If so, how? And where did you get the tree/decorations? We have a mish mash of decorations and a terrible old tree that I’m going to dispose of and start afresh. However I think my decorating skills are as much to blame for the terrible looking tree we had last year as the decorations.

Do you have a real or fake tree? I’m considering investing in a good quality fake which comes with lights- any recommendations of a good one to buy?

Where do I start with buying colour co-ordinated decorations? Does anywhere sell a large pack so I don’t have to choose them myself?

Our Xmas tree is lovely looking!

The kids have decorated it since old enough to have a go!

Decs including tinsel. Random colours ages. Some sentimental. Some home made.

I love it! Reactions from those who see it range from. A massive reaction of obvious shock which they take a while to suppress. To wow! That's such a happy tree! I love it! That's what Xmas is all about!

One close friend she said. Tinsel? Tinsel is really out of fashion has been for years! I smiled and said well we like it. And then we had a nice chat about Xmas trees over the years.

If want a stylish one then I know John Lewis has themes with pics. Sure loads on Instagram other shops for inspiration.

Hope you love the end result with your tree!

Lovely! Really hits the Xmas spot for me :)

@foxgoosefinch

Don’t know why auto changed “aesthetic” in my post to “conceit”. I’m pretentious enough already but even so I wouldn’t refer to my tree look as a “conceit” 😂🤣
Foxy I felt conceit was PERFECT, in this context, thumbs up to autocorrect for once!
Pinkclarko · 27/11/2021 23:10

Er no. Like a tasteful tree but mine is full of things made from toilet roll. My mums was then best-random sparkly decorations from the 70s and 80s, golf Lakers and multi coloured lights from maybe the 60s (probably a massive fire hazard even then). Absolutely glorious.

Pinkclarko · 27/11/2021 23:11

Gold lametta. Bloody phone!

supremelybaffled · 27/11/2021 23:14

@cheesiestwotsit You win the thread. Absolutely fabulous tree, perfection. Smile

SittingontheSidelines · 27/11/2021 23:14

These are last years. The one with warm white lights is a balsam hill tree after always having real trees. I have a mixture of more expensive glass baubles and very cheap and cheerful. The coloured fairy lights tree are not led lights but the old fashioned kind, they have turquoise and pink and no harsh blue, I think they are lovely but don't like the effect of led coloured lights. I love Christmas trees. I think its impossible for a Christmas tree not to look beautiful.

In the end what makes a brilliant Xmas tree is just so personal.

There is NO right or wrong. Well maybe one with nothing at all on it!

Scrolling back sad to see one post insulting those who like plenty of decs. Dunno if more like that. Merry Xmas to you too!

Have a few drinks and chill out! Xmas is surely a time of peace and goodwill to others, that's what the carol says!

Might be worth when relaxed and tipsy, reflecting on why posting digs at people who don't feel the same as you. About something as trivial as Xmas tree decorations! Is something that appeals.

CheeseMmmm · 27/11/2021 23:16

Reading more and loving looking at the pics!

Makes me feel all christmassy!

shiningcuckoo · 27/11/2021 23:21

I've always had giant real trees but last year got a fake one just because I live in a warm climate and the real ones droop within days! I go for the mish mash look and old fashioned coloured lights. I call it vintage. In my living room I get out my collection of nativities and put them on the mantlepiece. I have loads!

Greenrubber · 27/11/2021 23:31

I love seeing everyone's Xmas trees

lupad · 27/11/2021 23:39

some lovely trees on this thread. I hate the trend for the christmas trees with all the things sticking out & lots of ribbons like Colleen Rooney.

PennineWayinSlingbacks · 28/11/2021 00:19

Last years - always have a real tree. Went for coffee table size as we had a new puppy! Lots of stuff from over the years and we only have one set - red, gold, green basically. I bought a roll of wired ribbon from the garden centre and made the bows about 10 years ago!

sjxoxo · 28/11/2021 00:23

Love bows, I think shapes that contrast with baubles are a top tip- bit of variety is lovely. I saw a beautiful tree idea the other day where ribbon had been used in very long lengths to create like a diamond/jacquard effect all over the tree. Really original I thought! Definitely getting tree next weekend now 😂 I wasn’t even feeling that festive until I saw this thread ha ha x

One close friend she said. Tinsel? Tinsel is really out of fashion has been for years! I smiled and said well we like it. And then we had a nice chat about Xmas trees over the years.

