'With all the trimmings'

I couldn't even type that without my teeth itching.

I'm sure they'll be plenty more...Smile

For me it's the name - they were bacon rolls when I was growing up (as opposed to a roll and bacon which is a bap type thing with bacon in it...). Pigs in blankets is an americanisation! Mind you, whatever you call them (bacon rolls, bacon rolls!) they are delicious 😋

They aren't bacon rolls, they are sausages wrapped in bacon and very nice they are too.

I'm off to google now if pigs in bacon are different in other regions. I like a bacon roll too mind you.

Twillow · 19/12/2022 13:21

Yes to hollibobs and christmas eve boxes - they can't wait 12 hours??

Mirabai · 19/12/2022 13:22

MagpiePi · 19/12/2022 07:32

Pigs in blankets

Yes.

donttalkaboutbookclub · 19/12/2022 13:22

For a very long time I thought that 'all the trimmings' meant some sort of fancy decoration on the plate that posh people had. I didn't realise it was just normal Christmas food.

Crazyinlove123 · 19/12/2022 13:24

It does knock me sick when people boast about how much they have spent/how many giftd have been purchased. There is only one reason to do this and it’s because you think people will be jealous

hosyyy · 19/12/2022 13:25

Numbat2022 · 19/12/2022 07:55

People who post photos of the 'piles of presents' their children have. Also applies to birthdays. It's terribly crass.

Adults who do this! There's one on my FB friends list that lays everything out on a table and takes pics. She's in her 30's.. with kids.

catsonahottinroof · 19/12/2022 13:25

Agree with 'has he been?' and many of the food ones already said, like 'traditional fayre'. I'm sure there must be more that I can't think of, but generally hate the 'sick of the sight of it' that people who put their decorations up in November/early December say on Boxing Day. Also people, generally women, who reel off long lists of what they 'have to do'. Most of it made up and completely unnecessary like making some craft items, or some specific foods. The only thing anyone has to do is provide enough food and drink if you've invited guests round!

Thank you for saying this. I call them 'chipolatas in bacon' and I don't think I ever ate one until I was a teenager.

Were they invented in the 1970s?

Here we go, first recipe 1957, popularised by Delia in the 90s.

My main one is the general hysteria people work themselves into over shops being closed on Christmas Day. It is absolutely obscene. I work in retail and this week is the absolute worst for it

Some of the key points to why this irks me so much-

  • repeatedly asking for the opening hours (it’s online and on the front door of the shop, on posters in store and signposted at the tills- it’s more effort to miss it than see it)
  • the ridiculous Christmas Eve rush where everyone has to be in the shop at the exact same time, frantically buying milk and loaves like there’s a famine coming. The shops are open on Boxing Day. It’s one day.
  • People who come in at 8pm on Christmas Eve and ask where all the turkeys/brussel sprouts etc are (they’ve long sold out by this point) then get arsey at staff because they were too disorganised to come earlier in the day
  • general rudeness from the general public at this time of year

And finally, my personal favourite. The stampede for the Christmas Eve final reductions. Absolutely no problem with people buying reduced goods but… the standing directly over staff, grabbing things out of their hands before they’ve even had a chance to set it down in the fridge, grabbing labels out of the printer, etc- it’s too much. Just stand back and wait patiently until the staff are done, then crack on.

I just wish people would realise that the staff are working flat out, they don’t get the same holidays off as a lot of folk, they don’t control the stock that comes in for Christmas and once it’s sold out, it’s sold out. We can’t magic up a Turkey out of thin air.

Nothing ever changes though.

Twixtmas - I have only started seeing the word this year and already it is giving me the rage.

Bleachmycloths · 19/12/2022 13:31

‘All the trimmings’ is a bit twee, I admit but not as bad as what our neighbour ( when I was a child) used to call them - guzzwiths 🤮🤮🤮
Translation - ‘ goes with’
She often used to talk in an exaggerated northern- ee-by-gum way.
Honestly, I wanted to give her a stinging slap across the face 😂

I thought it was a limited edition Christmas twix. I've just googled it and I'm very disappointed.

hosyyy · 19/12/2022 13:33

Mine personally is the FB snaps with the "merry Christmas from our house to yours"

Or anything where kids are filmed receiving gifts that make them cry.

