If so, how? And where did you get the tree/decorations? We have a mish mash of decorations and a terrible old tree that I’m going to dispose of and start afresh. However I think my decorating skills are as much to blame for the terrible looking tree we had last year as the decorations.

Do you have a real or fake tree? I’m considering investing in a good quality fake which comes with lights- any recommendations of a good one to buy?

Where do I start with buying colour co-ordinated decorations? Does anywhere sell a large pack so I don’t have to choose them myself?

@Tomeeornottomee

I really really want a proper naff 70s silver tinsel tree with multicoloured fairy lights and as many different colour, shape, sizes of tacky baubles. I’m basically trying to recreate my childhood 😂😂😂
We had felt skiers with ice lolly skis that no longer exist and until now have been unable to replace

I have had a "perfect" matching tree for years and I've got so bored of it now, it feels a bit corporate having everything in matching colour scheme, like something you get in an office, shopping centre or car showroom... This year I'm adding lots of random jumbly colours and I'm very excited about it Grin

@cheesiestwotsit Your tree is my idea of the perfect Christmas tree, beautiful.

Benjispruce5 · 28/11/2021 14:41

Are all these tree already up or are they last year’s photos? It’s getting earlier and earlier these days. I’m waiting another 2 weeks.

I don’t think this is sad at all- I think genius plan & is absolutely so this aswell!!! Kids can have fun and we can still have a beautiful artfully done tree. Win win!!

Megan2018 · 28/11/2021 15:20

Real tree, carefully curated collection over 20 years of individual ornaments, largely from Germany. No tinsel, no baubles.
I love ours.

Karmagoat · 28/11/2021 15:32

Love seeing everyone's lovely trees, perfect or not! Ours isn't perfect in the slightest, just a fake one from Asda that we've had for years, random mish mash of decs but most have a story or nice memory so I love my tree.

@LolaSparkle I think your trees are beautiful!

Mantlemoose · 28/11/2021 19:51

@SnekkinOnDown Ah, it looked like something else. Normal is over-rated anyway :)

Mantlemoose · 28/11/2021 19:53

My tree is perfect until DP vomits tinsel all over it but hey ho :)

LolaSparkle · 28/11/2021 19:57

@ScarlettDarling thank you so much! 🥰

santabetterwashhishands · 28/11/2021 20:09

Nope I let my kids decorate ours 🤷‍♀️

MrsJBaptiste · 28/11/2021 21:49

@yomommasmomma

Where do all the perfect tree people keep the precious, kiddie made Christmas tree crap? Especially if it doesn't fit with the colour scheme?! Hanging up the same half broken decorations that the kids made in reception etc is one of the most special elements of Christmas for us.
We don't have any? I kept loads of the kid's 'art work' when they were younger but no way was this going onto my Christmas tree 🤤
Timeisavirtue · 28/11/2021 22:28

We always have a real tree...
And our tree is perfect looking to us, it may not be uniformed, it may have baubles and decs on absolutely every branch but that’s how the kids do it and that’s how we leave it. Maybe when they are older and moved out I’ll have the tree how I want it but until then it’s all about them.
When we were younger we would decorate the tree and then when we were asleep my dad would change it around so it looked ‘perfect ‘ he thought we never noticed but we did.

Any tips on how to keep toddlers away from the tree are welcome.

We have a few big boxes with tins of beans in them that we have wrapped up to look like presents. We put them around the tree to block it off.
girafferafferaffe · 28/11/2021 22:37

We have a mishmash but they are all connected somehow to something we've done. So on our honeymoon we bought one. On a holiday to Mexico we bought one. When our daughter came along my mum started to buy her a new decoration every year. I have decorations from my very first house on the tree. And every year I forget I've got them all and taking them all out is just sooo nostalgic and I love it. We don't do tinsel. Don't do beads anymore. Just baubles. We did switch to a fake lit tree last year after having years and years of slightly wonky looking (but lovely smelling) real trees and it is so nice to just put it up and then be able to take it down with no mess! Plus no wrangling lights round the tree as well.

Thinking2041 · 28/11/2021 22:43

@cheesiestwotsit 😍😍😍 beautiful!!
That is tree to sit with a glass of wine and enjoy!

Kyliealwayshadthebestdisco · 28/11/2021 22:46

Well I think my tree is perfect! A real tree helps a lot, as does good quality lights. I have also spent a fortune on really high quality decorations over the years lol. Real glass baubles rather than plastic etc.

Just10moreminutesplease · 28/11/2021 23:59

Oh I love a mismatched tree! Of course, all Christmas trees are great… but there’s something extra special about a tree that shows a bit of family history (extra points for terrible handmade additions Grin).

LolaSparkle · 29/11/2021 17:19

@INeedSixEggs nerf gun 😂😂😂😂😂😂

lazylinguist · 29/11/2021 17:50

We always have a real tree. I used to always use largely red and gold decorations, but although I'm not fussed about a colour scheme or matching with the decor of the room, a lot of red really clashes with my living room cours, so I tend to mostly use gold and silver now, with just a few more colourful old favourites. I'm not a fan of overloaded, themed, glam trees tbh.

TheGirlWhoLived · 29/11/2021 18:13

The kids think their tree is perfect… I prefer mine though Grin
