I don't have a tree up yet, or outdoor lights, but probably will put them up next weekend.

People getting cross with others for doing the above or buying stuff for Christmas or making plans by stating the month we're currently in, though... I'm sure we are aware of the date. Just let them crack on.

Quite a few of our neighbours put them up in November. I quite like it seeing them.

I do agree though, if people want to our ghier decorations up in November, they should be left to. I don't get people getting annoyed by it either.

lololololollll · 21/11/2021 08:50

I'm sure it's light hearted, no one really gives a monkeys when others put their tree up. Probably no need to take offence

Winterfellismyhome · 21/11/2021 08:51

Some people like to feel superior by pretending they don't even think about Christmas until 12.59pm on Christmas Eve

Winterfellismyhome · 21/11/2021 08:51

MrsLargeEmbodied · 21/11/2021 08:52

they are not twats

PriamFarrl · 21/11/2021 08:52

Some houses near me have their trees up. It looks warm and cheery.

Some people do take it as some kind of personal affront and start complaining. People can decorate their own houses as they chose as far as I’m concerned.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 21/11/2021 08:54

i saw a tree in someone's bay window on @ 12th November

alienbaby · 21/11/2021 08:55

Chill

Newdad19 · 21/11/2021 08:55

The worst are those that come into the Christmas threads to say stuff like "of course so haven't started my shopping - IT IS ONLY NOVEMBER".

Why are you on a Christmas thread on the Christmas board?

Why do you care so much to have to take the time to post that it's only November. The only thing they are actually doing is trying to bring those down who do enjoy it and are starting early - so it says a lot about them.

starrynight21 · 21/11/2021 08:56

Everyone I know has their tree up and lights on already. The feeling seems to be that we've all had a shit time of it lately, so why not have some celebrations. I'm all for it .

Nitgel · 21/11/2021 08:56

It's pretty bonkers to put up dec's in November. They then pull them down on boxing day

LagerthaofKattegat · 21/11/2021 08:57

Also some people have to start Xmas shopping early… don’t have the funds to just buy it all in December.

My neighbors have lights up outside now, it’s so lovely especially as it’s dark so early now.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 21/11/2021 08:57

yes, i dont agree with pulling down the decorations on boxing day

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 21/11/2021 08:58

Yep It's very privileged to save all your Christmas shopping til December. I need to spread it across three pay packets so I start in October.
ABCeasyasdohrayme · 21/11/2021 08:58

I started Christmas shopping in March, started saving for this Xmas in January and my decs are going up today..... ITS NOVEMBER ... the season to be jolly 😂😂

Arethechildreninbedyet · 21/11/2021 08:58

I used to be a November snob, nowadays it’s the more the merrier.

Grew up in a very anti Christmas household and only since having my own have I realised I love it.

It’s stupid really, sticking lights and a tree up but it really is my favourite time of year. Makes me so appreciative of my life/family.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 21/11/2021 08:59

Also, preparing for Christmas is enjoyable! Why not start it when the clocks change and the weather gets cold and lights and decorations look lovely and cheering??

Bagelsandbrie · 21/11/2021 08:59

I’m one of the “it’s November” people.

I don’t really care what people do in the grand scheme of things but personally I think it makes the whole thing feel like it goes on forever, and there’s a lot of pressure to buy more and more and more and the kids all get super excited super early when there’s weeks to go! But you all crack on…..

KaptainKaveman · 21/11/2021 09:01

Such a lovely thread title. Really captures the spirit of Christmas.

I love Christmas. The past few years I've kidded myself I've been less interested but it always ramps up.

We went to town at Halloween this year as we started a precedent last year since the kids missed out on trick or treating due to covid. I said to my husband at that time that there's no way I could be bothered with Christmas this and we'd make it a lot more chilled... once Guy Fawkes was out of the way I suddenly switched into full blown Christmas mode. I don't mind, everything is bloody depressing at this time of year and at this moment in time so anything that brings joy is a good thing.

We bought 3 sets of outside fairy lights recently and I'm desperate to put them up, I've been told we need to wait a little longer... But DH has said we can do it anytime during the day (I'm going to try for tomorrow). I will TRY to hold off on the tree until the weekend after 1st Dec.

I did draw the line at getting asked by a family member at beg Oct on what to get my kids for Christmas. I did the whole it's October?! thing to them...

ParishSpinster · 21/11/2021 09:04

I love Christmas. Ita my favourite time of year. But I get overwhelmed seeing trees up and people wearing Christmas junoers in November. It just feels like people are extending the shopping and the consuming rather than enjoying twinkly lights and so on.

This is entirely my reaction. I don't want to control others. I just like having defined times to experience each season or event. Seeing Christmas stuff in the shops before Halloween (and Halloween stuff before october) feels like there's a never ending carousel of Things and Stuff and there isn't a break to just enjoy the norm.

Come 1st December i will be sewn into the Christmas clothes and have Christmas earrings on and watch Christmas films and singing the songs with the kids.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 21/11/2021 09:04

No, people who decorate early are twats because they spot normal people's Christmas by chucking out their decorations immediately after Christmas dinner because they are sick of the sight of them.

IncompleteSenten · 21/11/2021 09:05

It's really strange to me when people give a shit what others do when that thing does not affect them or anyone other than the people doing it in any way. Why do you care? How does it affect you? God, if someone wanted to put their decorations up in march I can't imagine giving a flying fuck.

Ours go up the beginning of December. The first. The first weekend. Whenever my husband can be arsed to crawl around the loft. 😁 If anyone in my life tried to say something about that I'd think they were ten pence short of a bus fare!

RancidOldHag · 21/11/2021 09:06

but probably will put them up next weekend

So, on Advent Sunday, the traditional start of the Christmas count down? Nowt wrong with that at all.

Are you making your Christmas pudding today, as it's Stir Up Sunday?
