Mine is 63. Young at heart. Into fitness. Loves her grandchildren. Not a foodie, now a gardener. Don't want to go down the experience route. No idea!! What are you doing?

A leather crossbody/shoulder bag.

Plus a fabric drawstring bag containing:
• Small card wallet in coordinating print from Oliver Bonas sale.
• Hand sanitiser holder clip on, matches the card wallet and is also from Oliver Bonas sale. I’ve put a refillable bottle in it.
• Slim mirror designed to go in a card wallet slot. Really pleased with this for a pound or thereabouts. And it’s colour co-ordinated lol.
• The White Company mini hand cream in pomegranate (on pre-order).
• A monogrammed embroidered cotton hanky.
• Woven cotton string market bag.
• Chanel rouge coco buildable colour lip balm in natural charm.
• Small tin of ginger mints.
• Loose change! (Divine chocolate gold coins).

Then a half share in a box of fancy teabags and a half share in a tin of biscuits.

So far for MiL we've got a photo calendar with pics of the grandkids. She's tricky to buy for as she never needs/wants anything and if she does she buys it so I think it will be a hamper with nice food/pamper bits or maybe some perfume

My Mum has asked for a kindle case, I've also got her a necklace & some Molton Brown smellies. Toying with a book subscription or afternoon tea voucher if she doesn't tell me of anything else she wants.

Soproudoflionesses · 06/11/2022 09:01

Some binoculars for when she goes out walking

TheBirdintheCave · 06/11/2022 09:53

Mine is into reading autobiographies at the moment so I'll probably buy her a book :) MIL always gets a special bottle of gin or port or something.

inappropriateraspberry · 06/11/2022 09:55

Can anyone here recommend a book for my mum? She likes Maeve Binchy, a bit of Jodi Piccoult and the odd crime thriller! Wondered if there was anything new that she may like and I've missed.

Shufflebumnessie · 06/11/2022 09:59

My mum is 80. I'm getting her a set of 3 LED real wax candles (as I know she wants them). I've seen a decorative bottle of prosecco in M&S that she'd probably like, along with some Lindt chocolates or liquorice allsorts.
I'll also buy a large stack of books from charity shops as she loves reading, and buying second hand (which she has no issue with) means I can buy loads instead of just a couple.

mac1974 · 06/11/2022 10:08

@Shufflebumnessie I never knew you could get Led wax candles. What a great idea. I always think I'd like to get my MIL some candles but she's so forgetful I wouldn't trust her with them. These could be a nice idea instead.

Tickets to a show always go down well with mine.

Same here, my mum doesn't want "stuff" (although the heated throw I got her last year went down very well), she wants time. So I book tickets for shows or exhibitions she'd like to see and we go together.

Shufflebumnessie · 06/11/2022 10:35

@mac1974 they're great! We only discovered them a few years ago. Ours are so realistic that both my parents and in-laws expressed concerns at having open flames near our young children. Love them in the dark evenings. They have a time switch on the bottom so you don't have to remember to switch them off each evening.

My mum
Is a keen gardener too.
I've got her a couple of lovely big planters for the garden (eg a wheelbarrow shaped one and a terracotta one) and i'll fill it with posh gardening gloves, some hand cream, maybe some gardening tools and a few packets of bulbs

i'm also going to get the kids to make a sign that says Nannie's Garden and paint it using their finger prints

Beautiful idea, I may pinch this! 😃
Macmillan have or did have last time I looked, some lovely gardening gloves and matching equipment

My mum is 78 , I've got her

Liz Earle perfume
Buddha garden statue thing she chose
Oodie
2 pairs pyjamas
Joules wellies
Joules dog socks
Handcream
White company candles and jumper
Sparkly trainers
Candle stick holder
Budget book she asked for
Tickets for two afternoon champagne tea at The Ivy
Dior bauble thing
Hotel chocolate
Nutcracker character
Not sure what else yet but we're going shopping so I'll get some ideas then .

I'm waiting for someone to come along and tell you it's an obscene amount and that your mum will be "overwhelmed" 🤣🤣

Some lovely ideas there, think I'll steal a couple of them for my mum.

stringbean · 06/11/2022 10:43

How about tickets to one of the RHS flower shows if she likes gardening? Not sure where you are, but the Hampton Court one is a brilliant day out. My parents have reached the age where they don't want stuff but greatly appreciate time spent with family (they are older than your mum though) so a day spent with her sharing something she would enjoy might be the way to go?

mac1974 · 06/11/2022 11:04

@Shufflebumnessie which ones do you buy?

How about the Cazalet Chronicles by Elizabeth Jane Howard, if she hasn't read them? They're are five books in the series - the first one is The Light Years

stringbean · 06/11/2022 11:20

Ah, just seen she's NOT a gardener, so scrub Hampton Court (it's still a great day out though Smile).

If you haven’t brought one already, I can recommend this cold brew puck puck cup. Especially good if you only want smaller quantities in one go

My mum lives abroad so I will send her some Xmas flower bouquet via Interflora

neonleopard · 06/11/2022 15:16

My mum loved a flower subscription last year (arena flowers). This year considering a sheepskin hot water bottle from Ciora!

SirenSays · 06/11/2022 15:25

@ChakaKhanfan thanks so much I'll check it out 💐

Brendabigbaps · 06/11/2022 15:27

Buble tickets here!
when she was a gardener a subscription to gardeners world mag always went down well

PieonaBarm · 06/11/2022 15:44

Theatre vouchers. FIL is an avid gardener and Garden Centre vouchers always go down well for him, along with a gardeners world subscription!

I used to buy mum socks, smellies, chocolate gingers, books, jumpers. She was 86 in July. Sadly she died in August so won't need to buy at all this year. But you all have lovely ideas. Give your mums big hugs. I'd not seen mine at Christmas since 2019 because of lockdown though had seen her at other times...so hold her close.

I'm sorry for your loss Flowers

Favouritefruits · 06/11/2022 18:27

I’ve bought my mum (67) a blouse from WhiteStuff, slippers from next and I’m going to get her some CK perfume.
