Mine is 63. Young at heart. Into fitness. Loves her grandchildren. Not a foodie, now a gardener. Don't want to go down the experience route. No idea!! What are you doing?

OP posts:

I have just found the gift for my parents - a portal! My brother lives in Oz and it will be easier than getting out the laptop or faffing with a phone they don't really know how to use.

Is that all for this Christmas!? Or is that a list of things you've bought for her in the past?

hattie43 · 05/11/2022 20:32

@Bluedoritos

No it's this year . We've always splashed the cash at Christmas .

Bluedoritos · 05/11/2022 20:35

Wow that's very generous of you, your mum is very lucky ☺️

Tartifletti · 05/11/2022 20:36

Alan Rickman's diaries and something from Jo Malone.

Bluedoritos · 05/11/2022 20:37

Sorry the above post was for @hattie43! ☺️

jeffbezoz · 05/11/2022 20:39

I got my mum a national trust membership for her birthday. She blooming loves it .. memories to be had there.

She never treats herself so I like to spoil her at Christmas.

MammaWeasel · 05/11/2022 20:42

Mine is recently retirretiredwill be rejoicing in a punch-needle kit and some garden tat. 😁

Ragwort · 05/11/2022 20:43

My DM is 90 and has made it very, very clear she doesn't want or need gifts ... (she can afford to buy herself anything she likes ... within reason). She is genuinely happy with a charity 'goat' gift ... as am I (mid 60s). Neither of us want any more 'stuff' in our lives.

angeltattoo · 05/11/2022 20:53

@NoNamesLeft234678 thank you. I never knew I needed penguin ice cubes in my life, but now I do Grin

ladygindiva · 05/11/2022 20:54

Mine invested in a galaxy tab recently so I'm going to buy her a nice case for it, and also a nice piece of knitwear from marks, which she loves, and a garden centre voucher from my kids.

KylieCharlene · 05/11/2022 20:55

Her favourite perfume- Ralph Lauren Romance and a box of Hotel Chocolat Turkish Delight.

snugglyblanket · 05/11/2022 21:02

DM has just downsized so we have decided to only do token consumable gifts this year. So far I've bought her some Turkish delight that she already knows about.

For her birthday this year I bought her 2 tickets to a show but ended up going with her because her friend wasn't available & DF refused to go (not his thing). We had a lovely time and do enjoy doing things together. Also bought her some wrist warmers as she's not so keen on gloves.

After Christmas we will be going to the theatre and taking DD as her Christmas treat. I don't think it's selfish to do something together if you enjoy spending time together and have similar interests. We love our girly theatre trips.

My other issue is that DF tends not to know what to buy so I give him any other ideas I have 😂

Hazeleyez · 05/11/2022 21:06

I'm buying my mother nothing. She (has mental health issues) won't talk to me. Has ostracised me and abandoned me...talks to none of her kids. I see threads like this and I'd love to be able to participate positively. If your mum loves you ladies, cherish it. Love every minute of it. It isn't until its gone that you'll realise how precious it was. If I had a mom who loved me, I'd probably give her a photo of us when we were little or maybe bring her for afternoon tea...I think intangible things such as experiences are the most important things. They create positive memories to be cherished.

caffelattetogo · 05/11/2022 21:43

A photo book of her with the grandchildren. A big throw. Kindle credits

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 05/11/2022 23:00

Got my mum a personalised calendar, a Yankee candle set and giving her money to buy a new bra. Also brought her a Yankee candle advent calendar. She tends to get upset if I spend too much on her so I try to keep it tasteful.

Stickystitch · 05/11/2022 23:04

My mum is 60, retired, and barely leaves the house.

I'm going to get her a nice nightdress and some Neal's Yard bedtime bath stuff. I also usually make her a jar of fudge at Christmas, in a flavour she likes.

Tartifletti · 05/11/2022 23:57

@Hazeleyez My mum and I were estranged for several years before reconciling. I know it's very hard. Sending you best wishes and support.

daveyfish · 06/11/2022 00:11

Some wee bits and pieces she likes for a stocking (chilli chocolate, choc covered ginger, hand cream, wee skin care set etc will add Christmas private eye etc nearer the time), couple of books and a cd she asked for, big bottle of favourite perfume as she’s run out, afternoon tea for 2 and Japanese garden entry voucher.

Have in the past done massage/salon vouchers, magazine subscriptions, trips away, flower subscriptions (6 months of monthly flowers). Like others she doesn’t want ‘things’ but stuff she can use.

mdinbc · 06/11/2022 00:53

I'm amazed that quite a few of you have already bought Christmas presents!

I'm a mum of adult children, and liking most of the suggestions.
OP, if she's into fitness, then a new outfit is always appreciated, or maybe a gift certificate for a brand that she likes. SweatyBetty or Lululemon. I'm a similar age age and appreciate their clothing.

sessell · 06/11/2022 01:03

As a mother to adult DC I'd definitely prefer time to stuff. So yes a meal or show with the giver! For my own DM and DMil I live too far away so am sending a heated throw and foodie stuff.

kateandme · 06/11/2022 03:06

Does she wear jewellery. What about one of those bracelets that have the little extra bits with gcs initials on or all their birthstones.or similar necklace. There are some lovely ones.
a shawl with arms
letter or note sets
cardigan
winter jacket
boots
brownie or cake subscriptions
dressing gown
digital photo book
