Weirdest thing you've wrapped up for your kids?

Or anyone really I suppose!

I've just wrapped up a massive (800g I think) bottle of Heinz ketchup for my kid! We've had to cut costs recently and have been trying various own brands (of which none come close to the real thing so far, according to DS) so I thought I'd treat him for Xmas. Don't worry he has some proper gifts too 😂

What's the oddest thing you've found yourself wrapping up?

A carrot.

Carrots are an everyday item in our house, but she insisted she wanted one for Christmas. Every year from age 9...

This year, jelly for 1 ds, poppadoms for the other one! Both hard to come by as we live abroad! Have also wrapped post-it notes in the past!

Exact same as you OP! Haha

A staple unpicker thingy. He worked in an office over the summer holidays and spent many an hour using one and claimed he loved it.

gerbo · 22/12/2022 20:46

A box of Cookie Crisp breakfast cereal. It's what they both choose when we're on our summer holiday abroad, as a treat. Thought it'd make a fun gift!

And a big box of Australian sweets/chocs/drinks for them to explore and share. Last Christmas we did Japanese sweets which went down a treat, as they hadn't a clue what they were trying. Plus it encouraged sharing and was good to see them laugh and eat together!

A shower wiper.
My 3 year old loves to put soap suds on the shower screen then clean the screen when he has a bath. He kept borrowing the one from the other bathroom (which has a shower but no bath) so for Christmas he is getting his very own wiper. He will probably enjoy it more than anything else.

A wedge of parmesan and a mini grater for a seven year old.

Now 10 years old she still uses the grater daily and remembers fondly having her very own parmesan.

We did exactly this for DD when she was about 10! She was obsessed with them.

Ah this reminds of the year I bought my brother "fire" for christmas when he was 14 or 15. I got him a fire steel and some stuff that turns the fire different colours. I think I also nicked one of my parents' logs and wrapped it up!

I come from a Scouting family, so this wasn't unusual in our house. I remember coming home from uni once and there was an axe in my bed!

WhoWants2Know · 22/12/2022 20:55

I did the ketchup thing once too, for a child who was slightly obsessed. Another time I wrapped up a jar of Polish Mayo after a running joke. And my favourite was a raw potato with googly eyes and a moustache drawn on. They all went down very well.

A rigger jigger. Twice.

Need to wrap one, plus a vintage wood and rubber toilet plunger!

Stressfordays · 22/12/2022 20:57

Mine have all got their own pack of blue tac this year as I'm sick to death of searching for it and finding it in their bedrooms 🤣
