A calculator that beeped when I pressed the buttons. (Sooo high tech in 1979)

A SIMON game. Remember them?

Hungry Hippos

dada - he'd be mortified

Papa I meant

tortoiseSHELL · 19/12/2007 17:00

I misread that as 'your favourite president' and I was sitting here aghast that any child would even KNOW a president, let alone have preferences.......

FrostyGlassSlipper · 19/12/2007 17:07

A Sindy horse and Barbie Camper van come close. But the absolute best was......a real typewriter.

AnAngelWithin · 19/12/2007 17:10

the horse 'keyper'
quint dolls
tiny tears

MellowChristmasEveryone · 19/12/2007 17:13

Oh a real typewriter

Methinks I was a bit spoiled as achild actually, now I can see why I had my hair pulled, lots!!

kittylouise · 19/12/2007 17:15

Yes, I was a bit spoilt materially as well.

Remember getting punched when I was 6 because I got 50p off the tooth fairy instead of 20p like everyone else.

MellowChristmasEveryone · 19/12/2007 17:16

I think it was my pram which caused my all my child-hood problems.

stillaslowreader · 19/12/2007 17:23

A real paintbox

JOSScinnnamonSTICK · 19/12/2007 17:57

Astra - I still have my Fisher Price garage complete with coloured cars etc. My DSs love it and were playing with it only this afternoon.

Fave pressie ever - a dart board when i was about 8. So unexpected and so much fun!

In retrospect - do you think my parents wanted a boy?

think my dad wanted a boy too, he got me a hornby railyway set one year. he spent ages laying it out on a board for himself me.

ChippolataMinton · 19/12/2007 18:40

Sindy and her bright red convertible MGB
Or one of those cadbury miniatures chocolate machines. Or some tiny japanese flowers that unfurled in water, or a fortune telling fish.

Maidamess · 19/12/2007 18:43

Fortune telling fish! I bought one for my daughters stocking last year. She hated it, it kept telling her she was envious or something.

Living Barbie! She was the first Barbie with bendable elbows as well as bendable knees. She came in a gold and sliver lame swimsuit with an orange mesh hooded jacket thing. My grandmother also made lots of clothes for her in the fashions of the times, some made with offcuts from my clothes so we matched.

I've still got her (and my other Barbies). We get them out when little girls visit and are unimpressed by DS's cars and stuff.

Smithagain · 19/12/2007 20:05

A digital watch

And a dolls house that my Dad made for me, including lots of the furniture. Goodness knows how he managed to keep it a secret - they even packed it in the car and drove 300 miles for Christmas Day at the grandparents without me realising.

And DD1 has now inherited it - complete with the original lurid 1970s wallpaper, but a new set of Playmobil room sets. I just love watching her play with it, like I did. (sigh!)

PestohohohoMonster · 19/12/2007 20:13

A red sledge.

I still have it.

We bring it out every time it snows and it still makes me and the dds

mumbear · 19/12/2007 20:26

I always wanted an ala carte kitchen. Never got one, my tight arse mother said £40 was too much

MuffinMclay · 19/12/2007 20:28

A bookcasefor my bedroom.

aPartridgeInapAeroTree · 19/12/2007 20:30

Tiny tears and a pram to put her in when I was about four or five and my bike when I was eight.

TheBlonde · 19/12/2007 20:31

Sindy doll house

ShinyHappyStarOfBethlehem · 19/12/2007 20:32

A racoon teddy bear with a radio in it. I called him Rikki. My dad got him for me for my 9th birthday. I still sleep with him but he has tights stuffed in him now instead of a radio..

aPartridgeInapAeroTree · 19/12/2007 20:34

Oh, and a stylophone when I was ten or so. Loved tha and was reminded of it recently when I saw one in the 'I want one of those' catalogue. I seriously contemplated buying one for the sake of sentimentality (but have seen sense and decided against)!!

JetPeanut · 19/12/2007 20:36

Tape recorder. The kind where you had to pree 'play' and 'record' simultaneously. I used to make up my own radio shows, and would put it next to the telly and tape Top of the Pops.
