Just planning for the week ahead, and thinking i might go mid week and get everything to avoid the masses, when is everyone going for their fresh stuff?

I've got a delivery booked for 23rd morning, then whatever doesn't turn up I'll go Christmas Eve on the way back from visiting family.. I've got most bits already in our garage so I'm not massively relying on anything.

CointreauVersial · 18/12/2022 17:30

Tesco online delivery booked for Thursday (22nd). Gives me time to top up with a few items if required.

MissyB1 · 18/12/2022 17:31

I did a lot of it today. Last minute bits will be on Friday. I don’t have deliveries as I do most of my shopping at Aldi.

Manifest828 · 18/12/2022 17:34

Normally Xmas Eve. I'd get up at 6 to go to the markets so by lunchtime I'm all done and I can start prepping for the big day 😂

Saucery · 18/12/2022 17:36

Wednesday. I wasn’t quick off the mark for Waitrose click and collect slots so couldn’t get Thurs as I wanted. The dates are usually really good though, so I’m not too bothered.

Binfire · 18/12/2022 17:38

I’ve got a lot of the stuff I can buy ahead and could rustle up a decent Christmas dinner without an extra shop, but will pop out maybe Thursday or Friday to get whatever else we need. I’m dreading it though, there were lots of gaps on the shelves today in Aldi and the fresh meat/ cheese section was absolutely rammed, I couldn’t get anywhere near and came away without a lot of stuff we needed.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 18/12/2022 17:40

Friday. It's pretty much just potatoes/ veg and any fresh party food, everything else has already been bought. Turkey and beef have been in the freezer for weeks

glamourousindierockandroll · 18/12/2022 17:42

I'll go Wednesday or Thursday as early as I can. I expect I'll end up at more than one but either way i'd like to be home by 9am.

mondaytosunday · 18/12/2022 17:43

I've got a click and collect for Friday. I ordered it so long ago I barely remember what's in it and keep checking. I'll probably have to go afterwards as I suddenly remember something or want to add quantities, or the Saturday. I know I've ordered the main bits, it's missing out the day to day things I need outside of the Christmas and Boxing Day meals that I may have missed.

TearsNReindeers · 18/12/2022 17:44

First thing on the 23rd. I’m not cooking this year, so don’t need a Turkey, but going to get some nice bits - cheese, desserts etc.

onsiemumsie · 18/12/2022 17:44

23rd.

I totted up that all the trimmings, gravy, sauces and pudding etc. come to £20... but the turkey is £30 for a nice-ish one from M&S. Literally more than everything else! Very tempted to just buy a chicken.

Twizbe · 18/12/2022 17:46

I'm going Thursday. Supermarket opens at 6am and I'm hoping to get there soon after

bloodywhitecat · 18/12/2022 17:54

Still trying to figure it out, I have a child in a wheelchair who cannot sit in a supermarket trolley so unless I can find a willing volunteer to help me we won't be doing one. By the time the little one came to live with me all the delivery and click and collect slots had gone and I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving them with someone who didn't have the skills to look after them so I need to go shopping with a friend this year.

Inextremis · 18/12/2022 17:56

Meat, fish and cheese online orders arrive on the 22nd. Tesco click'n collect 23rd for fresh veg etc. That leaves the 24th for grabbing anything I've forgotten.

stopringingme · 18/12/2022 18:08

@bloodywhitecat

I keep getting texts from ocado saying they have Christmas delivery slots available, I have just looked and my local depot has quite a few even on Thursday, so maybe worth a look.

Waitrose which is local to me also had some and Morrisons too.

slavetothekittens · 18/12/2022 18:08

Ocado Xmas order coming Thursday. Don't think I've forgotten anything, if I have, I'll nip out Friday or Christmas Eve.

Slimjimtobe · 18/12/2022 18:12

Will go out Friday and get all (likely from Aldi Turkey and ham fresh etc )
usually do this and normally it’s very well stocked

Dreamwhisper · 18/12/2022 18:13

Is Wednesday too early to buy a fresh turkey?

Mrsfussypants1 · 18/12/2022 18:13

I've been picking bits up as I see them when I'm shopping, only if they have a good best before date for after Christmas. Stuff like cheeses, pates, m&s fresh gravy and cranberry sauce. Today's shopping I picked up good bacon and asda edible millionaire's bowl. I'll be ticking a few more fresh bits of my list tomorrow and getting the rest on Thurs before I collect the m&s food to order up which is mainly meat. I'm a bit more organised than usual this year, but bound to forget something.

Dacadactyl · 18/12/2022 18:15

Collecting our food order on Friday evening. Will pick up anything else fresh that we haven't already ordered on that day too.

I have a lot of stuff already in. All the booze, drinks, desserts, anything frozen etc. Bought all of that on my day off last weds.

@bloodywhitecat I have a child in a wheelchair and use the SEN trolleys at the supermarket - basically a much bigger seat with proper straps for big children - upto 50 kg I believe. You might have to search around to find them (or ask someone) because they aren't always with the regular trolleys.

Iknowhim · 18/12/2022 18:20

Got all the booze and anything that won't ton

Delivery booked for 21st for cheese, crisps, soft drinks, mixers etc
Will get fresh veg etc after work on Friday.
Picking up meat and fresh bread on Xmas eve. Might also do a yellow sticker hunt late afternoon.

Iknowhim · 18/12/2022 18:21

Sorry pressed send. Got all food that won't go off.

HeyMicky · 18/12/2022 18:21

Very early on the 23rd. But the frozen puddings are already done, wine is done, hard to find ingredients like chestnuts and quince paste already bought, and meat and cheese arriving later this week.

PollyEsther · 18/12/2022 18:25

Online shop booked for Thursday. Will nip to M&S to get fresh baguette on Christmas Eve, and anything else that isn't delivered. I find it pretty quiet on Christmas Eve most years because people avoid... Still sending DH rather than going myself though Xmas Grin
