I am just about to put some home made items in bags for people in a class I attend- just had a last minute wobble.
Do people like such things?

I'd love that op. Send one my way 😜

NonagonInfinityOpensTheDoor · 13/12/2022 16:07

If you’re giving them to people who have no issue with pointlessly having the hob on for 10
minutes during a cost of living crisis I suppose… I usually love homemade gifts but sorry this is trash. It’s really inconvenient to do, doesn’t even leave a lasting smell… sorry it’s just pointless to me.

donttalkaboutbookclub · 13/12/2022 16:08

I love homemade things and a simmer pot sounds a great idea to me - I'd use it!

Yogity · 13/12/2022 16:17

I'd love this but I do generally enjoy homemade gifts

Sounds fab to me. I love a homemade present.

But as PP have said, really only when it's a reasonable quality and I trust the person (if food). A good friend decorated a bauble for me once but spelt my surname wrong 😑

speakout · 13/12/2022 16:17

thelobsterquadrille don't you cook though? Surely the risk to your cat is the same?
So the answer is some may like it others may hate it😂

Fair enough.

I think it sounds lovely and I would enjoy it

ActionThisDay · 13/12/2022 16:21

I like homemade gifts. I think I'd probably need a bit of an explainer about this one and I might not use it- my kitchen is full of Christmassy smells all Christmas anyway- but I would appreciate the gesture.

No the pot is not left to simmer all day, just a short 10 minute burst.
I don't think the smell would linger, it's all edible food type materials.
Pots get cleaned if you cook a curry or fish and the small doesn't linger.

They are yoga clases- so possibly a little more receptive to this kind of gift!

Sounds perfect for a yoga class. Go for it.

Noonesperfect · 13/12/2022 16:22

I'd give them, they look good.

spiderlight · 13/12/2022 16:23

I'd love that!

I have just worked out that the cost of gas to use the simmer pot on a low peep for 10 minutes costs 8p.
Is that a lot to expect of people if they want to use it?
Many of us will have a turkey in the over for hours, or give gaming devices, hair straighteners etc.

Thanks people- I am making them as we speak.

In regards to home made things from adults I like food, drink and plant cuttings/plants. From children I will accept anything.

Simmer pots - no. A sachet to put in my drawers/wardrobe of herbs you had grown yourself - yep.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 13/12/2022 16:27

I love a home made gift. There is a good chance I would drink it though, quartz crystal and all.

notangelinajolie · 13/12/2022 16:28

I love Christmasy smells so I’d give it a go but I’d be a little concerned for my pan.
I tried it with coffee once when I was selling my house and the pan never recovered.
I’m not sure about Heinz beans with an infusion of clove and cinnamon.
Have you included instructions to say just 10 mins?

AutumnalLeaves38 · 13/12/2022 16:30

OP, I'd love to receive it!

stuntbubbles · 13/12/2022 16:33

I like receiving homemade jam, marmalade, pickles, baked goods, sloe gin etc.

I wouldn’t know what a simmer pot was and would just view it as an exercise in creating washing up, sorry. I do yoga but I don’t like air freshener, pot pourri-type smells – I like my air to smell like air, or whatever is cooking. But I guess it’s easily regifted?

MsFogi · 13/12/2022 16:38

You're overthinking it OP - it's very kind of you to give the people in your class a gift. Best case scenario some of them love it, worst case some of them don't but are hopefully polite enough to say they do. Either way you have thought of them at Christmas.

mondaytosunday · 13/12/2022 16:39

Well with utilities at an all time high not sure I'd like anything simmering just for the scent. I'd also worry I'd forget about it then it would burn away while I wonder what that smell was!
But as for handmade or homemade things - yes I'd love them if of decent quality (which yours looks to be). When I had an apple tree I made apple chilli jelly and chutneys which people loved to get. I'd also love homemade soaps or scented candles.

How bloody nasty calling someone's personal gift trash. Do you get off on making others feel bad? This place sometimes...

OP it's a lovely thought. I'd use it, others may not but that's fine. Yummy Christmas smell 💚

noscoobydoodle · 13/12/2022 16:51

I would love this. A colleague at work always brings us something homemade at Xmas - it's not always something I would have chosen/bought but it's just so thoughtful and I've still got every gift (that wasn't edible).

speakout · 13/12/2022 16:51

Puffalicious

Thanks. x

Yeah, I'd give that! I may not use one (I don't like the smell of Christmas's stuff) but I'd be happy to re gift. Please tell people what you're meant to do with it though or else they may try to make mulled wine with it.

I had a lovely friend who use to crochet me things for Christmas. I miss her.

I love it when my dd makes or paints me something.
