Kids breakfast on Christmas day

Looking for inspiration really. I have 4 and 2 yo boys. Both going abit nuts for Christmas this year. Not quite sure what to do them for Christmas day breakfast though that's special but also not going to make them go loopy on sugar. I always have bacon and cream cheese bagel, DH has salmon. Neither of which my boys will eat with gusto. Any suggestions? Dont particularly want to be slaving away cooking on the big day

I always had chocolate from my stocking on Christmas morning! Sorry if that’s not much help but it was the best!

ScouseQueen · 05/12/2021 22:18

M&S Belgian chocolate chip pancakes. Will only need warming up.

Bimblybomeyelash · 05/12/2021 22:23

Porridge with toppings. I’ll offer berries but they’ll probably go for Nutella.

tara66 · 05/12/2021 22:31

Remember to hide any chocolates that you have bought or been given or they may not want to eat any breakfast !

Lndnmummy · 05/12/2021 22:36

We do a light breakfast and everyone gets to choose.
My boys want pastries of some kind and dh normally
Smoked salmon and bagles. Im goos with a coffee and
prosecco Xmas Wink

2319inprogress · 05/12/2021 22:42

When mine were that age I used to make these
They're bigger now so they'll have whatever frozen pastries I can be bothered to shove in the oven Grin probably cinnamon swirls because they go well with chocolate

lobsteroll · 05/12/2021 22:42

Ham and cheese croissants and fruit?

Createausernametoday · 05/12/2021 22:43

This is so MN

Mine always started the day with melon boats. Sometimes with an orange slice sail.
Saw these though and I would now have melon boats full of sailing Santa's !

@Indecisivelurcher

Mine love scotch pancakes / drop scones with blueberries best, but that's quite a lot of time over the hob when I'll be there again at lunch time.
@Indecisivelurcher cook and freeze the pancakes the week before then stick them in the toaster Smile
FusionChefGeoff · 05/12/2021 22:57

Mind you, it's Christmas. Surely the only correct thing to have for breakfast is Chocolate Orange and Quality Street Grin

Some shops are doing Christmas shaped crumpets (could do a poached egg on top)

Lorw · 05/12/2021 23:09

Only acceptable thing to have for breakfast at Christmas is chocolate 😁 but that’s just me aha!

Pancakes? The ready made ones you can just whack in a toaster? 😁

Ikeameatballs · 05/12/2021 23:17

@Indecisivelurcher

And the actual pic!
I make this every year on Xmas Eve. I decorate with glacé cherry “baubles” and icing “snow”. Delicious and so easy but completely full of sugar!
Shouldbedoing · 05/12/2021 23:20

We have part baked bread rolls - novelty value but something relatively sensible to counteract the sugar

Changechangychange · 05/12/2021 23:26

I’m working Christmas morning. DH and DS are making crepes, then we are doing a late lunch when I get back.

Happens to be DS’s all-time favourite food (it is the flipping part he likes, plus loves lemons). But also super easy to make.

Personally I like breakfast to be drawn out, because when I was a kid we had a big full English and I appreciate now that it delayed the present opening and the subsequent anti-climax of everything being opened before noon. It also kept us going for an evening Christmas dinner.

So I wanted to carry on the tradition, but English breakfast food isn't really special for us, so we don't so that. We just have all our favourites. Pancakes, croissants, home made waffles, smoked salmon, crispy streaky bacon, homemade hollandaise sauce (the only day of the year I make it) fresh fruit, fresh coffee, fresh tea, fresh orange juice. The younger kids tend to have Santa pancakes (pancakes with squirty cream and fruit to make a Santa face) me and teen have pancakes, salmon and hollandaise, DH has bacon, syrup and fruit. We play Christmas music, the kids usually have stocking gifts to keep them busy too. Once we've finished I make a pot of tea and bucks fizz or snowballs to take into the living room for presents, noone is allowed in there before breakfast is done.

I'm working class, I promise. Grin

Normal toast! Use a gingerbread man cookie cutter and add a couple of choc chips for eyes and buttons, strawberry jam smile :)

I was going to go with scrambled eggs, but this is much better.
Mosbiusdesigns · 06/12/2021 00:06

I'll probably just whip up something like this in my dreams

Breakfast starter is always all the edible contents of their stockings (choc coins, tube of sweets, and a satsuma). We then all have toasted muffins, scrambled eggs, and smoked salmon. When DD2 was smaller, she didn't like smoked salmon so I would make sure I sat next to her to pounce on the rejected fish before DH or DD1 snaffled it Grin
If DCs want a more 'child friendly' breakfast, then I would go with toaster waffles for ease, topped with squirty cream, berries, sliced banana and a drizzle of maple syrup (mine would get a lot more than a drizzle, but you said you wanted to limit the sugar high!). It looks impressive, and DCs love watching the cream go on.
