This could have been an "AIBU to ask but what did you forget last year". However. AIBU scares me and this board is lovely.
Last year I forgot foil and bin bags so not really food but should have been on my Asda shop. I also forgot bread and didn't get enough butter.

What did you forget ? Help me before my Asda shop has only Prosecco on it!!

This is why I don’t preplan Christmas dinner. At the moment it looks like the 23rd is the only day I have free next week so what ever is left in Aldi on that day as long as it’s in date will be our dinner. If we’ve no bin bags, I have plenty of carrier bags, no foil, I’m sure I’ve got baking paper…

The only food planed for Christmas Day is brunch, but we have all the ingredients in as weekly staples, if not the petrol station is open.

Polkadotpjs · 15/12/2022 22:42

Have added to my shop. Cannot believe the price of oil though 😭

It’s not food but I forgot Buck’s Fizz last year and I couldn’t get any 2 days before Christmas .

GetOffTheTableMabel · 15/12/2022 22:49

Our council will take as much additional recycling as you care to put out but only if it’s in clear plastic sacks. Hard to find them in the supermarket. Ordered another big roll from Amazon because last year the wrapping paper mountain was hard to wrangle.

PauliesWalnuts · 15/12/2022 22:50

I usually forget sage as I make my own stuffing and have to run around supermarkets trying to find a jar. And I’ve forgotten goose fat several times.

RoseJam · 15/12/2022 22:51

Dishwasher tablets!

MintyGreenDreams · 15/12/2022 22:57

Dishwasher tablets.
Gaviscon.

I never forget anything but only because i make the most ridiculously detailed list you have ever seen. I write down every meal we will have over the period including breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks and snacks. Then i go through the recipe/prep for every meal and transfer all i need onto a list. This has worked for me over many years of hosting Christmas! I started my list for this year this morning.

So did I. OH thinking I'm crazy time

ItisallPooh · 15/12/2022 23:04

I made my lists this morning. I will go to Aldi then Tesco then M&S. I have lists for all three! I bought two sets of the throw away turkey trays last year and found them last week so that is off my list. I've to go round to the butcher for my turkey. I then will pray that it will all fit in the fridge. I'm trying not to think how much it will all cost. 🙈.

Crackers, because I always write "crackers" on my list, then buy crackers instead of crackers.

‘Have added to my shop. Cannot believe the price of oil though 😭’

Right now, Waitrose has Filippo Berio olive oil on offer at £6 per litre.
www.waitrose.com/ecom/shop/search?&searchTerm=Filippo%20Berio

My usual 1litre tin at Sainsbo has gone up from £7 to £9.

Sea salt.
Cornflour.
Gaviscon.
Camomile tea for upset tum.
Long life milk - just in case.
Foil.
Washing upliquid.
dish scrubbers - need new ones for roasting dishes
J-cloths.
Black plastic bags.
Kitchen towel.
Plasters.
Parsley to fine chop into anything on a plate.
Lemon & lime.
Garlic/ginger/lemongrass/star anise to pimp leftovers.
Tin of pineapple kept in fridge - instant palate cleanser.
white basmati rice for leftovers a la kedge/risotto/curry.
Tins of baked beans or soup for when no-one can be arsed to cook or shop.

Cooks Treat - THE favourite bikkie/cake/tipple/chocolate to keep the momentum going & give instant reward for all the bloody hard work to make Christmas appear effortless. Mine is a good Italian panettone for me only, I have a wodge with a stiff coffee for my festive breakfasts.

Forgot potatoes a few years ago.
Our Au Pair was a member of the local Evangelical church.
She made an appeal to the congregation on Christmas morning, for immediate donations of potatoes.
We received several kilos of other people’s lovely potatoes in time for Christmas lunch.

Nexium
Paracetamol
Imodium
Hypo allergenic plasters

Cream
Butter
Icing sugar

Almonds, nuts
Fresh fruit
Emergency chocolate boxes/hostess gifts (sometimes I gift these to myself, dammit)
Squirty cream
Ice cream
Popcorn
Chap stick
Hand soap
Hand cream
Prosecco
Chicken stock pots
Extra potatoes

ok I sound mad.

GrimsbyOrangePippin · 16/12/2022 09:08

Forgotten in recent years and hence first into the basket now:
Lemsip
Tissues
Bread sauce
Pepper
Eggs
Milk
Sanitary towels or tampons

It's often the basics that get forgotten IMO.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 16/12/2022 09:27

One year when we were having a big family get-together at a large rented place in Devon, I left my home-made brandy butter in the fridge. Was so 🤬with myself. I don’t like cream so for me the BB is essential with Christmas pud.
And that was despite meticulous lists - rented place was quite a way from shops so between us we had to take absolutely everything for 12.

Same 😂

UniversalAunt · 16/12/2022 15:24

Water filter.

Ugh, scummy tea until the shops open? - always have a spare.

Grunch · 16/12/2022 15:33

I've just forgotten cream
And marshmallows for the hot chocolate to make it more special and seasonal

Grunch · 16/12/2022 15:33

I've also forgotten crackers ( the eating kind)

MadameMackenzie · 16/12/2022 15:38

MishaBukvic · 15/12/2022 19:11

Cooking oil , crackers, butter, Yorkshire pudding mix or flour if you make your own , custard, are what I forgot last year.

MishaBukvic · 16/12/2022 15:39

@MadameMackenzie you DON'T have Yorkshire puddings with Christmas Dinner?????

MadameMackenzie · 16/12/2022 16:09

MishaBukvic · 16/12/2022 15:39

@MadameMackenzie you DON'T have Yorkshire puddings with Christmas Dinner?????

Christmas Dinner has never featured Yorkshire Puddings traditionally. They are for Roast Beef

What food shopping item did you forget last year? Help me remember what I need !!
ScreamInBlue · 16/12/2022 17:33

Everyone has Yorkshire puddings with their Christmas dinner, I think you’ll find it’s the law.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/12/2022 17:34

It's a law that's passed this household by! I have no objection to the idea but I've only ever had Yorkshire puddings with beef and we have turkey at Christmas.
