I'm at a loss what to get.

What she doesn't like:
She's doesn't appreciate smellys/ candles.
She drinks way too much so don't want anything alcoholic.
Clothes
Anything sweet like chocolate

Any ideas Hmm

I love my silk pillowcase even if it doesn't match the rest of our bedding Grin
I would also like cashmere wrist warmers, leather gloves, a nice scarf, a new teapot with nice tea.

I would not like anything smelly, any jewellery, biscuits, soaps, candles or makeup, and definitely wouldn't want Christmas decorations.

ExcessiveIyDisorganised · 30/11/2021 15:17

I don't mind the "Go" thing at all, no one has to reply, it's never felt rude to me.

Cinema / theatre / book / garden / farmshop / amazon giftcards
Actual books if you have an idea what sort of things I read
Cookbooks similarly
Silver stud earrings

No to smellies, pampering vouchers, candles, scarves, gloves, hats, socks, glasses or a silk pillowcase.

Sn0tnose · 30/11/2021 15:30

Have you had a look at the online gift shops at the V&A and the British Museum?

They’ve got some really nice things in there that are a bit different to what you’ll find on the high street. There are also some really good exhibitions coming up next year that you could get her tickets for if she’s anywhere near London.

Thank you for saying that, very kind of you. I didn't intend to be rude

A great shout, I'll take a look

I also love my silk pillowcase. I have 2 in fact.

MrsDThomas · 30/11/2021 16:51

Im nearing 50

I would like a nice candle, something woody/earthy from TK maxx

Earrings or necklace from a local jeweller

A bottle of pinot grigio or Cockburn port. (I know you said no alcohol but….)

Anyone local to you who does afternoon tea boxes? A voucher one.

Id hate a voucher for coffee/reusable mug.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/11/2021 18:18

I don't mind 'Go'. I do also like please and thank you. :)

For £30, as a woman in her 50s, I would like:

  • one gorgeous candle, maybe Neom
  • a huge, beautiful bunch of flowers, or a smaller bunch from a very nice florist
  • a houseplant from a nice florist in lovely packaging
  • cheese from a local shop, with nice crackers/chutney
  • one of those posh boxes of dried fruit that places like Waitrose do at Christmas
  • a nice pen and notebook
  • nice coffee/tea/olive oil/balsamic vinegar
  • a voucher for a local coffee shop
  • pretty much anything from Oliver Bonas, apart from clothes - scarves/gloves/mugs/vase/glasses/bracelet
-a couple of really gorgeous tree decorations which I'd never spend so much on myself
Beautiful3 · 30/11/2021 18:52

@steppemum yes really! I have matching pillowcases on my bed. I change mine to my spare (feather filled) silk pillowcase at night. I bought it last year. Now when I wake up, my hair looks brushed and smooth, its easier to brush in the mornings. Also my skin looks better (e.g. no crease lines on it, when waking up. I'm a front sleeper! I really rate silk pillows.

ExcessiveIyDisorganised · 30/11/2021 18:57

I had a silk pillowcase, it made zero difference to my skin and hair and felt all cold and slippery, I gave it away.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/11/2021 19:36

Apologies for my overuse of the word 'nice' especially as my 'nice' may not be her 'nice' and is therefore meaningless.

FeltCarrot · 30/11/2021 19:42

Cashmere gloves?
Liberty chilly bottle?
L’Occitane?
Emma Bridgewater mug?
Just some of the things I would like and I’m in my fifties.

@snowmanshoes

How about a hand painted gin balloon glass? Think I’ve seen them on NOTHS/Etsy and even Lisa Angel
Please no- you cant even get 50p for them in the charity shop.
buddhasbelly · 30/11/2021 19:50

Do you know if she's ever off to the gym after work (I'm assuming work secret santa) or does knitting? A bag for keeping such stuff in would be a handy gift

Hazelbazel · 30/11/2021 19:52

M&S sell cashmere socks for £30. Nobody could not want that.

HolidayTime2021 · 30/11/2021 19:53

I am 55 . If you dont know me well enough to get me a gift that I would love then please dont get me anything.

I can afford to buy anything I want myself. I dont want more tat in my life.

Most 50 year olds have all the gloves, pestles, hats, scarfs etc that they need.

If I got cashmere wrist warmers I would be contacting dignitas and putting a living will in place (that is one of my pre-determined thresholds - I have considered it at length)

HolidayTime2021 · 30/11/2021 19:54

Also on my Dignitas list.

For more unusual presents have a look at present indicatives site :-)

I seriously wouldn't want them and they would be regifted.

ExcessiveIyDisorganised · 30/11/2021 19:59

Please no to chilly or any other water bottles, re-usable or thermal mugs, we've got loads of all of them. Also no to anything Emma Bridgewater or Cath Kidston.

I've never owned cashmere socks but surely they'd wear out really quickly? Socks never last long for me.

Turtle Dove wristwarmers are nice, I've got some but would be happy with another pair in a different colour.

£30 worth of artisan British cheeses would be very much appreciated.

KaryBrown · 30/11/2021 20:09

What about socks …everybody loves socks. I just discovered sockgeeks.co.uk and I absolutely love the designers and the quality.

waltzingparrot · 30/11/2021 20:23

Is she a coffee drinker?

A nice shiny new, double walled french press and some quality coffee.

MrsSchadenfreude · 30/11/2021 20:25

Cheese
Earrings
A nice mug
Scarf
Book - Persephone books or something from the Booker shortlist
A plant
Bunch of flowers
Hand cream from L’occitane or another reasonable brand

Cissyandflora · 30/11/2021 20:27

@TheNarwhalBalloon

I just wanted to point out it's so rude to use a title as you have, with "Go" as though giving an order, and nowhere in your post do you say please or thanks. I see this all the time on facebook... We're not your minions.
Got to agree. Really annoys me too.
Cissyandflora · 30/11/2021 20:30

If she drinks a lot that’s what she probably likes. A bit sanctimonious to say she’s not having that. I’m a big fatty. Love my food. I’d be upset if someone said well she doesn’t need any more pudding.
