Mine is 63. Young at heart. Into fitness. Loves her grandchildren. Not a foodie, now a gardener. Don't want to go down the experience route. No idea!! What are you doing?

Im mid 50s so not too far off her age. I'm asking my adult dc for
Neals Yard tolietries
New Miss Marple stories book
Joules knee length socks
a delivery of fondant fancies from Bettys.

bakehimawaytoys · 05/11/2022 13:02

An Aura digital photo frame preloaded with photos of the DC. Joint present for both my parents.

GettingStuffed · 05/11/2022 13:15

I've bought DMiL a throw as she feels the cold. We're also doing her a stocking so far we've bought her Fudges florentines.

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 05/11/2022 13:38

She really wanted tickets to see Pulp but didn't manage to get any yesterday when they went on sale so I'm going to try and source some between now and Christmas and surprise her...if not then no idea what else!

pinkksugarmouse · 05/11/2022 13:38

Nothing so that solves the browsing. But as a mum of an adult DD I am hinting at a pair of pyjamas, a hoodie the offer to come around and clean the parts of the house my arthritis won’t let me. I think I will get pyjamas or a hoodie. 🤣🤣🤣

pinkksugarmouse · 05/11/2022 13:42

That should have an or after hoodie. 🙄

Bogglebrain · 05/11/2022 14:55

I struggle with mine. She’s late 60s but still working and buys everything she needs! No point getting her books as she has a kindle. Tickets to a show is a good idea to an extent but depends on what is showing.

I usually end up buying her nice socks and bubble bath! And jigsaw puzzles but she has so many of them now.

NoNamesLeft234678 · 05/11/2022 14:57

My mum's getting the bathroom stickers we have (random, but she asked for them), a Dove gift set, cute fluffy socks, foam shower gel, pjs, chocolates, a password book (she can't remember them), a penguin ice cube mould and a shampoo bar. My parents are also getting a joint gift of a calender I've made with my little ones photos :)

KittenCatt · 05/11/2022 15:23

My mother is 58, and I’ve got her:

A pair of M&S pjs to wear on Christmas Eve (we do this every year for each other).

Her main gifts are: A ring from Clogau and a set Spectrum make up brushes.

I also get her stocking fillers, I’ve got her:

Olay moisturiser
Dove soap
Shower gel
M&S Turkish delight

surelynot1234 · 05/11/2022 16:13

I've got my parents a joint present to the royal ballet The Nutcracker - it's only on until early Jan and tickets as cheap as £18 each. I prefer to get gifts that will be memorable rather than things that they can usually buy themselves!

SealSquish · 05/11/2022 17:24

My mum is 65. She’s requested a new dressing gown so I’ll get her one. I’ve ordered her some lovely joules pyjamas (thanks to the bargain Xmas thread) and her favourite Laura Mercier honey bath. Im also getting her a nice bath tray as she’s terrible for balancing things on the side then wondering why her drink / book has fallen in 🤣

My dad is getting her a new fitbit as hers is scuffed to death! He’s also bought her the new Nadiya baking book and some perfume so far.

Things that have gone down well before:

ipad
kindle
fancy candles
kindle voucher to buy books over xmas
massage voucher
spa day for both parents
fancy snack hampers
revlon blow dry brush thing
footspa
lovely photo frame with pics already put in (or she’ll never do it)
personalised calendar with her holiday photos on

Tickets to see Swan Lake with me and my DD.
For her birthday I generally pay for her National Trust for the year so she has somewhere to visit. Try to avoid stuff for her.

That's not really a gift is it?
It sounds more like a trip for you that she can tag along too

Of course it is, what an odd and unkind comment.

BabyClubYEEAAH · 05/11/2022 18:10

Photos of her grandchildren, same as every year.

CharlotteByrde · 05/11/2022 18:15

As a 60 year old, I'd love theatre tickets and/or afternoon tea vouchers. I don't need any more stuff, so prefer things I can eat, drink or use up (bubble bath, candles etc). But everyone is different!

Batshittery · 05/11/2022 18:18

There are some very generous gifts on here. The mums are very lucky

Brandybucks · 05/11/2022 18:25

I’m making her a photo calendar with lots of pictures of her and the grandchildren! Due to cost of living she doesn’t want anything else and I think she likes having something personal and (semi) homemade - I use Funky Pigeon to create it online.

Musicaltheatremum · 05/11/2022 18:26

I used to buy mum socks, smellies, chocolate gingers, books, jumpers. She was 86 in July. Sadly she died in August so won't need to buy at all this year. But you all have lovely ideas. Give your mums big hugs. I'd not seen mine at Christmas since 2019 because of lockdown though had seen her at other times...so hold her close.

PlainJaneSuperBrain99 · 05/11/2022 18:41

My mum is 70. Her birthday is June and she always wants No.7 skin care for both birthday and Christmas. So, that. Plus I also get extra small gifts so she has enough to open (not many others buy for my parents as they're... an acquired taste).

I usually get things like chocolates, slipper socks, a book of suduko/crosswords, nice shampoo and conditioner etc. Nothing extravagant, but she literally never buys anything nice for herself so sees receiving these things as a big treat.

So do you think like that for ALL ticket gifts?

Or do you just give someone a random ticket to go to something alone?

Frankly I would be bored at swan lake its hardly my idea of a great time but If my mam wanted to I would for her, shes always asking to see the kids too.

Its hardly like PP is a selfish teen taking he 90 year old Tom Jones loving grandma to a Rammstien concert because shes broke but her parents would only loan her money for a gift for Granny.

kitcat15 · 05/11/2022 19:51

My mum is 86….I’ve got her x 3 gibsons jigsaws, Esme from sewing bee’s autobiography, a ticket to a show in March 23 and a long weekend in Edinburgh and a dark chocolate toblerone ( her fave!)

Of course it’s a gift 🙄….I’ve got my mum a ticket to see Annie musical …I’ve also got my DD and eldest GD one too…..my Mum will love it being the 4 of us ‘girls’ …..we will go for a lovely meal after the show ….she will be thrilled ….my Mum took me to see Annie in London when I was 13 ( Catherine zeta jones was one of the orphans) so it will be a proper trip down memory Lane for her

Bluedoritos · 05/11/2022 19:58

A Fitbit or if she already has one then a new strap for it?

In the past presents that have gone down well with my mum have been one of those perfume atomisers for her to decant some of her perfume in, and a nice brand of travel mug which she still uses.
