With the food prices shooting up I'm thinking to start putting the occasional treat on my weekly shop now and hide Grin

What's everyone started buying with good dates on?

So far I've bought crackers for cheese (nice ones!), a christmassy stuffing and some nice shortbread. All with good dates!

Pikachan · 12/09/2022 10:29

I recently bought a tub of Celebrations and a tub of Heroes from Tesco. They are currently doing a 2 for £7 deal if you have a clubcard. Best before dates are well into next year!

whateverwillidonext · 12/09/2022 10:30

Excellent, thanks both Grin

Chocolate oranges (not the most fancy/original thing but very Christmassy, I feel). £1 on offer.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 12/09/2022 10:39

Nothing because I would eat it all.

AuntieMarys · 12/09/2022 10:42

Nothing...we gave away nearly all of our "Xmas" food last year.

LondonLovie · 12/09/2022 10:43

You've just prompted me to add some paxo stuffing, heros, crackers for cheese and cranberry sauce into this month's shop

ThisisCollie2022 · 12/09/2022 10:47

Oh and nice chutney for the cheese and crackers too.

I'm so hungry right now. Its a good job the cupboard is high and I'm 5ft 2

ToPlayOrNotToPlay · 12/09/2022 11:29

Tubs of chocolates, they're £4 in asda but with £1 back in your rewards pot with the app.

Generally start buying bits around now and putting it away when there are good offers on.

Quizzed · 12/09/2022 11:50

I normally get Quality streets, chocolate oranges and any other chocolates I fancy. Biscuits, Stuffing, cranberry sauce, frozen party food/desserts, gingerbread house kits, crisps and nuts. I save the other stuff till closer to the day.

Me too @TheYearOfSmallThings I’m impressed with the willpower of PP who keep large tubs of chocolate in the house without touching them!.

devildeepbluesea · 12/09/2022 12:06

Just the 2 for £7 chocs from Tesco so far.

Me three .

I can't keep chocolate intact at any time of year

LBFseBrom · 12/09/2022 12:12

Nothing. I buy what I want when I want it. No shortages here yet.

ohthehorrorthehorror · 12/09/2022 12:16

Nice cheese biscuits. And a bottle of Sancerre and a bottle of pouilly-fumé that were on offer in Lidl for £12 each. I hardly ever drink, but they're my favourite wines and I paid over £20 a bottle for them last year just before Christmas.
I have had a tendency to overbuy in years gone by, so each year I've made a list of what worked, and what wasn't worth it. I have honed my preparations pretty well over 35 years!

Yapokazhupiter · 12/09/2022 12:23

I spotted some mince pies this weekend, so I'll start stocking up soon. Smile

IncessantNameChanger · 12/09/2022 12:24

I'm really going cut back on food and booze this year as we just didn't eat it last Christmas.

I'm going to get two types of chocolates, drinks for three days, meals for the three days, mince pies and most definitely not a turkey.

Not due to cost of living, I just feel after covid we didn't need so much extra foods.

SkankingWombat · 12/09/2022 12:41

I bought the Xmas pudding at the weekend and will now start adding one or two cupboard-y bits to the shop each week. I need to clear out a bit of freezer space too this month so I can start putting things away in there as well, but it is currently full of the fruit & veg glut from our garden. I need to find some time to process it into jams/chutneys/liqueurs etc.
I find chocolates etc last until Xmas as long as DH doesn't spot them and/or they aren't opened even for 'just one'. Once they're opened, they have gone.

mam0918 · 12/09/2022 13:28

nothing really, fresh stuff would go off and we have no freezer room in our finy freezer for frozen stuff.

We dont really do cheese/crackers etc... and we get lots of sweets in the stocking so no need for tubs of stuff.

FairytaleofNewHampshire · 12/09/2022 14:55

I've bought crackers, chutney, pickles, biscuits, crisps, J20's, Appletiser, chocolates and some other bits I've forgotten. They're all hidden at the back of a kitchen cupboard and hopefully nobody will realise they are there.

Cuwins · 12/09/2022 15:33

I got some Pringles, cheeselets and cheese footballs this week- the last 2 for my partner as I can't stand them! They have had to go at the back of a cupboard (round a little corner) right out of sight. Might get some biscuits or chocs at some point but as we are at family Xmas eve, Xmas day and Boxing Day for most of the day then we won't need much.

nettytree · 12/09/2022 15:42

I've already eaten the chocolate orange I got. Currently eyeing up the tub of heroes.

AlternativelyWired · 12/09/2022 20:17

Chocolate! I love buying tubs of quality street, celebrations and heroes in September. Then I get the After 8s, chocolate oranges, matchmakers, Ferraro rocher etc as I go along or if they are on offer. We don't otherwise buy special food. I've always been underwhelmed with party type food even from M&S. I'll make sure I've got plenty of veggie bacon in for the holidays and plenty of baking ingredients but otherwise we are pretty boring I think.

mac1974 · 12/09/2022 20:21

Apparently the M&S very merry munch tin has come out. I need to get my hands on one of them. Absolutely delicious

Mummapenguin20 · 12/09/2022 21:01

I have tubs of chocs so far
