If you include Secret santa e.g at work, Scouts leader, neighbours or whoever is on your list.

I have an acquaintance who said he bought for his wife, son and one niece. He is about 65

I feel quite overwhelmed with gift buying. We have about 75 people on our list Shock
This includes a lot of family - DH's side. A lot of the presents are token presents e g £7 voucher to cousins of his I would not recognise but he has always done this and doesn't want to stop.
We have lots of Godchildren between us too and their parents are old friends we buy stuff for. Nothing too expensive but it does add up.

I can't see it changing but wondering if you anyone else has a similarly high number of presents to buy

Mmm.
I decided this year just my mum and dad, son, husband ,4 nieces and nephews (although son and husband require more than 1).
However
my lovely auntie has been in touch loads and has had a shit year. +1
my best female friend +2
my best work friend +3
my two assistants +4&5
my neighbour , who we exchange gifts with that I wanted to stop buying for but has had a really shit time with Covid +6
old friends who are “bringing our gifts round this weekend” + 7 ( plus extra wine and food for when they come round).

So 15 people.

irregularegular · 13/12/2021 21:50

Relatively few I think?

Obviously DH and kids. Also, my two sisters and their families. So that's just 11 "proper" ones that I always buy for.

One secret santa with friends. I don't have any friends that I buy for routinely, it depends on whether we are visiting, whether the mood strikes etc. I think two this year. We're past the age of teachers presents, childminder present etc.

So 14 this year.

Plus a few bits of cash for postman etc. Used to get small gift and larger voucher for cleaner when we had one regular woman but now have multiple cleaners through agency so not sure what to do.

lightisnotwhite · 13/12/2021 21:51

And best friend, husband and work assistant all have birthdays in December.

RavingAnnie · 13/12/2021 21:55

75! What's your budget?

We have 13 and I think that's too many 😬

irregularegular · 13/12/2021 21:57

We don't buy any presents for DHs side. It's not really part of their culture and we don't see them over Christmas most years (they live in a different country).

CrazyBaubles · 13/12/2021 21:57

I've cut it down a lot (it was almost 30 people a few years ago).
Now we buy for 15 people:
4 in DH family
6 in my family (parents, 1 auntie, 3 kids)
I also buy for 3 friends and 2 children of friends.

*We agreed with most of DH family to do something charitable in lieu of giving each other gifts so this year I bought for 5 additional people (children via a local Santa scheme) in their place so really we've bought for 20 people this year.

75 is a bit mad OP. Chances are at least half those people (especially the ones who get token presents) either wouldn't notice if you stopped or wouldn't mind at all if you decided not to it any more.

Vbree · 13/12/2021 21:59

4 - husband, 18 month old son, childminder and cleaner. Don't expect gifts from anyone else in the family and it makes it stress free.

Apart from parents, we don't buy for adults unless they buy for our children and are childless themselves

We buy for neighbours as they are great friends of ours - usually make up a gift bag of wine, nice chocs and a gift for their daughter

One secret Santa at work

Stopped buying for brothers and sisters at Christmas as soon as they had kids. I don't buy for any friends or friends' kids.

I usually buy for my team at work too. So two or three more.

We buy for forty-two people plus our three children.
We also have thirteen Birthdays in November and December.
It's mostly on my DH's side as they breed like rabbits

SleepingStandingUp · 13/12/2021 23:03

On and on top of my 50 for Xmas, I have a birthday plus two of my kids and one nephew and one niece in Dec

boyboyboydogdog · 14/12/2021 03:19

Husband if I can think of something
3 children
1 partner
2 friends
1 dog!
Don't buy for siblings or their children
75 is completely ridiculous!

Topseyt · 14/12/2021 03:34

I buy for my DH, my three adult DDs and my mother. So 5 people.

75 people is an absolutely insane number. You must be a better person than I am because I would throw a hissy fit over that and refuse.

GiltEdges · 14/12/2021 03:41

At last count (before deleting this year's list) I think it was either 47 or 49, though admittedly that included 6 family dogs and 7 of the staff at DS's nursery, so none of those were exactly big presents.

LostInTheColonies · 14/12/2021 03:54

DD. Nieces, nephews. So 6 kids in total.
One adult (we do Secret Santa for all adults in family so only one gift needed, with a max. value on it.).

10 at work, my family is 14, husbands family is 7 plus husband 1. So 32 in total. No wonder I am knackered!

Echoesandsilence · 14/12/2021 06:23

15 unless I have forgotten someone.
I forgot one of the support teachers that DS see's once a week so ordered a diary for her yesterday. Told him yesterday evening and he said "do you mean Mr X?" - because the teacher I was thinking of left last year. A diary with butterflies on it doesnt seem as suitable for a male teacher Confused
