I simply couldn't find anything. He is impossible. :(

@Nordicmom

We both get ourselves bigger presents of exactly what we want but I also got my DH
  • 2 books
  • a whisky bottle ( something he hadn’t tried before that wasn’t cheap with great reviews so hopefully he’ll like it )
  • pyjamas because he always needs more
  • a nice woolly sweater from a brand he likes in a neutral colour I normally get these right and it can be returned if need to
  • a few yummy treats

I don’t believe anyone is impossible if nothing else a gift card and something yummy they like to eat / drink

Mine is pretty impossible. He doesn't drink, doesnt read, not that interested in food as gifts, clothes aren't gifts for us. He is a right PITA.

Bollocks...no one is impossible to buy for!

Give us some details about him (age, likes, dislikes, hobbies, interests etc) and you will get a list
Please would you help me as well because I want to get something fabulous for my Dh.
Hes 59, we go hiking but ge has digital mapping subscriptions, all the kit he needs.
We have a house full of alcohol and he hardly drinks.
He owns a clothing store so gets what he needs( and means at retail prices in other shops !🤣🤣
He doesnt like, ir should I say not keen on books.
He has a couple of injuries so pigeon shooting and the like are not feasible.
We eat out in nice restaurants a lot so it wouldnt be a treat for home.
He is frightened of heights.
Please help I'm quite desperate now!

I try and think of things that will improve hubby's quality of life - we think I have ADD (waiting to be assessed) and one of his biggest bug bears is I end up leaving his mail in strange spots and they don't get open - so I got him a clear A4 document holder, I've bought stick on letters and I'll put his name on it, and I've stuck a magnet strip on the back. Its to go on the fridge so I can remember one place to put his mail and he will know where to look for it. He will love it.

Obsidiansphere · 23/12/2021 13:45

Will he be bothered if you haven’t got him anything?

RedskyThisNight · 23/12/2021 13:46

Does he want a gift? If not, then just don't bother. DH and I agreed a long time ago that we wouldn't get gifts just for the sake of it. We sometimes organise tickets to a show or similar that we can both enjoy together, instead.

supergloo · 23/12/2021 13:47

@secretrugbyfan He is 57, has no interests- I have a longer list of what he wouldn't like - experiences, any food or drink gifts, clothes (boring), gaming, tech, books, sports, dining out.

Reverse issue here - I've got DH quite a few things I think he'll enjoy/make use of and I know he's got me nothing other than a pair of scissors I sent him a link to on amazon. I don't think I'm difficult to buy for - I've got 4 different perfumes I like, a lotion set of any of them would be quite lovely. But unless I send him a link to it, it doesn't happen. He spent an hour finding Lego gifts for his nephews on Amazon - why can't he do the same for me....

I'm just going to buy the stuff for myself I think!

foreverandalways · 23/12/2021 13:50

My son is difficult to buy for, he is 50, and paralysed from the chest down after an accident years ago, so always a wheelchair user, he has loads of techno stuff, and musical equipment etc, and not too bothered about fancy clothes etc. He lives in a farmhouse place in the woods, and has two dachshunds, who he takes for walks everyday. he ties their leads to the wheelchair, So have bought him a powerful head torch with a big range of light,as he goes out at night sometimes in the dark woods.

He has a cat as well, so supoose I will get the pets some treats as well,!!

TempNameChangexx · 23/12/2021 13:51

To everyone: Christmas gifts aren't compulsory, adults shouldn't have to be bought a gift!!

In our family we don't really do Christmas pressies unless you happen to see something that one of the others might like - none of this nonsense about buying something just because "they have to have something to open on Christmas Day"...

I probably buy my family more gifts randomly during the year than I ever would have done if we still did the apparently obligatory Christmas presents.

Do a £50 online donation to your local foodbank and give something to someone who really needs it !!

1000 mile socks. Best socks ever. Bit late to order online. Amazon might I suppose.

Or maybe a virgin experience day?

You've obviously got a very open marriage...

Digital radio? Really good quality coffee? Too late now but might be good for a birthday present ordinance survey map from the year he was born of his favourite walking area iTunes / google store voucher / Amazon voucher etc Decent headphones Funky laces for walking bootsGrin Wood whittling set (my dh looked bemused when I gave this to him last year, it's now his favourite hobby, he's made some stunning stuff from drift wood and whittles whilst I mess around with dc on the beach!) A homemade voucher offering to pay for next pub meal following or during a long walk. Really good torch

As a fellow daschund lover (they take over your life) can you get him a voucher to commission a portrait of his dogs?

A stone sundial for the garden?

An electric over-blanket for relaxing on the sofa?

A painting?

Grandville · 23/12/2021 13:58

What does he do for work? What does he do of an evening? What might he do on a weekend?

Does he have anything you could upgrade to a better or luxury version of?

My parents are challenging to buy for and I got them both Ember mugs which will keep a hot drink hot for 90mins off charge or indefinitely on the coaster.

mam0918 · 23/12/2021 13:58

I always find this bizarre... how can you be married to some and not know even the basics of what they like?

This isn't new temp Cathy in the office Xmas santa it's your DH, you must know something about his tastes, hobbies, interests, style, needs, quirks, etc...

Sometimes I struggle for a big gift as due to budget I have bought the most affordable option over the last decade and a half and still haven't found a way to get an Aston Martin for him lol but the little things (his favorite alcohol/chocolate/cheese, clothes in the brand he likes, books of people he looks up to, tickets to a band/show/museum he likes etc...) aren't hard.

I even knew those basics of my old roommate who I didn't even like that much lol.

Abigail12345654321 · 23/12/2021 13:58

Water flossers are a game changer! If he has teeth, a water flosser would be useful!

Some people buy what they want and need throughout the year so at Christmas there isn’t a list of things they would like to receive…….

I do know the basics of what he likes. The point is he has NO interests. I am very clear on what he doesnt like, as above.

We never get each other anything, we stopped after the first year or so when we realised that our preferences are so particular that we'd rather choose for ourselves. So we just go ahead and order ourselves something nice. I lie about it to family and friends, as I think they'd be appalled!
