If you shop there, what do you buy?

Just realised that might sound like a journalist type post.
I've had my eye on something for my mum. It's inexpensive at £21 so I'm not pushing the boat out but looking at their website it's full of beautiful and wondrous things. I live up north and have visited the store two or three times in total and wish I lived nearer as I'd love to see it decked out in all the Christmas finery. I love things in tins and they have such lovely things in tins. The hampers don't appeal but the food hall in general does.

I buy Smoky Grey Earl Grey Tea Bags. They're amazing and worth every penny. I only have one cup a day but I bloody love them and hell would have to freeze over before I stopped this middle aged indulgence.

I like their mince pies (possibly not helpful if you’re looking for a gift).

The marmalade is also 👌

This is my Christmas wish

I saw an advert for pickled Brussel Sprouts! Might make a gift for the person who has everything?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 02/11/2022 19:23

Any of their -lossus biscuits - the Christmas Merrilossus, the Cherrylossus, to Toffolossus - all really lovely. Their florentines are delicious too.

Their biscuit selections - the Explorer’s selection or the Christmas selection - are nice biscuits and come in pretty tins.

Their Welsh Rarebit pots are rather nice too.

I tend to buy a number of presents from F&M - I think that people don’t necessarily want more stuff, so an edible gift, something they mightn’t buy for themselves, is a good idea.

I used to buy my dad the selection of jams - tiny tiny pots (6-8 in the pack). It was a great christmas tree pressie. He really liked the jams and then used the jars for screws!

More recently I bought their decaff tea bags for my mum who can now only drink decaff - she told me they taste like any others (ie awful!). So that's fine Mum - shan't bother again!! I had also ordered for her for Christmas some other bits including their cucumber dill pickles. They were fermented. The seal must have broken. F&M customer service were lovely - immediately sent a replacement and insisted on adding her a little pressie to say sorry. That is how to do customer service.

I really don't rate their hampers and would much prefer a M&S one!

bakehimawaytoys · 02/11/2022 19:31

Fortnums tea bags are made by Twinings.

I really like their biscuits, marzipan fruits and cheesy nibbles. The food hall really is absolute heaven. I used to work nearby and would often see wealthy older people doing their weekly shop in there which was always a bit mind blowing!

Lemon Curd
Chocolate mints
Christmas Pudding
Chocolate biscuits in a tin - can’t remember the name of them.

LizzieSiddal · 02/11/2022 19:32

Oh and their brandy butter!

StarShapedWindow · 02/11/2022 19:35

I get the children a bag of ‘coal’ every year in their stockings. It’s like black honeycomb. I get my mum their Rose Jam or the Strawberry and Champagne one. DH loves the violet and rose creams and I love the dark chocolate dipped orange peel.

PersonaNonGarter · 02/11/2022 19:37

I love F&M marzipan fruits. I have given them as presents (to people that like marzipan obvs) and it’s always a winner.

So much of it is mad-expensive compared to other brands but as presents I think delicious food is always welcomed by people at every age and stage. And the tins are pretty.

yellowsun · 02/11/2022 19:58

My mum loves their teas.

AlternativelyWired · 02/11/2022 20:05

The bag of coal really tickled me this morning when I saw it and has made me smile all day. I've added a bag to my basket. It's a 250g bag so that's quite a good size.

Champagne strawberry jam
Mulled wine spices
Choc covered orangettes
Musical biscuit tin
Bone China mugs with initial

I usually buy myself the Christmas pudding in the lovely ceramic bowl.

green82 · 02/11/2022 20:14

I bought a tin of the hot chocolate for Christmas, mostly for the pretty tin tbh to store the cheap hot chocolate we usually have in it 😂

MsSquiz · 02/11/2022 20:25

DH loves their Boxing Day pickle and I love their Piccadilly lemon curd biscuits - we get them every December.
I also used to get MIL a fancy jam each December - I think it was rose and rhubarb.

I could spend hours wandering their food hall!

ArtichokeAardvark · 02/11/2022 20:27

Toffolossus biscuits. £20 for a tube of them so definitely a Christmas treat, but my god they are good.

Justonedayatatime11 · 02/11/2022 20:28

Love Fortnum and Mason. Particularly their Florentines, champagne and strawberry jam, overpriced Rooibos teabags in the tall tin and more than anything their coffee cremes from the chocolate counter (although I now buy these direct from Audreys chocolates who supply F&M with their chocolates). Love everything I've had from there

Suzi888 · 02/11/2022 20:30

Wine.

ReedOfFate · 02/11/2022 20:32

Peppermint creams! Their icy mints in the blue shiny box are a must have

I just got my F and M Christmas catalogue in the post and have put it aside for a special treat at the weekend. I like to dream about being able to order the whole lot Grin

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 02/11/2022 20:40

Their Florentines are delicious.

Beamur · 02/11/2022 20:42

Marmalade. Best ever.

shreddiesandmilk · 02/11/2022 20:47

The florentines are delicious
