If so, how? And where did you get the tree/decorations? We have a mish mash of decorations and a terrible old tree that I’m going to dispose of and start afresh. However I think my decorating skills are as much to blame for the terrible looking tree we had last year as the decorations.

Do you have a real or fake tree? I’m considering investing in a good quality fake which comes with lights- any recommendations of a good one to buy?

Where do I start with buying colour co-ordinated decorations? Does anywhere sell a large pack so I don’t have to choose them myself?

I really really want a proper naff 70s silver tinsel tree with multicoloured fairy lights and as many different colour, shape, sizes of tacky baubles. I’m basically trying to recreate my childhood 😂😂😂

Benjispruce5 · 28/11/2021 09:23

Ooh @Tomeeornottomee we had a white/silver/gold 70s tree. Coloured lights too. Was a bit sparse but I loved it!

My tree is beautiful. Electic with ornaments source through the decades. It is not everyones taste but then I'm unusual.

My bfs tree oh my word! He said he thought it was horrendous but it's not as bad as that. Lots of lights tho!

Belledan1 · 28/11/2021 09:35

I am rubbish at decorating. Son used to do help me. He not interested now as mid teens so last year we got a lit up non tacky decorated one we put in bay window. 6ft. I put some special ornaments on there too he made etc.

PegasusReturns · 28/11/2021 10:34

My main tree is not perfect but always beautiful.

It’s a really tree 10/11ft. 1500 fairy lights, no tinsel or beads and hundreds of decorations that I’ve collected or been given over the years.

So many of the decorations tell a story it always make me feel really emotional putting them up

Fallagain · 28/11/2021 10:58

Like everything with decor its very subjective. I prefer a real tree with lots of lights. I used to have a lovely them but now I have kids and they chose a new decorations each themselves every year. To me our tree is perfect.

Never cold lights!

SimpsonsXmasBoogie · 28/11/2021 11:00

My tree is mostly covered in home made decorations. My 2 year old loves salt dough crafts. Most of them are strange, misshapen lumps, slathered in lurid glitter glue. I absolutely adore them and it makes me smile every time I see them. My tree really is perfect for me.

PinkTonic · 28/11/2021 11:20

@BitterTits

I think perfectly symmetrical and coordinated trees belong in shopping centres, can't abide them.
Couldn’t agree more.

The theme of our Christmas tree is ‘Christmas tree’. Decorations collected over a lifetime, actually several lifetimes as I’ve got some from my grandparents as well as my parents.

ObsidianViolet · 28/11/2021 11:21

@kavalkada Got to have some nutcrackers, my nana used to take me to see the nutcracker ballet every Christmas when I was little. When I was 16 she bought me a lovely ornamental nutcracker as a Christmas present and I still have it, it takes pride of place on the mantelpiece every year Smile

lollipoprainbow · 28/11/2021 11:23

Real and no it's not perfect, i personally can't stand perfect uniform trees usually fake in my experience. Ours is usually a bit wonky and has all manner of kitsch decorations chucked on it usually by my dd9!! It's beautiful to us and gets many compliments.

DillDanding · 28/11/2021 11:23

I am one of those annoying perfect tree types.

We have real trees and the sitting room one is entirely glass. I’ve been collecting them for years.

The kitchen tree has silver and white ones.

Both have 1000 lights each.

When our kids were at primary, they used to have their own trees in their rooms. This was really a means for them to get to use their home made decs so as not to offend my perfect ones downstairs 😬.

Keeperinthecloset · 28/11/2021 12:43

Mine isn’t perfect underneath all the decorations is the saddest tree bought in the Argos sale for about 30 quid . Too sentimental to part with it

A real glass tree?! 😁

oakleaffy · 28/11/2021 13:05

@Missrabbitt
Real trees are much nicer and a mish mash of decorations Is lovely!
We have Antique glass icicles 1960,s decorations and all sorts
Have a tree you love!
Be it real or artificial

oakleaffy · 28/11/2021 13:07

Shatterproof or non breakable decorations on base of tree where pets can brush past is a good idea
A puppy had a tree over in a cafe yesterday, and as decorations were unbreakable, it was put upright again with no issues.

mibbelucieachwell · 28/11/2021 13:13

Yes and no. We get a real tree and hang loads n loads n loads of uncoordinated decorations on it. Coloured lights, and an ancient metallic paper, small narrow star Garland gets draped across the branches. It's not very noticeable but the lights pick it up and twinkle with it.

Obviously this doesn't meet your brief OP, but the last Christmas we were allowed visitors someone took a photo of it as they thought it was so nice.

RestingStitchFace · 28/11/2021 13:13

Perfect trees are absolutely not my thing. My tree is all colours, old and new, shop-bought and home-made, big and small. Christmas trees should be about memories IMO and I love pulling out the handmade deccies, the elderly and slightly faded ones etc.

yomommasmomma · 28/11/2021 13:23

Where do all the perfect tree people keep the precious, kiddie made Christmas tree crap? Especially if it doesn't fit with the colour scheme?! Hanging up the same half broken decorations that the kids made in reception etc is one of the most special elements of Christmas for us.

So sad 🙈
LolaSparkle · 28/11/2021 13:29

I absolutely love my tree and it's perfect too me! I went traditional with burgundy and gold this year and I purchased new artificial pre-lit trees from Balsam Hill and they're absolutely incredible 😍

LolaSparkle · 28/11/2021 13:31

This is my living room and I would 100% recommend this tree, it's the 7.5ft Vermont White Spruce xx

LolaSparkle · 28/11/2021 13:32

This is my kitchen tree and it's a 7.5 ft Frosted Fraser Fir.
Both trees were from Balsam Hill. Decorations are a mixture of the garden centre, John Lewis, The Range and Homesense :) xx

LolaSparkle · 28/11/2021 13:34

Oh and I also have another tree that's colourful and pretty and houses all the kids decorations but I've not put that up yet 🙈

TheChosenTwo · 28/11/2021 13:40

Oh it definitely wouldn’t make any of those ‘tasteful’ match matchy magazines for sure Grin
It’s a real tree (so symmetry is variable!) and the ornaments range from the homemade preschool offerings to the toilet roll tube angel made by the dc when they were 2 and 3, 14 years ago Grin
Dh chops the base off, he and I get it into position in the stand and then the 3dc decorate it all themselves, I string the lights on first. Then I sit with a nice drink of some kind and watch them go crazy for half an hour. I just love it. Bright, chaotic, non matching, random 4 things on one branch, nothing on the ones surrounding it… it’s perfect for us. I dare say the perfect tree people would faint looking at it Grin
I have never ever bothered moving anything when they go to bed, it’s exactly as they wanted it so it stays where it is.

frozendaisy · 28/11/2021 14:02

God no the kids decorate our tree all part of the fun!
