This could have been an "AIBU to ask but what did you forget last year". However. AIBU scares me and this board is lovely.
Last year I forgot foil and bin bags so not really food but should have been on my Asda shop. I also forgot bread and didn't get enough butter.

What did you forget ? Help me before my Asda shop has only Prosecco on it!!

I regularly forget cream.

BettyOBarley · 15/12/2022 18:29

Oil
Cranberry sauce

ApolloandDaphne · 15/12/2022 18:34

I never forget anything but only because i make the most ridiculously detailed list you have ever seen. I write down every meal we will have over the period including breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks and snacks. Then i go through the recipe/prep for every meal and transfer all i need onto a list. This has worked for me over many years of hosting Christmas! I started my list for this year this morning.

Timeforabiscuit · 15/12/2022 18:35

Cranberry sauce
Panchetta to wrap the devil's on horseback (had the prunes though!)

flowerycurtain · 15/12/2022 18:37

Matches
Batteries

These are the things I alway ms forget.

I always think I've forgotten cream and cheese and therefore buy way too much and end up living off it till February!!

Leeds2 · 15/12/2022 18:41

Definitely batteries! And bin bags.
Crackers.
After dinner mints, if you have them.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 15/12/2022 18:43

Paracetamol

Roselilly36 · 15/12/2022 18:43

Usually it’s the cream, I forget too.

Mercurian · 15/12/2022 18:52

Cranberry sauce and Anti-Acids
I wish we got a proper dessert. We munched on chocolates instead as we dislike Christmas pudding.

MishaBukvic · 15/12/2022 19:11

Cooking oil , crackers, butter, Yorkshire pudding mix or flour if you make your own , custard, are what I forgot last year.

newtb · 15/12/2022 19:11

Toilet paper and kitchen roll

DilemmaDelilah · 15/12/2022 19:27

I'm like @ApolloandDaphne , I make detailed meal plans and lists of what I need, and I have my supermarket shop delivered a couple of days before Christmas so if anything is missing we have time to go out and get it. However we had planned to get a Christmas pudding after Christmas when they are cheap (we never eat it on Christmas day) and there weren't any! Seriously!!! We tried about 4 different supermarkets!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 15/12/2022 19:33

Have you got the basic non-Christmas stuff which is easily overlooked in the rush to get all the special seasonal stuff?

Loo rolls
Toothpaste
Shampoo/soap/shower gel/handwash etc
Teabags, coffee, milk
Cereal, bread, butter/spread, jam/marmalade/Marmite/peanut butter and so on
Salt, pepper
Washing up liquid, cloths, scourers
Anything you need for the dishwasher or washing machine

If you have little ones, Calpol.

Junibug · 15/12/2022 19:36

Custard
Foil trays for cooking
Cranberry sauce

One or more of these gets forgotten every year...

StrawberryWater · 15/12/2022 19:45

Mint sauce
Apple sauce
Cream
Icing sugar
Tin foil

Bignanny30 · 15/12/2022 20:24

When I do my big Christmas food shop I usually forget the basics as I’m focusing on the event. So no loo rolls, milk or tea bags 🤦‍♀️

Themisthefacts · 15/12/2022 20:34

Always crackers here

user1471554720 · 15/12/2022 20:37

We sonetimes have only just enough of painkillers, washing powder, soap.

I get so intent on buying tin foil, sauces and trimmings that I sometimes forget to keep the basics topped up.

One year I got home from work at 3pm on Christmas Eve and realised that I had forgotten to pick up the turkey that I had ordered from the butchers and was meant to collect on my way home, and by this time the butchers were closed. My husband had travelled to the city to collect his son and my dad who were coming to stay for Christmas. I phoned him in a state of panic and he drove around the city trying to find a shop that still had some turkeys available. At the same time my daughter phoned to say that she was on her way home from work and when I told her my dilemma, so ran into M&S and picked up one of the last two in the shop. Just as she phoned to say ‘don’t worry mum I’ve got one’, yes you’ve guessed - my husband then phoned, very pleased with himself to say he’d got the last one in a Waitrose in the city! 🤦‍♀️

prisscalledwanda · 15/12/2022 20:58

Loo roll
Foil

RosesAndHellebores · 15/12/2022 21:14

sueelleker · 15/12/2022 21:55

I always buy crackers but forget to put them out. Usually remember in the evening when it's too late. For some reason my mum seems to do the same as well! Probably because they get put upstairs with the left over wrapping paper and in the hustle & bustle of the actual day get forgotten as they are out of sight.

This year I've used them to decorate the tree so they are in sight!

Felicity42 · 15/12/2022 22:15

Packets of bread sauce from M&S.
Tastes like homemade.
