Liked:
Morrisons turkey joint with stuffing - very nice and the right amount
Tesco veg - all fine

Disliked:
Tesco finest Belgian chocolate log - sweet and dry
Tesco finest small Christmas pudding - too many nuts
Tesco pate with apple chutney - nothing special
Tesco party food eg sausage rolls, spring rolls - very basic, wouldn’t buy again

Hits: Tesco breaded cheese selection and potato-wrapped prawns from their chilled party food. Treeselets - they never miss. Pistachio Lindor.
Miss: Waitrose yule log. Cake was a bit dry, icing was too hard. I always make my own and regret being too lazy to do so this year.

Not the point of the thread but I made a yule log this year and wasn't happy with it. Do you have any tips or a recipe you could share @bluechameleon for what you usually do

Impressed with coop Christmas pudding. Coop Christmas chocolate nutty star (frozen) was lovely

Liked: Morrisons gammon joint, Aldi aged Red Leicester in red wax coating, Lidl cinnamon coated almonds, Mackies Boxing Day curry crisps.
So-so: Sainsburys fresh turkey, Taste of Game crisps.
Disliked: Victoria chocolate biscuits ( but won them in a raffle rather than buying).

I agree on the Victoria biscuits but then I hate them all year round. DH and mother buy them regularly and I really find them disappointing

Twilight7777 · 26/12/2022 21:09

And forgot to add coop munchy snacks in the little bag, was a nice alternative to popcorn, hope they do it next year.

M&S turkey crown, really tough and crazy expensive

Same. Surprisingly horrid 🙁

Footiecahootie · 26/12/2022 21:11

M&S sticky toffee pudding was delicious, best I’ve ever tasted.

StressedToTheMaxxx · 26/12/2022 21:12

M&S scallop and chorizo skewers, not very nice at all.

M&S chocolate pine cones - delicious!

TakeYourFinalPosition · 26/12/2022 21:13

We had a Waitrose Entertaining leg of lamb, which was lovely and MASSIVE. And an M&S Quick Cook turkey crown, which was delicious and really tender. We only got it on Friday. It was reduced; and probably the nicest turkey I’ve ever eaten. Really moist and lovely! Sounds like we might have dodged a bullet with that?!

LaBelleSauvage123 · 26/12/2022 21:14

Ooh chocolate pine cones!

trying29 · 26/12/2022 21:17

We got the Waitrose entertaining easy cook duck for the first time and it was delicious!

thismeansnothing · 26/12/2022 21:18

Hit :- Waitrose pigs in blankets (not fatty and decent meat. As DH said - they taste like they've actually seen a pig)
Waitrose 1 Madagascan vanilla custard. Tastes just like melted ice cream.
Iceland salted caramel dome dessert.

Miss :- cathedral city brie and cranberry bite that we got for the boxing day buffet
Aldi sausage roll "wotsists". Got them for DD really who's a sausage roll obsessive. But the just tasted of burnt.

Ellaone · 26/12/2022 21:18

M&S party food - the mini steak sandwiches and chicken Satays were delicious
M&S hassleback potatoes not so good

i made a cheesecake, I thought I had more sugar than what I actually had and no lemon either , still I made it thinking it wouldn’t be that great but it got guzzled with compliments so I’ll be changing to that recipe for future

bluechameleon · 26/12/2022 21:22

@TheHauntedPencilCase I use Delia's squidgy chocolate log recipe. It is very nice and also naturally gluten free which I need for one family member. I sometimes vary the filling - it is good with a layer of chestnut puree.

Disliked

M&S turkey crown was pretty awful for the ££ we paid as were the goose fat roast potatoes (needed more goose fat) wasn’t keen on the tesco finest stuffing and the Waitrose veg wasn’t amazing
asda pigs in blankets were awful

Liked

M&S root veg thing
Sprouts fried in butter
cheap aldi gammon joint was definitely the hit of the day
dh liked the aldi Black Forest gateau thing
M&S pine cones
homemade pigs in blankets with Waitrose essential sausages and streaky bacon (only made 10 someone ate the rest of the sausages looks at dh)

tensmumm · 26/12/2022 21:31

Heston 3-bird sausages, I didn't like them at all but the rest of the family did.

I missed the Waitrose parsnip stars, I look forward to them every year but couldn't find any this year.

Our other online deliveries came with food that was out of date on the 23rd and 24th, so absolutely bloody useless.

Floralnomad · 26/12/2022 21:33

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 26/12/2022 18:47

M and s berry delice.... lovely. Exactly what I was after, light but creamy etc.

I thought this was awful , as did our son , my husband has eaten it though .

hmmmintereting · 26/12/2022 21:34

M&S - party food; steak sandwich things, and potato skins were great.

Sainsbury's chicken gravy was nice.

M&S bread sauce (gluten free accidentally) wasn't great and pigs in blankets were awful.

PikachusSmarterBrother · 26/12/2022 21:35

M&S's Yule log is bloody lovely. I wonder whether they have any left.

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 26/12/2022 21:36

@Floralnomad

Why awful?

madamovaries · 26/12/2022 21:38

Ooh this thread has reminded me about those M&S chocolate pine cones. Might see if they have any on offer in the shops tomorrow. One of the most delicious things I've ever eaten!

dutysuite · 26/12/2022 21:39

M &S cooked gammon - tasteless

Tesco finest uncooked gammon - ok

Tesco horse chestnuts absolutely rancid

madamovaries · 26/12/2022 21:39

(My big hit was an M&S crackling chocolate log - with popping candy - which was phenomenal)

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 26/12/2022 21:41

@madamovaries can you say why.
It looked like chocolate "gloop" to me?

Doyouthinktheyknow · 26/12/2022 21:42

M&S pigs in blankets were very average
Their party food has been pretty good, a few substitutions but all tasty.
Iceland party food has been okay too.
M&S best ever trifle is gorgeous, I love it.
Aunt Bessie’s stuffing balls were crap but they were cheap!

bellac11 · 26/12/2022 21:44

Sainsburys bread sauce, horrible. Normally buy M+S but we were ill so got a deliverty from sainsburys.

Also their normal pigs in blankets not very nice but the specially selected ones were very good

Their orange and lemon smoked salmon was really good.

Their duck fat roast potatoes, horrible. Normally do my own but was too ill and this was a double punishment on top of the illness.
