potato skins, chicken tikka samosas.
Sainsbury's taste the difference king prawns - best I've had.

Disliked:
Aldi Yule log - icing on it was so sweet it was like eating pure sugar.
Sainsbury's pigs in blanket flavoured crisps - awful.

Liked sesame breadsticks, didn't like savory eggs.

Miss:
M&S mini cottage pies (party food) - just awful. Worse than the worst school dinner you have ever eaten.

Tesco duck spring rolls - No sign of a duck and texture was greasy and mushy.

Fresh white potatoes (M&S) - ‘proudly’ on display with the other Christmas veg. Made for grim, sweet tasting roast potatoes. Looked at bag and the variety was ‘Melody’. A variety for people who hate roast potatoes!

Meh:
M&S Pizza Gyozas (party food) - average taste. Nothing special.

An add to the hit list tonight - M&S Aberdeen Angus Sirloin of Beef with Porcini Butter

Very very nice 😋😋😋 although no way it would feed 8! 4 adults, 5 at most.

Just the gammon left to try later this week.

Waitrose Free range unsmoked gammon joint, it was absolutely fantastic and will be a staple in our house now at christmas. Not too salty but beautiful. Highly recommend!

@dutysuite , I hope you meant sweet chestnuts! Horse chestnuts are aka conkers, and in our local park people are asked to leave them for the deer.

Yes an error, I always do it! 🤯 Definitely the sweet version…roasted. 😂

I love lebkuchen and treated myself to the posh M&S ones. Wish I hadn't bothered. £5 for 6 tasteless, dry biscuits. We ended up going and buying some of the cheap packets from Tesco which were delicious.

Lidl's Lebkuchen are really good.

Hotel Chocolat H box - so revolting I left them in the kitchen only for someone else to have tried one and also spat it straight out into a bowl. DD most likely culprit

M and s honey and mustard parsnips , stringy - poor quality

Hit
M&S extra thick double cream - other supermarkets' versions were thinner than they used to be, M&S's was as good as before
M&S chestnuts - bigger than other supermarkets' chestnuts

Miss
Lidl parsnips - bought on Christmas Ev, went off on Boxing Day and had to be put in the compost caddy. In contrast, M&S ones still going strong today. Both stored correctly (inside a paper bag in a cool place).

M&S mince pies are the very best! 😋

To be fair I will eat any mince pie, I suspect my body has now become 95% mince pie 😂

I see your mince pie body and raise you my body, which is now basically a wheel of cheese!

Another fan of m&s mince pies , I usually buy mr Kipling but will stay with m&s from now on
