I do , but sister doesn’t . Just wondering what others do . I find it makes it more magical them being wrapped as gives more of a surprise and takes longer to explore them all .
What do others do ? 😊

Of course! Unwrapping is the fun part for kids.

Starcaller · 22/12/2021 16:50

I do! Feeling/hearing the scrunching of the wrapping through the stocking is such a tangible memory from childhood. Plus keeps them occupied for longer having to unwrap everything Grin

Akire · 22/12/2021 16:51

Yes takes them
Longer and delays the going downstairs and more time in bed.

BettyOBarley · 22/12/2021 16:51

Same as you - unwrapping is the fun bit for kids!!

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 22/12/2021 16:52

yup. slows 'em down.

cliffdiver · 22/12/2021 16:55

Yes.

I've only ever heard of them not being wrapped on MN.

Saisong · 22/12/2021 16:56

I used to when they were little. Then decided it was way too much faff and ruined my Xmas eve vibe (cos who has time to wrap before then). Now I'm proudly wrapping free, and as a bonus it helps the planet a tiny little bit.

CrumpledCrumpet · 22/12/2021 16:58

Wrap. More fun.

Thecomfortador · 22/12/2021 17:05

No, my mum never did and I do the same as her. They have one of dad's socks rather than a stocking as well.

Misshape · 22/12/2021 17:07

Yes I wrap them all apart from any little sweets etc

JisForJellyfish · 22/12/2021 17:08

I do, unwrapping is more fun and makes it last longer

actiongirl1978 · 22/12/2021 17:10

Absolutely but use more paper than necessary and only one piece of tape.

I can't imagine not seeing them open their stocking presents though they are left on the mantlepiece at night then when filled are left on the floor propped against main present. No one goes down until everyone is ready. Absolutely everything gets opened at once in whichever order the child chooses.

Notgotanyidea · 22/12/2021 17:13

Yes and there is always one really boring present ( glue stick, tea spoon, ruler) that is absolutely covered in tape and so really difficult to open. Something my Grandad did and I’ve carried on.

TwinkleTwinkleLittleStarFightr · 22/12/2021 17:14

I wrap everything except sweets, but (ironically, given I don’t wrap the sweets) I use thin paper sweetie bags to wrap with because it’s so quick. Plus they are so thin it’s less waste (and recycle-able ).

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 22/12/2021 17:18

Yes I wrap everything- not where near as good if unwrapped

stargirl1701 · 22/12/2021 17:20

No. We use fabric wrapping under the tree but stocking gifts are unwrapped.

DramaAlpaca · 22/12/2021 17:21

At Christmas I wrap anything that moves

champions55 · 22/12/2021 17:25

No I've never heard of that. Jeezo there's so many presents to unwrap it wld be overkill in this household.

AegonT · 22/12/2021 19:36

No we don't. It is a standard sized stocking and lots of the gifts inside are tiny so would be annoying to wrap. 6 year old takes them out fairly quickly but then spends ages examining each one and staring in wonder at all the stuff she's got. She opens it in her PJs before breakfast. Wrapped gifts under the tree are opened once everyone is dressed and we've eaten breakfast.

Lovemusic33 · 22/12/2021 19:39

I’m not wrapping them this year, usually mumsnet persuades me to wrap 🤣. I just hate all the waste and they have loads of tree presents to unwrap after breakfast so the pile of paper is already big without added extras.

starsparkle08 · 22/12/2021 19:48

If you don’t wrap , how do you hide them as easily . Maybe I’m being daft as my son is 10 with SEN and presents wrapped and hidden on top of wardrobe

No, and mine were never wrapped as a child. I have lovely magical memories of my stocking and my kids love theirs.

Plus it's better environmentally but that's more of a bonus than a deciding factor.😂

I just hide the stuff in a box or a suitcase. 🙂

starsparkle08 · 22/12/2021 20:28

Good idea hiding in a suitcase

CiaoForDiNiaoSaur · 22/12/2021 20:31

Nope. Waste of paper and tape and time. The stocking is the wrapping.

Hiding places include.
The airing cupboard.
The cleaning cupboard.
Under the bottom drawer in my chest of drawers.
In my underwear drawer.

Riverlee · 22/12/2021 20:33

Yes, always wrap the presents. I usually buy paper just for the stockings, usually with a Father Christmas pattern on it.
