Kids breakfast on Christmas day

Looking for inspiration really. I have 4 and 2 yo boys. Both going abit nuts for Christmas this year. Not quite sure what to do them for Christmas day breakfast though that's special but also not going to make them go loopy on sugar. I always have bacon and cream cheese bagel, DH has salmon. Neither of which my boys will eat with gusto. Any suggestions? Dont particularly want to be slaving away cooking on the big day

Kids have Nutella bagels here and a glass of fruit juice. We have bacon bagels but they prefer Nutella.

@BashfulClam

It’s the law that Christmas breakfast is chocolate coins!
Exactly!! What are these other nutters on about?!? Grin
Backtoblack1 · 05/12/2021 21:50

Gotta be bacon rolls x

nocoolnamesleft · 05/12/2021 21:51

Pains au chocolat.

lechatnoir · 05/12/2021 21:54

We make a batch of waffles the night before and then just reheat them in the morning served with really crispy bacon & maple syrup plus juice and a big pot of coffee. Usually had quite late as we're all stuffed from stocking chocolate. Bloody love Christmas morning

WorkBitch · 05/12/2021 21:54

I used to have dippy egg & soldiers.

Mine won’t eat that. They usually have scotch pancakes in the toaster. Might try & get the tree shaped crumpets this year.

stinkycheeseman · 05/12/2021 21:55

My kids get this in their Santa sack. It's extortionate for porridge, but has the wow factor, and apparently tastes amazing. One of my kids is 19 now, and she still talks about 🦕 porridge all year.

Pancakes or waffles. Or some frozen pastries that you can bung in the oven. Scrambled eggs?

Pascha · 05/12/2021 22:00

Weetabix and banana for Ds1, same as every day since the bloody dawn of time...

Eggs in some form for Ds2.

They really aren't adventurous with breakfast, just same as usual with a chocolate or two on the side.

AnotherMansCause · 05/12/2021 22:01

We usually do waffles, muffins (English not American), or crumpets. I'm making homemade waffles this year.

😮 I have never ever seen this

Lucky charms which Santa leaves Grin

CaptainCallisto · 05/12/2021 22:02

Pastries (usually croissant and pain au raisin) here with proper fresh orange juice for the kids and nice coffee for me and DH.

TheLovelinessOfBaublyDemons · 05/12/2021 22:03

Mine just have stocking chocolates.

AliceMcK · 05/12/2021 22:05

If DCs will eat bagels you can just do lots of different toppings for them to choose.

We do toast & cereal first thing then a brunch which has turned into pancakes every year. One dd just has Nutella on hers, but will also eat some sausage & bacon if pushed another bacon & maple syrup, third is all about the berries and fruit while dh and I just go with the flow.

EnglishRose1320 · 05/12/2021 22:07

Mine have always had a mini box of cereal in their stocking, something that's a bit more of a treat than what they normally have. I go to a big Sainsbury's where they sell them individually so I can pick the ones they like best.
The rule is stockings when you wake up but you can't have your other presents until you've had your cereal and got dressed. Keeps things a little calmer and adds a bit of routine that my ds with ASD needs.

There are a few ideas (and photos!) on this thread.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 05/12/2021 22:09

Croissants was always the tradition when I was growing up. My dad made proper coffee and my parents had Buck’s Fizz (I had orange juice until I was deemed old enough for a glass Xmas Grin). And breakfast was always served while opening stocking presents - and maybe one or two from under the tree - in my parents bed. I think the oven went on for the turkey while waiting for the coffee to brew..
I like the idea of Santa bringing contraband cereal though!

Helenluvsrob · 05/12/2021 22:12

A little box of cereal ( from a fancy multipack ) in their stocking will mean at least they do t just eat chocolate for breakfast 😂

It was great for mine as I was too stingy to buy actual Kellogg or the sugar coated cereals so a wee box of Frosties was a proper treat

gogohm · 05/12/2021 22:13

I was going to suggest bagels with salmon and cream cheese, mine loved them from weaning - I add wilted spinach with butter too. Sounds like you have tried and they were not keen.

French toast? Scrambled eggs? Omelette?

ufucoffee · 05/12/2021 22:14

Really? Surely breakfast on Christmas Day is a whole selection box? Grin

hivemindneeded · 05/12/2021 22:14

Ours used to have a variety pack. It is sugary but the packets are pretty tiny. You could do banana milkshake = just blend a chopped bana covered with milk and a tsp of vanilla essence. No need for added sugar.

Or scottish pancakes with Jimjam which is a chocolate spread with way way less sugar than nutella, and tastes very similar.

Or baubles on the Christmas tree: Christmas tree shaped crumpets (or cut toast into tree shape) with reduced sugar baked beans on top.

twilightermummy · 05/12/2021 22:15

I’m going to get lots of lovely fruit such as watermelon and mango etc.

When I was a kid, I’d eat chocolate all the way up to Christmas dinner. Great times!

AlwaysLatte · 05/12/2021 22:16

My husband makes waffles and maple syrup, or scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. They love all of it except the salmon.

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 05/12/2021 22:17

If they eat eggs, omelette or some form of egg on toast.

Depends what they like really!
