Am I a miserable old bugger cus I bloody hate Christmas and everything about it . It's such a farce and anti climax I really don't know what people find to get excited over . The only time I enjoyed it was when my DD was a child and believed in Santa that was magical . Please tell me I'm not the only miserable bugger x

Bestcatmum · 26/12/2022 18:56

You're not. I detest it it. I live alone DS is grown up and on holiday this year and I just don't do it. No decorations, cards or anything else.
It's great. I spent the weekend doing my craft hobbies and relaxing. What a relief.

Nameneeded · 26/12/2022 19:24

Boxing Day is my favourite day of the year as it means the Christmas chaos is over and I can start to look forward to lighter evenings .

getmesomewater · 26/12/2022 19:25

DuchessOfDisco · 26/12/2022 19:30

I love it but the past 3 days are exhausting! Plus it’s all I’ve been thinking about and planning and organising since November, so as much as I absolutely love Christmas, I am also glad it’s over now. Time to focus on other things for a while.

it’s like looking forward to long hot, hazy days of summer and absolutely adoring the first few weeks, but eventually you hit that point of praying for a storm and being so joyful when one finally arrives. All good things get the the point of being ready to end, but know that it’s only a few months and you can love and look forward to them again

stargirl1701 · 26/12/2022 19:38

It's just begun, OP! It's only the second day of Christmas.

It sounds like you dislike the consumer Christmas. I heartily agree with you there. I try to have very little to do with it.

But, I do love this period of time. It's so relaxing. I'm sitting by the tree and the fire at this moment. Just about to pour another glass of wine and start a new book. Bliss!

Lovetotravel123 · 26/12/2022 19:43

Yes, the whole thing sucks and so whenever we can we go on holiday instead. Roll on Easter!

Wonnle · 26/12/2022 19:46

Another one with you

Boxing day is my birthday as well so it's all at once !

SteakChips · 26/12/2022 19:50

I'm so with you, normally my decs come down on Boxing Day but was hosting today... however come tomorrow back to normality lol.

NewMoonPhase · 26/12/2022 20:00

I get really excited about xmas every year... today after hosting 14 people, I'm exhausted, skint & feeling very fat and hormonal. Roll on spring!

Notplayingball · 26/12/2022 20:02

I am the same. Had enough of it. Wish everything was back to normal already. I agree with you OP.

chary · 26/12/2022 20:03

this is my fave bit, everything is done so it's relaxation & reenergising time.

LadyLolaRuben · 26/12/2022 20:10

Yes, I'm glad its over. Its too commercial these days. So many people spend months building themselves up for a big day to be disappointed. Its just a roast dinner with a few extra bits

Adviceneeded200 · 26/12/2022 20:11

I'm also glad it's over. Last Christmas holds sad memories for my family and this year was always going to be hard. We do tend to have quite traditional Christmasses with relatively little change, which also adds to the difficulty when someone dear isn't around.

Anyway, we got through it with quite a few (understandable) bumps and COVID thrown into the mix which went right through the whole family.

I now look forward to seeing 2022 out as fast as possible and to the lighter days coming a bit each day and, hopefully, another wonderful summer of warm weather.

Mine never went up 😂

hugoagogo · 26/12/2022 20:23

I am really glad it's over, so intrusive and stupid, my life has been on hold waiting for it to pass.

However I am not wishing winter away, I love winter with lovely dark cold nights.

Stockingholder · 26/12/2022 20:35

I'm glad it's over OP

lindyloo57 · 26/12/2022 21:03

I'm with you, loved it when my children were small, but now I can't wait till its all over.

TheOGCCL · 26/12/2022 21:14

I'm pretty neutral on the whole thing.

Sometimes I put up decorations, sometimes I don't. I can do without the presents for sure, that's just a study of rampant commercialism and I shudder at all the waste.

I think it's good to just do what you want and not get bogged down in all the expectation and pressure. Don't cook a turkey if you don't want, don't host twenty people if you don't want to, don't go overboard, don't get into debt.

But it's nice to have a break and I think winter in the UK would be very drab without it. I like looking at the Christmas lights, and carols, and a bit of time off.

imsureineverdo · 26/12/2022 21:18

I'm with you op. On to lighter days (literally).

userxx · 26/12/2022 21:22

I'm delighted it's over, it's been absolute shit this year.

HotChoxs · 26/12/2022 21:24

Lets just get past New Years and Valentines day before celebrating 😂

AnnieSnap · 26/12/2022 21:33

I don’t hate it (although I did for a number of years after my son became estranged). I don’t like it much though and I’m glad it’s over. I just want things to get back to normal, but that takes two weeks doesn’t it? I love spring and summer. Happily, some if my spring bulbs are already poking through the soil 🙂

TwoMonthsOff · 26/12/2022 21:39

I’m with you OP - now we have the relentless ‘sales’ brainwashing popping up as if people have not (wasted)spent enough or gone into debt already
