Missed Royal Mail's last posting date 1st class: WWYD?

For various reasons, we haven't posted our cards yet or even written them and the last recommended date has gone.
It would take three hours or so but we don't have time tonight for the 9am collection anyway so the next collection would be Tuesday 9am. We have the 1st class stamps.

Would you take a risk and post them tomorrow or would you email an image instead?

3 hours?
How many are you writing?
Don't think we're going to bother sending any now

Is there not an alternative post box with a later collection time? e.g.my local supermarkets seem to have a postbox that has a 4pm collection

Sunshineandrainbow · 18/12/2022 17:24

Is there a later collection near you tomorrow?

Swissnotswiss · 18/12/2022 17:24

Send them anyway or forget about it this year. Nobody wants an email!

uncomplicatedish · 18/12/2022 17:25

Just send them anyway - blame the strikes if they arrive after Christmas!

bellac11 · 18/12/2022 17:27

I didnt realise the posting date had gone, theres still a whole week yet surely?

Last posting date for 1st class was Friday
There are strikes on 23rd and 24th

crimbocountdown · 18/12/2022 17:29

I think this is one of the years you've got a get out of jail free card here because you can claim you sent them and then just blame the Royal Mail given its well publicised about the awful delays at the moment 😀

Wauden · 18/12/2022 17:29

The date was back then because of the backlogs, I guess.

Even if you posted them today, I doubt they would get there on time. I posted mine, First Class, 10 days ago, and none of them have arrived yet. I suspect they are sitting in a Royal Mail backlog somewhere.

Post them whenever you can, and they will arrive eventually.

ellerman · 18/12/2022 17:30

I love to hear from friends regardless of when the card arrives. It's a season is Christmas, that's my philosophy.

gogohmm · 18/12/2022 17:30

Just do as many as you can today and post writing the remaining ones tomorrow

fedupofthiscoldffs · 18/12/2022 17:32

I wouldn't bother posting them now. There's no point in getting cards this late anyway. People like them up for a few weeks leading up to Xmas (well I do anyway)
People won't be expecting them anymore

Zosime · 18/12/2022 17:35

Post them. People can still display them after Christmas (I leave mine up until Twelfth Night). Most Christmas cards say '....and a Happy New Year, don't they, so they can equally be taken for New Year cards.

A couple of people have sent me e-cards this year, but I'd rather have a late actual card that I can display and see whenever I'm in my living room than an e-card that's on time.

TheMadGardener · 18/12/2022 17:38

Just send them. I always receive a few late cards after Xmas day but that's better than not getting them at all.

OrigamiOwls · 18/12/2022 17:51

I'd just post them tomorrow, people will expect a delay.
I posted mine on the 3rd of Dec and only one has arrived so far, so posting dates don't really seem to mean much.

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 18/12/2022 17:53

I am starting mine after supper. I will walk to the post box tonight though. Yes they will be late but the older relatives will get the photo of the kids late, they'll cope

Wetblanket78 · 18/12/2022 17:54

Just send them a merry Christmas message and say you are making a charity donation instead.

yahpahha · 18/12/2022 17:55

Although it says 9am on the box, pretty much no box will be emptied before 10am at the earliest so I would just put them in

Ramble0n · 18/12/2022 17:55

Send them anyway. The post is all over the place.

Snowmansnose · 18/12/2022 17:55

Give yourselves a break and don’t bother this year. I stopped sending Christmas cards a few years ago and it’s a big relief knowing it’s one less thing to do. With the price of stamps going up I can’t see Christmas cards carrying on for the majority of people.

MenaiMna · 18/12/2022 17:59

There are 12 days of Christmas- as long as it gets there by epiphany you're good!

wtfisgoingonhere21 · 18/12/2022 18:02

Just had this conversation with my dm

She's been sitting on her cards for weeks and not done them but then moaned today that she's missed last date.

I just reminded her that as we all know it's a manic time anyway and add to that there have been constant strikes the last few months it was plastered everywhere that the last posting dates had changed.

Not saying you've been sitting kn yours op but my mums retired and is busy doing bugger all most of the time so just can't get my head round why she didn't do it sooner

mondaytosunday · 18/12/2022 18:02

Post them anyway. Mail around me has been crap for the past year (when I moved here), nothing to do with the strikes. I was warned by several people not to expect a delivery most days, and that has sure owned out, and I live in London!
So don't worry - people will not be at all surto get them after Christmas and you might get lucky. I'd post at a post office if possible though.

Ilovetocrochet · 18/12/2022 18:10

I didn’t post cards last year, my mum was very ill and I got very stressed, ran out of time so decided not to put pressure on myself and none got sent. This year, I thought about writing some but felt that I was only sending them out of habit and I’m not going to do it anymore. I’ve had less cards posted to me this year which is good as I don’t display them anyway and I hope my friends and family are also cutting back. I’ve not even written them for local friends and explained that I am no longer sending them but will be making a donation to charity instead. Again, it seems a number of friends have also stopped.

I really think that sending cards will cease to be a tradition for many people and for me that’s a good thing. If it’s something you do not enjoy, then stop!

jamdonut · 18/12/2022 18:21

Just send them…. At least it shows some thought…😌
