I am just about to put some home made items in bags for people in a class I attend- just had a last minute wobble.
Do people like such things?

I just thought it's maybe a bit of a proud thing to do!
It's a simmer pot sachet for home fragrance, with christmassy herbs and spices- cloves, cinnamon, orange etc.

I would LOVE to receive that! I hope they all appreciated it.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 13/12/2022 17:57

Sorry it’s not for me. Can’t even think of anybody who would want it, so it would go straight in the bin.

FerretFumbler · 13/12/2022 18:15

I think they are lovely, OP.
And thoughtful.

I hope the recipients are grateful.

MintJulia · 13/12/2022 18:23

I know someone who uses simmer pots. She puts them on radiators or log burners to raise the scent. Quite nice if you like scents like cinnamon etc.

NoAlexa · 13/12/2022 18:26

I think it's a nice idea, and would be appreciative, however, I would never use it, and would end up binning

ChaToilLeam · 13/12/2022 18:28

I have never heard of a simmer pot, but if I got one, I’d certainly try it out! Home made gifts are fun to get if well put together or made by a child you love.

I’m in a craft advent calendar group and every year we are assigned a number and make a multiple number of gifts for the group. This year I made a beaded charm, last year I gave everyone a Christmas fabric button which some sewed on hats or scarves or used as a brooch. Some people do jars of chutney, some home made cosmetics, some do cookies or sweets, some make tree decorations. It’s all good fun. There’s some amazing creativity as well as some well intentioned wonkiness.

You have to know the recipient will appreciate it, I think - but in a yoga group I’d imagine that people might be more open to such gifts.

Murasakispillowbook · 13/12/2022 18:31

I'd be grateful of any gift you gave me and more if you'd thought to make it for me.

Even if it was something I'd never use or eat. It would make my day that you'd thought of me.

Coxspurplepippin · 13/12/2022 18:36

Is the picture you posted at the top of the thread one of the ones you've made? If so, I think it looks very professional. I would be very happy to receive one as a gift and would use it.
These threads happen every year - so many people turning their noses up at hm gifts.

Mercurian · 13/12/2022 18:38

You might like to make scented sachets for wardrobes or drawers or pomanders?

Eixample · 13/12/2022 18:40

I love homemade gifts in general and yours in particular.

speakout · 13/12/2022 18:41

Coxspurplepippin thankyou!

Mercurian that sounds a good idea.

It’s lovely and thoughtful of you to give your class gifts and I personally love the idea. My house always smells of feet and dogs so I’d love it 🤣

Pinkbananas01 · 13/12/2022 18:45

I love homemade gifts, hadn't heard of a simmer pot but I be delighted to receive it.

Wakk · 13/12/2022 18:47

I would like it

ThirtyThreeTrees · 13/12/2022 18:47

I would like one purely because I've never heard of it before & like trying new things.

I also think it's incredibly thoughtful to go to the trouble of making something for someone. Time, effort & expense.

One of my favourite Christmas gifts is homemade rum & raisin fudge. I've never seen the lady's kitchen but don't give a hoot, I know her & they haven't killed me yet!

Some people are just needlessly negative- ignore them.

AlwaysLatte · 13/12/2022 18:49

Love the idea of a simmer pot!

PortiasBiscuit · 13/12/2022 18:49

I genuinely need chutney

GoslingsWindowCleaner · 13/12/2022 18:51

Oohh! Would love

Lyricallie · 13/12/2022 18:55

I wouldn't dislike it. I like candles and smellies so if it was well made I would like it. However in general I'm not a fan of home made gifts (unless edible) the amount of people who are "crafty" and just do crafts because they enjoy doing them then pawn them off on people as gifts annoys me. Looking directly at my in-laws here. The amount of random pottery and glass items I've received that are absolutely not my style and were not made for me yet were given to me is ridiculous. I'd be happier with a cheap book and they can give the crafts to someone who would actually enjoy them.

AlwaysLatte · 13/12/2022 19:10

Haha! I just tried this summer pot idea with orange slices, cinnamon, Christmas tree cuttings and cloves. It smells amazing but a downside is that 10 minutes in I've had two disappointed teenagers thinking something lovely was in the oven!

AlwaysLatte · 13/12/2022 19:10
  • simmer pot
AlwaysLatte · 13/12/2022 19:13

And now a husband thinking I'm making mulled wine! 🤣

Anewhoo · 13/12/2022 19:17

I’m a yoga person and I’m afraid that would sit in a cupboard until I got round to throwing it out.

ArabellaScott · 13/12/2022 19:21

Sounds lovely - unusual and interesting and I love homemade stuff.

Could you smoke it?