Ah @CheeseMmmm, tinsel I think is officially Back In! After twenty-five years of white lights and no tinsel I switched back to coloured lights and tinsel last year; I think people are getting tired of the white lights look and are ready for a bit more retro and colour. I bought some rainbow tinsel last year and am just about to buy some more - absolutely massive multicoloured wodges of the stuff! I’m really looking forward to it!

CheeseMmmm · 28/11/2021 01:06

Fox-

Haha I sailed through those 25 years without realising, noticing. Totally oblivious! I saw the trees in shops over the years and noticed different things- colour scheme in single or limited shades, different approaches to lights, baubles minimalist or really fancy shapes. Ones with sand in, ones that were REALLY long or big. Ones that were ££££ with animals including feathers. Etc etc.

But I never even CLOCKED the fact that. Looking back on it. None have had tinsel for years!

It only came across my path when my friend told me about 5 years ago 😂😂😂

Obviously my thoughts were. Really? That's odd. And then. Tinsel is brilliant so meh.

I WAS surprised that she was surprised, having known me for decades, that she would even think to imagine that I would be a fashion follower... And in Xmas trees of all things!

Everyone should have a tree that suits them. It's in your house. It's not like you wear it to work! It's the one thing where obviously doing whatever makes you happy is the only thing to do Smile

kavalkada · 28/11/2021 06:15

I have the picture of this tree on my cell phone because I think it is perfect (for me). It is a picture from a magazine, and if I had money (and a big beautiful house) I would hire somebody to decorate mine to look just like that one.

kavalkada · 28/11/2021 06:17

Meantime, this is mine. Far from the perfect tree, but it makes me happy. And this year, I'm buying a nutcracker or two, to be closer to my perfect tree.

maofteens · 28/11/2021 07:33

If you mean by perfect those colour coordinated ones in magazines or celebrity's homes - forget it. So much nicer to have a mishmash of treasured ornaments collected over the years!
Our (real) tree is definitely everything but the kitchen sink type. I do not buy crappy ornaments though - all are beautiful. But they range from yarn dolls my parents picked up in Peru in the 70s to delicate German glass figures to miniature painted wooden toys. I even have a mini deck chair!
What I don't like are those sparsely decorated trees, as if the owner couldn't be bothered after the first box.

Cosmoz · 28/11/2021 08:20

I have absolutely no desire to have the perfect Christmas tree lol. I let my kids decorate it how they want and I don’t rearrange it to make it look insta worthy. As a child myself my dm has a thing for having the perfect Christmas tree. She’d allow me to put on some decorations but she looked rather anxious as I wasn’t placing them right. She’d then rearrange most of what I’d done when she thought I wasn’t looking. It drove me crazy so I swore to do things different with my own kids.

rrhuth · 28/11/2021 08:32

No, I don't get it either. Some of the fashion now seems to be for shopping mall trees, which seems unsuitable for the home. What is magical about Christmas is the fact it is a family time, not for pictures.

ShabsLovesTiff · 28/11/2021 08:58

I prefer fake pre lit trees that are black don’t like green my choice personally.

I have a new 6 foot black tree with warm lights £40 from wilko. I love tat and a non perfect tree not sure I know what perfect is tbh..

Wilko / Argos / matalan or if you have a one below shop bargains in there and loads I’ll show you the tree I have with one below decorations I have a rose gold and silver themed tree this year filled with unicorn and butterfly and star decorations think it looks quite decent myself.

Christmas should be all about fun and spending it with family and the people you love why don’t you all decorate the tree however you want to decorate it? Christmas music on and maybe a few cheeky drinks at same time then once it’s all done chill and watch a Christmas movie and get a takeaway or throw a pizza or something in oven!

I had a 6 foot pre lit multi coloured baubles on it and star on it at top decorated loads of cheap tinsels and decorations that didn’t break the bank I loved it but selling it now due to a different colour scheme in my house. Studio.com Or might be .co.uk not 100%

The range have loads of Christmas decorations love the range can get a bit pricey if you go overboard and get excited like I do in that place lol..

I’ll add this years from photos on here and do
Another post from last years..

So this year is the 6ft black tree Pre lit with warm lights £40 and the decorations from one below.

I like to think so. Mine is colour coordinated with the sitting room Blush. However I also have cats so it doesn't look that good for very longer - have learnt my lesson and am putting it up later this year.

I often admire other people's more eclectic trees but when I've tried to do them they look like crap so I stick to my slightly anal methods!
