I do , but sister doesn’t . Just wondering what others do . I find it makes it more magical them being wrapped as gives more of a surprise and takes longer to explore them all .
What do others do ? 😊

The waste of paper and time argument- isn’t that all presents then?!

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 22/12/2021 20:37

@Akire

Yes takes them Longer and delays the going downstairs and more time in bed.
This is the one and only reason we even have a stocking 🤣
Tomthumbsbigbum · 22/12/2021 20:40

Nope. I gave up a few years ago. I ain't got the time or patience for that shit Grin.

In today's world it's also pretty wasteful. My mum didn't wrap our stocking presents. It was still very exciting digging around the stocking and wondering what you'd pull out.

SquigglePigs · 22/12/2021 20:40

We wrap some but not all. Nice mix.

getsanta · 22/12/2021 20:41

Interesting. I honestly didn't realise wrapping stocking gifts was a thing. May try it.

sadpapercourtesan · 22/12/2021 20:42

We wrap three or four special ones for each stocking, and the rest goes in unwrapped.

ldontWanna · 22/12/2021 20:45

I don't. All her presents are wrapped and in the sofa storage space things and the stocking stuff is in a carrier bag, in a box in the Monica cupboard.

Other presents aren't in a stocking so "need" to be wrapped.
thethoughtfox · 22/12/2021 20:56

It never occurred to me to wrap stocking gifts. I loved the feeling around and trying to work out what each present is.

Juanbablo · 22/12/2021 20:59

Yes we do. Even the chocolate! It's part of the fun, all the unwrapping.

Heckythump1 · 22/12/2021 21:00

It never occured to me to NOT wrap stocking presents :P

How big are the stockings?! Ours have 3 each!
Wimblingwombling · 22/12/2021 21:09

Yes! That’s half the fun!

Me neither. I assumed everyone wraps them also.
Fabuleuse · 22/12/2021 21:30

No, I don't wrap stocking presents. The stocking is the wrapping. I didn't have a stocking at all growing up. I got loads of presents - my parents just never did the stocking thing!

Covidclaire · 22/12/2021 21:34

@starsparkle08

If you don’t wrap , how do you hide them as easily . Maybe I’m being daft as my son is 10 with SEN and presents wrapped and hidden on top of wardrobe
I have gifts stashed all over the place. I bet I’m still finding some stuff at Easter.
MsFanciful · 22/12/2021 22:01

Nope, in my mind the stocking is the wrap. I don't fancy wrapping a net of chocolate coins or Lindt santa etc.

Mine were never wrapped as a child either.

FireworkParrot · 22/12/2021 22:48

I never used to wrap as often the items are small and fiddly and really the stocking is the wrapping but I saw a tip on here that was a game changer for me and I now like a PP wrap in paper sweet bags. Bulk buy on Amazon and I have red and white striped ones that remind me of candy canes. Put the present in the bag, roll over the top and one piece of tape. Job done!

Stockings are Father Christmas presents in our house so it keeps the wrapping different to other presents. I just have to make sure my stash of bags stays well hidden from the DC so they never spot it.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/12/2021 22:54

I do (even though the dses are all grown ups now). I started when they were little, because I think wrapping the presents means it takes longer to empty the stocking - I had visions of them simply upending it, and then that’s the stocking done.

But it does mean a lot of wrapping - as well as the dses, I do a stocking for dh, and I’m doing one for ds1’s fiancée this year, because they are going to be here - so with 11-odd presents in each stocking, that was 55 things to wrap - not to mention the other presents.

I think I will be scaling things back from next year!

Timeisavirtue · 22/12/2021 23:33

Oh yes, we’ve always done it, my parents did it for me... now I use it as a sure fire way to time waste before we all congregate in the lounge. So when they wake up they come to us, we make them open one stocking present at a time, gives me time to get fully prepared for what’s about to come. Usually takes about 45 minutes 🥰

DrJakes · 22/12/2021 23:39

Wrap everything, including satsuma, but thanks to Mumsnet, I now use wrapping foil which is massively quicker.

DockOTheBay · 22/12/2021 23:42

Yes I love wrapping and the kids love unwrapping!
They are the only presents I don't use fabric wrap or paper tape for as I fell like it would be a giveaway 🤣
Has to be different paper to all the other presents - although still recyclable.

BestZebbie · 22/12/2021 23:46

I wrap stocking gifts in thin cartoony paper with a santa/reindeer/elf pattern of some sort......because I insist that all our under-the-tree gifts (visible throughout December) use my fancy stash of plain jewel coloured papers that match the tree decorations etc, so it adds extra plausibility that the garish santa paper would not come from Mummy.

:-p

Deadringer · 22/12/2021 23:47

Hell no, too much hassle. We used to hide them in locked suitcases in the garage, now we keep them at dm's house.

getsanta · 22/12/2021 23:50

I hate to be a kill joy, but the environmental impact of this wrapping isn't great.