Gaaah

Menopants · 19/12/2022 07:37

‘X many sleeps’ uttered by adults to adults
anything about ‘making traditions’
elf on the shelf
making ridiculous amounts of work for yourself and being a martyr

'Making memories' though the be fair that's a year round no-no for me, especially if it's for 'our little family', pass the sick bag please!

JudgeJ · 19/12/2022 13:42

QS90 · 19/12/2022 08:01

Christmas jumpers. I don't mind things which are gaudy, but these always seem to be itchy and ugly to boot. And if you don't own one, people think you're being a grump. I AM A GRUMP!!

You're not a grump, you're hampered with good taste, like me! As I loathe red in any way shape or form, it was always going to be a no no.

Bleachmycloths · 19/12/2022 13:44

LindaEllen · 19/12/2022 12:16

I wasn't the person who posted this, but I can guarantee they don't mean people who mention loved ones occasionally.

I have a family on Facebook who lost someone last April (not even THIS April, so it's not the first Christmas) and the mum of the family posts 'on this day's EVERY.SINGLE.DAY of the family member. As if that wasn't bad enough, it's also reposted by each of the three daughters, and interspersed with photos from when they visit the grave - which is at least twice a week. Why post every time you visit the grave? It's not changed.

I agree. When I visit family graves I feel reflective, a bit sad but glad that I’m there to pay my respects, tidy the grave, leave a Xmas wreath. Most people are probably the same.
But post a PHOTO! Who the hell does that? Who do they think actually wants to see it? Sounds mawkish and insincere and so far up their own a*s.

Stravaig · 19/12/2022 13:44

Christmas anything in October.
Christmas anything in November.
Advent boxes.
Christmas Eve boxes.
Comparing how many bin bags of presents per child.
Christmas pyjamas.
Christmas bedlinen.
Christmas crockery sets.

Children with a functioning brain who still believe in Santa Claus and parents who think that's a desirable thing.

Any and all Christmas music forced upon me in places I have to be.

The rampant greed and consumerism sickens me. No genuine Christianity anywhere.

Then there's the hypocrisy and racism which forces one supposed faith tradition on all of us in every public space for two entire months when there would be a horrific backlash were it any other faith or cultural tradition.

Just for starters. 🤮😡😭🤣

JudgeJ · 19/12/2022 13:44

QS90 · 19/12/2022 08:05

Oh and Christmas markets! The consumerism. But also most things on them seem just to be expensive clutter, and if you go anywhere near one of them, the stall holders look at you hopefully and it's really awkward 😬😱

I only go to Christmas Markets in Germany, they smell better and you can get big slices of fresh pineapple encased in dark chocolate and also bowls of creamy very garlicy mushrooms. Hungry now!

OooScotland · 19/12/2022 13:45

“Making memories” 😬

JudgeJ · 19/12/2022 13:47

MagpiePi · 19/12/2022 08:20

Christmas being ‘ruined’ because plans have to be changed slightly.

Especially if your MIL makes a microscopic 'wrong' look in your direction, it's totally acceptable for your DM to do so though.

lollipoprainbow · 19/12/2022 13:47

@Stravaig Jesus Christ lighten up

Greeneyegirl · 19/12/2022 13:47

People who say "Santa". Its Father Christmas. Worse is that children say "Santa" with an American accent now.

Hibye23289 · 19/12/2022 13:49

Hahaha I came here to say all the trimmings

Lozzybear · 19/12/2022 13:50

“I need it by Christmas”….why the fuck do you need it by Christmas…so you can finish work on 22/23 knowing that it’s sat on your desk for when you get back…meanwhile I am bloody exhausted by Christmas Eve after a throughly miserable couple of weeks where I get to spend no time with my family. Changed jobs this year and it’s still the same 😡

MarigoldPetals · 19/12/2022 13:51

Excessive mention of family members who have died and how it's extra sad at Christmas
You are being unkind here. Try thinking how they might feel. It IS extra sad at Christmas.
