It feels bizarre setting up the first Christmas thread on one of the hottest days of the year, yet here we are!

Lovely to see you all; take a seat and grab a mince pie as they get passed around.

Please do alert me to anything for the next thread's page of links (I'm starting fresh this year). Hope you've had a good year and looking forward to celebrating and sharing our bargain buys.

Thanks TrixitySmith he has something similar to that

Algebraicyourleg · 14/08/2022 09:02

If anyone uses poundtoy (I just did a shop for stocking fillers for my nearly 3yr old twins and nearly 1year old) then there is a 30% discount with code AFFSPECIAL30

friskybivalves · 14/08/2022 09:18

Oooh thanks Reastie.

Last year I remember q few of us cleaned up on gretnagreen.com as well as that heritage site - the Cashmere and lambswool deals were great in the gretna green sales. They do have a sale on atm. My phone has just done a mad reboot which means I can't copy even links but they have 50% off some scarves and shawls.

Also nice reductions on leather bags etc, including Cambridge satchels. Still well over £100 mind you, but if you know someone is yearning for one...

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 14/08/2022 09:26

Bakedin have a good sale on at the mo Inc this mug with mug cake kit for £4.99 bakedin.co.uk/collections/mug-cakes/products/sticky-toffee-pudding-mug-gift-set

They have some cute cookie in a bottle kits too for 6.99

I have popped a £10 off first order link on referral thread too

jumbletumblebumble · 14/08/2022 09:56

For those interested in hooded towels the B&Q site is actually sourcing them from onlinehomeshop where there is more choice. They are cheaper on there, but you do have to pay postage.

I think, from memory, a lot of used onlinehomeshop a few years ago for weighted blankets.

Thank you for the Works codes, I’ve just treated myself to a little supply of crafting bits ready for the Poncetastic thread and the 10 Hairy Mclairy books for £10 (not for me!)

I am all ears for bargains/ideas for my DDs first birthday in Nov and Christmas. She loves her Toomies eggs box which is down to £7.50 on Amazon if anyone has a baby to buy for

I have the eggs on my list- baby will be 10m at Christmas. Is £7.50 a good price? I wasn't sure what they normally are

psuedocream3 · 14/08/2022 10:18

@Cuwins I think amazons average price is £7.56 according to camelcamelcamel, I bout them at £5 something but they are often between £5-£6 on there. One of the most used toys my five have had - they love/d them.

weebarra · 14/08/2022 10:28

Thanks Reastie! I've been avoiding the prequel threads till the summer holidays. DCs go back to school on Wednesday - it's DS2's birthday on Friday and DD's on Sunday so a busy time.
Was in Smyths yesterday and the Our Generation gourmet kitchen seems substantially cheaper than anywhere else?

@NightOwl101 I also have football mad DC. A couple of years ago I got them a light up football off Amazon. I thought it was going to be a gimmick and probably not work but it was brilliant. Basically, when you kick it, it activates a light in the ball and so they can play in the dark. Sometimes they wear headlamps so they can see each other, sometimes they don't.

Thanks won't get it yet then

isthatwhatyoureallywanted · 14/08/2022 10:42

Oh, and Playmobil. I'd say follow your DC's interests and what they know. The real blooper for us was the stables as my DC have never been horse riding so didn't really know what to do with it. The school, playground, swimming pool, animals, hotel & airport were the ones they played with endlessly, essentially recreating their day to day activities and variations on that. For example, they'd do lock down drill at school
and come home and do it with the Playmobil. The bin lorry was a surprising hit! The fire station & pirate shop were both excellent toys but my two didn't use them as much. We passed the fire station on to a neighbour's son and he got hours of fun from it as he loved all things fire related.

BeastOfBODMAS · 14/08/2022 10:48

@Cuwins I paid more at my local toyshop so £7.50 seemed good to me! My 9 month old finds them totally engrossing, she will sit happily for ages

FluffyFluffMonster · 14/08/2022 12:01

These little working radios work out at £2.80 on urban outfitters with discount! Would make a great stocking filler for kids and teens.

I'm looking for some adult rapunzel pjs if anyone sees any. I thought the Disney store might sell them but they only seen to sell kids ones.

Have you tried Truffle Shufflle? They definitely do Disney pjs, not sure about rapunzel.

Has anyone seen any football related stuff for a 9 year old? I've ordered a net with holes in for tricks but it all seems to be very same same online

Might not be the sort of thing you are after but DS has a board game called Football Billionaire which he enjoys- similar to monopoly. They also sell a travel/ card version of this on Amazon.

Also the last few years we get him a voucher for a stadium tour- for different teams, not just the one he supports. If you buy from buyagift or red letter days you can usually get a decent discount code every few weeks!

Scout2016 · 14/08/2022 12:50

@BigEaredBob thanks for this. I'm not a HP fan myself but have admired that illustrated book.
What age do people think Harry Potter is suitable for please? My DD is 6, turns 7 just after Christmas. We'd be reading it to her.

I think if your reading it to her then 7-9ish would be a great age for the first couple of books. The later ones are darker and maybe more 11+

EveLe · 14/08/2022 12:53

@mummyof2boys30 Primark do a towelling beach hoodie to fit adults.

Beach Snuddie

alrightfella · 14/08/2022 12:53

Thanks for the suggestions I've had a look (primark, truffle shuffle and character.com) but none have adult rapunzel pj's Sad

I'm surprised they are so hard to find.

Scout2016 · 14/08/2022 12:57

@Cuwins thank you!

No problem. I love HP and can't wait to read it to my daughter (a while to go yet she is only 6m!) but I would be careful not to do it too early. My dad put me off lord of the rings/the hobbit for life by trying to read it to me when I was about 7!
