Overnight, DS has acquired an interest in wearing nice gear. He was a band tshirt gut and has told me he would love some graphic Ts but is "over" the band T shirt thing. He is NOT into football.
I am so out of the loop - what are the "on trend" brands now for lads?

Just give him cash and/or take him shopping

AperolWhore · 19/12/2021 08:02

Get him a voucher for flannels, designer tee’s are all the rage at the moment and he can pick his own. He could be looking at Hugo boss, DSquared, Gucci is really popular too x

MarleneDietrichsSmile · 19/12/2021 08:04

My 16 yr old has suddenly gotten into clothes, he loves the graphic tees from Urban Outfitters

weaselwords · 19/12/2021 08:04

My 20 year old like Urban Outfitters t shirts.

EeeByeGummieBear · 19/12/2021 08:12

Superdry?
Do you have a JD Sports near you? They stock 'sporty' brands, plus a few others that my DSs wore for a bit ( they have now acquired a preference for no labels- much to my delight!)
Flannels, in my experience, is the high end names, more expensive. So it depends on what 'names' he is in to.
But a voucher is good- unless you know which labels he is into, otherwise you could get it very, very wrong!
I've always made sure if I buy my DSs clothes I get a gift receipt and there is a clear understanding that I won't be offended if they return it. However, I also, like PP ask them to send links to exactly what they would like to make it easier for me and to ensure they get exactly what they would like, because I think being a teenager is hard enough (especially these days), and if they don't mind not having a surprise at Christmas, I don't mind either

HelpINeeedSomebody · 19/12/2021 08:16

I think it honestly depends on where in the country you live snd sometimes on what his friends group wears.

I'd stick to money or outright ask him which one.

Yes, some of the examples given are what he would say are a bit chavvy or a bit too "street". I think, anyway...who knows??

My son likes BÄAS t-shirts.

supergloo · 19/12/2021 08:24

@LemonJelly76

Try 'Last Exit to Nowhere' tshirts
I have just gone down this glorious rabbit hole.

I agree. Definitely not Next though or Superdry.

Could he have a browse on Asos? See if anything catches his eye.

I've a 17 year old nephew who isn't really interested in what he wears in that he doesn't want to do the choosing part but he also wants to look good. At the start of sixth form college in September his sister got him clothes from H&M mostly. He wears plain t shirts with flannel shirts or what my niece calls 'non-graphic graphic Tees' Confused They can have a picture with no writing or writing with no picture.

SpookyScarySkeletons · 19/12/2021 08:27

@Unescorted

Universal voucher - cash or the promise to buy him one when he finds the one he likes. There is no point trying to second guess as what ever you get will not be right (first rule of teen club)
I wholeheartedly agree!

My 17yo asked for converse and vans this year. I would not dare choose them myself!! She has sent me screenshots of the "acceptable" ones.

ponkydonkey · 19/12/2021 08:29

My son 16 likes clothes from depop

I gave him my PayPal login and said he could spend x amount

He bought loads of very good quality things all second hand.

He does love clothes and knows exactly what he likes though!

He wears a lot of supreme, Hoodrich, true religion and basics from h & m too.

SpookyScarySkeletons · 19/12/2021 08:29

And stay away from superset it's only for "old people like you and dad"

Just let him find some that he likes then order them, I do this with dd as she likes quirky T-shirt’s rather than trendy/street style. I usually run things by her first before buying unless it’s something I 100% know she will love.

PickElaine · 19/12/2021 08:35

@LemonJelly76

Try 'Last Exit to Nowhere' tshirts

These are fabulous!

As an example, if this shirt was in Next it would also have a picture of a Cadillac on it and probably also a Back to the Future logo.

Try…
Threaheads
Emp
Dirty velvet
Urban outfitters

HunkyPunk · 19/12/2021 08:36

My teen sends me URLs to what he wants. It's not very Christmassy but it also means I don't waste money.

Mine have been doing this on their Xmas lists for some time now. It’s the only way! My advice would be, if you’re going to get a surprise present for teens and older, don’t let it be clothes!

girlmom21 · 19/12/2021 08:37

I know teenage boys who wear Next clothing Hmm

Agreed that the womens stuff is for middle aged and beyond but the mens definitely isnt.

BeyondOurReef · 19/12/2021 08:39

Yes. My H can’t quite grasp that he is not, in fact, cool and trendy. Young people are not looking at him thinking he’s really cool; the brands he chooses are not what they’d wear.

For example, he bought himself a pair of (ugly) white trainers. They’re similar in design to bike Air Force 1s. But they’re not AF1s. And he doesn’t understand that he’s done the middle aged man missing the (young people’s) point thing. Which would be fine except that he thinks he’s ‘down with the kids’ and it’s starting to become embarrassing. 🤣

He’d be straight down to superdry.

LizzoBorden · 19/12/2021 08:42

Next and Superdry are in a race to the bottom when it comes to cool tbf

WildCherryBlossom · 19/12/2021 08:44

Sometimes uniqlo do collaborations with artists and produce some cool graphic Ts.

Otherwise RedBubble. But probably won't arrive by Christmas - get him a voucher and he can customise the style, colour, graphic etc.

PurpleMustards · 19/12/2021 08:46

Ask him to find some he likes or give him cash. That Last Exit to Nowhere shop would be so naff for a teenager. It's more geeky adult man fodder.
