Missed Royal Mail's last posting date 1st class: WWYD?

For various reasons, we haven't posted our cards yet or even written them and the last recommended date has gone.
It would take three hours or so but we don't have time tonight for the 9am collection anyway so the next collection would be Tuesday 9am. We have the 1st class stamps.

Would you take a risk and post them tomorrow or would you email an image instead?

Just send a E Christmas Card because of the postal strikes, they are not guaranteed to get there anyway,

Zedcarz · 19/12/2022 05:16

You can do tracked 24 with post office today's the last day I think, plus special delivery but cost about £6, if all to same family members or mutual friend group can you do one big envelope to someone who is likely to see all of them?

Seems like we are not the only ones! 🤓 I think that we should write them tomorrow and post them, hopefully in a post office that collects in the afternoon, rather in for the next local post box where collection won't be until Tuesday 9am.
Its a good point that Christmas ends at Epiphany. 🎅
Also, I could blame any lateness on the backlog. ⏲

Why didn't you write any last night and get them in the post for this morning?

FaazoHuyzeoSix · 19/12/2022 06:20

i would send them on Tuesday. i think they have a fair chance of arriving. in previous years (with no strikes) we regularly posted our cards on the "last posting date" and they arrived next-day with several days to spare. the alleged last posting dates have a huge margin for error. obviously I wouldn't expect a next-day service this year but I don't doubt that there's a good chance something sent Tuesday will arrive by Saturday.

KatherineJaneway · 19/12/2022 06:25

I'm posting mine tomorrow and hoping!

Toddlerteaplease · 19/12/2022 06:30

NHSP post them and blame it on the mail strikes!

HollyDollyChristmas · 19/12/2022 06:35

The post box will have the final collection time on it for the day and the metal plate will show the day of the next collection. No box will have only one collection at 9am. DH does a rural collection for RM and the earliest late pick up from a box is about 2pm.

If you’ve bought the stamps I’d post them but if you haven’t, save the money and just be prepared next year to post them earlier.

dementedpixie · 19/12/2022 07:00

My nearest postbox only has a morning collection (9am). I have to post in the supermarket for a later collection

FindingMeno · 19/12/2022 07:04

Just don't bother!
It's such a relief and saves a lot of money to just stop.

321Backintheroom · 19/12/2022 07:06

I work at Royal Mail . Do not post them . The backlog of letters is huge .

babyyodaxmas · 19/12/2022 07:14

I posted mine on Saturday with 1st class stamps and crossed my fingers - we will see.

FaazoHuyzeoSix · 19/12/2022 07:33

surely if we want a postal service to exist we need to use it? the decline in people using the post to keep in touch with each other must be a contributing factor to royal mail's woes.

Christmas is a 12 day festival lasting until 6th January. I am sure that some cards will still be arriving on 28th Dec after the bank holidays, that will be the 4th day of Christmas (4 calling birds, 3 French hens, 2 turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree) so they won't be late.

lolliesarentbreakfast · 19/12/2022 08:17

There's a strike. You do all know that right? A Mail and Train strike

I wouldnt be sending anything knowing its never going to arrive

We have posted them all, finally! I decided that there is no substitute for the real thing. Also, there's people you only write to and hear from once a year.

well done!

Lucky91 · 20/12/2022 09:50

I would just send them. People expect delays this time of year with how busy it is and the postal strikes.

Wauden · 29/12/2022 16:50

I got an email before Christmas from someone thanking me for my card (they were not sending any) to say that my card had arrived in time, so I am glad that I did it.
