70 nothing says Christmas like a full chest freezer!
Biddy weirdly my DD enjoys finding the odd random filler bits in the calendar I do for her (mini packs of biscuits from hotels/fabric bags from trade fairs etc). She does look forward to the proper stuff as well! Stuffing is one of the best bits MrsArr! One year we were going on holiday on 27th Dec and so had a Christmas dinner with just trimmings!
It is pouring here! I went to Costco today and can report that Christmas has landed! There is no food yet so I couldn't accidentally buy the giant Quality Street or tinned panettone

I’ve requested my Christmas annual leave, I’ve decided on a week at the beginning of December to put the tree up/decorate/do the baking and take DD to some Christmassy events. Didnt need to book Xmas Eve for obvious reasons. It’ll be so nice to have a 4 day break over Christmas rather than 2.

I haven’t bought anything yet, but I’ve got my eye out for new tree decorations and a Garland for the mirror shelf. Also after a new centrepiece and table cloth.

we will be staying home this year, probably have the in laws over but 5 of us max (all being well I will be 6 months pregnant so won’t fancy hosting too many people). Got some other relatives nearby who i will probably ask round for drinks in the evening. Will need a few more ‘nice’ glasses as ive only got 4.

Oooooh I feels nice to be moving on from the sweaty nightmare of the last few months!

Ooh Costco are quick out of the traps this year , I haven't seen Cristmas in August before !

Freezer will end up full of Aunt Bessie Yorkshie Puddings (even though I make much nicer ones that are huuuge ) and Costco frozen chicken for DS (which will mean I need to make a trip there sometime before October )
Have to get the freezer first ( obvs ) Xmas Grin

I know! I was expecting it to be all about Hallowe'en in August! I normally buy Christmas stuff during the October half term.
On a different note - I've been tidying the spare room and found my extra stash of Florentines! They'll be ok to eat won't they? Maybe I should test a pack, before I offer them round 😉

Work2live · 17/08/2022 19:07

@ConstantlyCooking omg Costco!!

We went the other week and they had some festive ribbon and wrapping paper but that was it.

I might have to force DH into another trip there soon 😆

Beetr00t · 17/08/2022 19:16

Thanks 70! I'll google HC alternatives I think, would rather it could go in the dishwasher.

I WANT TO GO TO COSTCO! I didn't get the big Minnie Mouse last year and regretted it.

NoWordForFluffy · 17/08/2022 19:24

Evening!

Busy old day again today! One day it'll calm down, I'm sure.

I'm very excited about Christmas stocks in shops...finally it's on the way! Xmas Grin And it won't be long before the food offerings are out for ordering too. Eek!

Into the One Hundred and Twenties Xmas Grin

Muggy as blazes here , I am sweating like a hog (even though I know pigs don't sweat) <fun fact for the day.>

Sweetener12 · 18/08/2022 08:50

Thank you for the thread & it's never too warm to be considering Christmas! I've been looking for decorations we we'll certainly need to renew some, and also been thinkng about possible Christmas gifts. The only one I've definitely came up with so far is a Clipify subscription for my nephew who talks about picking up videographer courses next year (if we would stay into that, for sure!). Hoping to get more ideas from this thread, too 🌲

NoWordForFluffy · 18/08/2022 18:40

Evening!

Another busy old day. Unsurprisingly!

The weather has cooled enough that Christmas is definitely on my mind...I'm very pleased that I finished DH's presents (birthday and Christmas) today!

I was like that last Friday, 70. Clammy as hell!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/08/2022 20:22

I used my Good Housekeeping Christmas magazine to make a pasta bake , it was like the advert for those Vegan no-chicken- Dippers where the little girl asks her Mum if she worried above cooking something nobody liked .... the night you made that thing

Weelllll , it was That Thing , and it won't be on the Christmas Menu Xmas Grin

Liverpoolhev · 18/08/2022 20:23

Oh and my niece is 16 in November and I saw Amazon had a deal on GHDs so got them for her x

Morning!

Its going to be nice here today. We didn't get much rain though, sadly. We've some forecast next week, so hopefully that does arrive!

The starlings sound happy this morning. They've taken to hanging out on the houses, not in trees!

Hello and Happy Friday!

First Christmas shopping done yesterday- 5 chocolate oranges 😂for my sister and BIL in Germany.

BiddyPop · 19/08/2022 11:01

I'm starting to think about the Holiday Grand Plan again, as back to school looms. Just to get ahead on an autumn clean of the house and trying to get organised.

2under2howscary · 19/08/2022 11:40

Hello! So yesterday it was freezing! Like had the fire on freezing. So I had a burst of motivation and

  • put away the really summery clothes
  • put on fresh bedding for all, including two cushions that say snuggle season
  • got out the autumnal wax melts

Only for it to be 27 degrees today !! It was supposed to be 12 and thunderstorms according to the Met.

I've jinxed myself haven't I :(

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/08/2022 11:50

As soon as the schools go back here we get balmy tropical weather !

BiddyPop · 19/08/2022 15:57

As soon as the schools go back here we get balmy tropical weather !

I personally am praying for that - I need at least a couple of days when the sun is shining and I can enjoy a morning coffee in the garden and maybe even take a half day and relax in peace with just DDog. And not have hockey balls flying all over or a teenage attitude to me daring to breathe...

I have started to clear away some clutter spots though, organised dentist/hairdresser/physio appointments for me, and finished 1 more XSt parts on a bookmark. (I still have 1 final XSt to do for family, but I've been invited to a birthday party next weekend, I'm going to go, and the hostess really loves crafty things so I made a personalised one for her).

But I also lit the stove last night (well, burned confidential papers - but it was nice dancing flames!).

Wouldloveanother · 19/08/2022 15:59

I think I’ll put away the summer clothes and get the throws out etc mid September. August is too early for me you risk a heatwave with all these blankets everywhere 😂 DD needs some autumn clothes, so will peruse the sales for wellies, knitted jumpers etc.

DreamingofItaly2023 · 19/08/2022 16:19

I am also starting to think about the Grand Plan biddy! waiting until DS is back at school though. Also need to stock up on autumn clothes.

2under2howscary · 19/08/2022 19:26

@Wouldloveanother I'm very northern! It's actually cooled down again to 11 degrees tonight. Everyone's back in dressing gowns!

I couldn't have coped with the heatwave London etc experienced!

Wow we are south east and still in shorts! Was a bit cooler and drizzly this morning but really warm again this afternoon

NoWordForFluffy · 19/08/2022 19:47

I was thinking about the Grand Plan too recently. I did do a big clean recently though (late for me), so I'm ahead of myself a bit!
