Thank you @Isonthecase I can't get the first code to work for £8 but they're offering a free gift now and code MRSB2011 gets £5.99 off the box so all in and delivered for £11.99. mystery boxes are still available too 😊

DD (8) has got really into history, specifically the Tudor period but also general UK history.
Any suggestions for gifts would be appreciated as her 9th birthday is 8 days before Christmas so I need to buy for both and am really at a loss.
We’ve got all the Horrible Histories books, games, colouring in, seen the shows and got the T-shirt! Is there anything else history based for that age?

History gift ideas.. you can get historical versions of monopoly, quill and ink and parchment with calligraphy book. Cape with a hood. Historical top trumps. There's a good book called Icarus was ridiculous which is a kids retelling of Greek myths. Historical Lego or Playmobil. A steampunk style hat or colouring book. Tickets to the horrible histories at the theatre. Ruler with kings and queens of British history on. Goblet and some posh pop to go in it. Historical recipe book

Thank you @Chaenomeles

CakeCrumbs44 · 19/09/2022 14:41

@FragileWitch I was very keen on history at that age. One book I loved was called "A Street Through Time" which was the same street and river over a 1200 year period - stone age, medieval, plague, Victorian era etc. Lots of information and things to spot on each page. It might be a bit dated now in terms of the illustrations/fonts but still very interesting. You can get a second hand one for a few quid.

Usborne do some good history books and some graphic novels of well known myths and legends like King Arthur, Thor, The Oddesey.

Where do you live? There is a museum in Basingstoke called Milestones which I think is a good one, so maybe tickets to something like that?

DeeofDenmark · 19/09/2022 14:57

@FragileWitch does she have the horrible histories books, mine loved those at that age?

Serenitesanta · 19/09/2022 15:11

Would anyone please be kind enough to give me a Dunelm Duscount code?

I have searched to no avail and cannot use the student one any longer.
Any help will be so appreciated as I’ve a large order 🙏

If anyone can help please Maybe send code directly to me.

I will pay it forward should I get one.

For ribbons - try country baskets or Costco

LaTangerina · 19/09/2022 15:48

Thanks to whoever shared the half price Posca pens at Hobbycraft, I've just ordered 2 packs!
Not sure if it was here or the discount kids thread so will copy to both :)

The Tom Gates advent calendar arrived this afternoon, thanks again, it looks great!

Bluezoo123 · 19/09/2022 16:11

@Chaenomeles it doesn't seem to be letting me stack them but thank you for the £5 off referral link - just trying to choose 1 thing only to order! (dd keeps asking why I'm measuring her finger)

Serenitesanta · 19/09/2022 16:26

Thank you so much NoDairyNoProblem, you were so kind to send me the code. I’ve ordered my things and I’m touched by your kindness.

You are most welcome. I love our festive bargain community - this is my tenth year under various names and guises!

Chaenomeles · 19/09/2022 16:36

@Bluezoo123 Bother- sorry that doesn't work! Hopefully she'll forget about your suspicious finger-measuring before Christmas...
@FragileWitch (and others who suggested books), I'd second A Street Through Time, and add A Traveller in Time by Alison Uttley, which is set mostly during the Babington plot and beautifully evocative. I'd also keep an eye open for historical fiction by Geoffrey Trease (e.g. Cue for Treason). It might be dated now, but I was totally hooked on them in childhood.

Bluezoo123 · 19/09/2022 16:40

@Chaenomeles no worries! They've since sent me a free delivery code which won't stack with other codes so going to put in a second order as still works out at less than £10 and would be great for one of dd's friend's birthdays

Just posted this on the thread about Christmas books - and spotted it’s currently 40% off at Amazon The Night Before Christmas (Pop-up book) amzn.eu/d/doeEpwj

Amazing, and well loved by the adults I’ve given it to as well as kids. YouTube video so you can see the pop ups in action:

Does anyone know a good place to get nice bath bombs? My LG loves them but my purse can stretch to a few LUSH ones. We've tried Primark ones but they were rubbish tbh. TIA x

Bomb Cosmetics. You can get them from various places, amazon sells them and usually has a deal on, Just My Look has some on sale right now as well.
